Chapter 133: Protect what i have built
As the body of the demonized fell to the ground, Chloe finally stopped her attacks. She collapsed immediately. Noel caught her just before she hit the ground.
The inside of the classroom was littered with bodies of demonized—five of them. The signs of battle had disfigured the class.
Riven picked up Sofia and walked into the class. He laid Sofia on the ground carefully.
Suddenly, the wall of the class broke and a demonized rushed in. Larger and faster than the ones from the first Gate, Riven could already tell that the second Gate had been opened and the stronger demonized had come out.
Liana reacted first. She attacked the demonized with a slash. The demonized attacked back—its claws clashed with her sword, and she was pushed back a few meters.
It moved to attack again, but she rushed again. Her sword blazed with flames as she slashed downward. The demonized leaped backward to avoid the attack. Her sword hit the ground and it exploded into bits, leaving a deep slash mark in the floor.
Taking advantage of the opening, the demonized charged at her, covering the distance in a split second and going for the kill. She blocked the attack but got pushed back.
While she was destabilized, it launched at her again, but Mia intercepted and blocked the attack. Her feet skidded back. She taxied one foot up and planted it back into the ground with all her strength, forcing herself to a stop.
She immediately followed with a flurry of attacks, but it blocked all her attacks and then countered. Its claws moved so fast she could barely block them. She managed to block the counter.
Her arms went numb after blocking it. She could barely feel her fingers, yet she managed to keep standing. She pushed back on the demonized. It used its second arm to attack her from the side. A flash of lightning passed by, and the arm was knocked back with a deep cut on it.
"I’m tired of you freaks making everything hard here," Riven said. He ran up the side, leaped into the air, blue flames erupting around his blade. He compressed the flames down until they clung to the sword as he slashed down at the head of the demonized. It tried to react fast enough, but it couldn’t. Riven’s sword met its neck and cut right through it.
The head fell and rolled right to his feet. He looked at it with pure anger in his eyes. "The second gate is open. This is going very bad," he muttered.
He looked at Chloe and Sofia and the state they were in. He couldn’t leave them here, and he couldn’t allow Arin and Legion to keep doing whatever they wanted. He was in a serious dilemma on what to do now.
While he was lost in thought, the growls of demonized getting closer reached their ears. More were coming and they were near. With no other option, Riven made a decision.
"Liana, Mia, take the both of them back to the infirmary. Noel and I will push forward."
"What? You want the two of you to go alone? You are already wounded. If you push your body too much, you’ll die," Mia said.
"We can’t just leave the both of you here," Liana added.
"I promise I can handle myself. And I have Noel. Chloe and Sofia need to get treated now," Riven said.
Mia was reluctant to go. She looked at Riven, then shook her head. "I’m not leaving. I’m staying to fight," she said. The resolve in her eyes was clear.
Riven saw that she wasn’t budging, so he pointed his sword at her and spoke, "I’m sorry, Mia, but unless you are able to take me down now, then you’ll have to go," he said, his tone serious.
Mia bit into her lower lip. Even if she was strong and Riven was injured, she had seen enough to know that she would not be able to win in a fight now, especially if Riven went all out.
"I’ll go, but I’ll make sure I pay you back later," she said before carrying Chloe. Liana picked up Sofia. She stared at Riven for a few seconds before she ran out of the class, followed by Mia.
After they left, Riven also walked out of the class and faced the direction the demonized were coming from.
"Is there a reason you chose me? Mia is stronger," Noel said.
"You and I have worked together more. We understand each other better. We will need that understanding to get through the horde that’s coming," Riven said.
"So what’s the plan?" Noel asked.
Riven looked at him and smiled. "The plan? The plan is get through them," he said.
The demonized finally showed themselves. They charged through the hallway at top speed.
Riven and Noel watched them get closer and closer. Their hearts raced as they saw them approach. Riven took a deep breath to calm himself. "Inferno Domain," he called out, and his flaming domain spread out, gone. Intense heat already reached the demonized—but that wasn’t the end.
"Flame Wall," he called out at just the right moment, and the flame wall rose—larger and stronger than before because of the domain. It was almost twice the size and burned twice as hot.
The demonized smashed into the burning wall one by one. Their skins were charred. They retreated quickly to get away from the wall, but as some retreated, some came forward and slammed into the wall.
Behind the wall, Noel took a wide stance—his legs spread wide open, his body lowered, and his sword above his head. His stance greatly resembled that of a samurai.
His sword crackled with lightning. It kept generating more and more. The lightning struck the walls, floors, and ceiling, leaving deep holes and cracks in them.
He kept charging up the love lightning, pushing his body to the limit. He was sweating, but the sweat was immediately evaporated because of the heat from the lightning.
After pushing it to the extreme limit, he slowly turned his head to look at Riven. He nodded, and Riven immediately stopped the flame wall. The moment he did, Noel slashed with everything he had in him.
Boom
The sound of the lightning was like an explosion. The massive bolt of lightning shook the hallway, electrocuting the demonized all the way to the one at the back.
They screeched in immense pain as the lightning ripped through their bodies.
After his attack, Riven immediately followed. He took a deep breath, stretched out Twilight. The flames immediately turned to blue.
"I can do this. Body, don’t fail me now," he muttered and shot forward, attacking the stunned and electrocuted demonized.
He leapt into the air and slashed the head of the first off, and after that, what followed was him cutting through demonized at an amazing pace.
He knew the stun would not last long, so he had to push himself to go above and beyond. His insides screamed with pain. He coughed up a mouthful of blood, but he still pushed through it—cutting through them, killing one after the other.
And in less than a minute, he killed about fifteen demonized—their bodies littering the ground.
After he killed the last one, he fell forward, passing out. But just before he lost consciousness, he bit into his lips and woke himself up. He stretched out his leg, planting it into the ground and stopping his fall. He stabbed the sword into the ground for more balance.
He vomited more blood there, covering the ground. Noel rushed toward him. He stood beside him. "You are at your limit, Riven. We should stop," Noel said.
"Stop? I thought you wanted to be stronger together. Look at what we did together—we killed fifteen demonized without issues. A few days back, even one was an issue.
And do you know why we succeeded? Because we pushed our limits. I don’t plan on stopping here, not until we finally stop them. They won’t take away this academy from me, or all the new people I have met.
You told me, keys get stronger together—well, here we are. So let’s keep pushing," Riven said. He forced himself back on his feet. He staggered a little bit but managed to keep his balance at the end.
He started walking deeper into the academy, and Noel followed behind.
"I wanted to belong and be loved when I came to this world, only to discover that my character was not loved by anyone—hated by all.
Brick by brick, I built myself into something others admire. At first, I wanted to please others, but now it’s because I just wanna be better—for me, for family, and for those that are around me.
For years, my head was buried inside books, but for once in my life, I’ll lift my head and I’ll walk with my chest up. I’ll fight for what I’m building and what I have built."
