Chapter 125: Become number one

Chapter 125: Become number one

Lance charged toward the quasi demon. His sword glowed. He leaped into the air and slashed down. The quasi demon looked up, locking eyes with Lance. It flapped its wings and shot into the air, dodging his attack, and then swooped down to finish the attack.

Thwapp.

An arrow cut through the air, the tip glowing green. It stabbed right into the head of the quasi demon, knocking its head back, but the wound was only shallow. The arrow fell out and the wound healed, but she had bought Lance enough time to get away.

Robert ran toward the demon, his sword burned bright with flames. It tried to grab him, but he dodged to the side, and the attack missed by just an inch. He slashed the hand with all his strength, but the sword stuck in the thick skin of the quasi demon.

It punched Robert with its other hand right in the face, sending him flying through the air. He slammed into the ground, rolling for a few meters before stopping.

It didn’t wait for them to make the move again. It attacked the elf. The elf raised his hands and massive vines came out of the ground and wrapped around the quasi demon.

It held it for a few seconds before it broke through and attacked the boy. His sister immediately released three arrows at it. They all exploded on impact. The boy tried to retreat back now that his sister had created the chance for him.

But from the explosion, the quasi demon leaped out and attacked. He blocked but was thrown back so far he slammed on the fence.

His sister rushed to intercept. She stood between the quasi demon and her brother. She knocked three arrows at it in very quick succession and pulled out her sword. She charged in, covering half the distance before the arrows even hit.

It blocked the arrows with its wings, tanking the explosions, but when it opened the wings, her sword was already at its face. And not only her—Jack and Lance also flanked from two sides, catching the quasi demon in a pincer attack.

It looked as if they would win this if they landed these attacks, but it seemed they had forgotten one important thing—it had demonic energy.

A powerful blast of blood-red flames came from its body, so powerful it sent all of them flying. The demon flew a few feet into the air, looking at all of them lying on the ground. They were never a match for a quasi demon—especially not this one.

The demon was about to end them all, but out of nowhere, a heavily compressed blast of red flames blasted its wings, tearing through them badly.

Robert stood there with his sword stretched out. "Don’t underestimate the strength of a Royal," he said, gritting his teeth. Blood streamed from the side of his mouth. It was evident that his body was under immense weight as he used that attack.

The quasi demon charged at him, but he attacked again. The compressed flames tore through its side, leaving a large wound.

Robert coughed a mouthful of blood and collapsed to one knee, but he kept the sword pointing forward.

The quasi demon, seeing that Robert was able to seriously harm it, flapped its torn wings and flew into the air. It forced itself to stay stable and flew away, going deeper into the academy.

After it flew away, Robert vomited more blood. He forced himself to keep standing regardless.

They thought the worst had passed, but it had not. Louis and Freshman walked into the training yard after everything had passed. They saw all the first years that were there, and then he saw Lance.

They walked up to Lance and helped him up. "Seems you’re still alive. The entire academy is under attack now," Louis said.

"Yeah, I know that. We’re trying to stop it as well," Lance said.

"But that won’t work, especially with all the first years doing what they want. This is the opportunity for you to take control of your class finally.

Be the leader that you so dearly crave to be. Look around—all of them. If you gave them hope, they would all follow you.

So how about it? Follow our instructions, and we will help you take control of the class in this crisis," Louis said.

"This is not the plan we had. We can’t do that now. We need to fight the demonized and stop them from taking over the academy," Lance said.

"Exactly, and that’s what you’ll do—with our help. Only with our plan, you’ll be able to take control of the first year and fight bold.

You don’t even need to worry too much. The instructors, third years, and the fourth years will jump in the fight soon and the academy will be saved. What you just have to do is make the best of it—become number one," Louis said.

Lance’s eyes lit up when he heard "become number one." He stared at all the students, some who had started waking up. He could actually take control of it all and take the reins from Riven. Become the hero. Save them all like he was destined to do.

"Hey, Lance, we have to go and help Riven." Jack rushed toward Lance. He paused when he saw the two second years standing with him.

"What’s going on, Lance?" Jack asked.

Louis smiled and leaned into Lance. "For you to take control of the first years, you also have to remove those that might be a threat and those that believe your enemy is the true leader. Don’t you think so?" he asked. At this point, Lance had fully welcomed the delusion of being number one by all means, so what Louis said made all the sense in the world.

"That’s true. I’ll have to take them out," he said and suddenly charged at Jack.

’His mind is weak.’ What a pathetic hero, Louis thought.
