An Extra's POV: My Three Fiancees Hate Me -
Chapter 111: Up to you
Chapter 111: Up to you
The incident of the dungeon was kept a secret by all of them there; they understood what Lance stood to lose if this was leaked.
Everyone returned back to the academy after that. They had their fill of adventuring, and they all decided to spend the time in the academy practicing their spirit zone or something else.
Riven had been locked inside his room for days, trying to get in contact with the spirit zone and also trying to talk to Twilight, but no matter how hard he attempted to contact the spirit, it didn’t work.
He had given up on the sword; he figured maybe one seal was not enough for him to get any useful information from the sword.
The issue was that he didn’t even know how he unsealed the sword in the first place, so he didn’t know how to go forward with the sword. He decided that the next time he had the chance, he would head to Ribest and meet Black to ask him about the sword.
As for his spirit zone, it had taken him well over four days of study and practice to finally get in contact with it. He had gone so many sleepless nights that there were bags under his eyes.
[...]
Inside his room, Riven sat cross-legged, his eyes shut tight. He took a deep breath and then let it out. When he was fully relaxed, he attempted entering his spirit being again.
His mind was as calm as it could get—it was the first stage to entering the spirit zone, like the book said.
After a few seconds, he began feeling the range of his mana take shape. This was the spirit zone. It spread out, covering the entire room, going over twenty meters wide.
’Yes, I’ve finally reached the second stage, stabilizing it,’ Riven thought. He tried his best to keep his control. His head started aching from immense pain, but he didn’t give up there. He kept pushing through the pain until finally, the pain stopped.
When the pain stopped, the zone stabilized. He could sense everything that was inside that twenty meters. He could sense everything inside—it felt like he had some form of simple omniscient view.
’I’m sure some of my skills have gone beyond twenty meters when I use them. There’s no way this is the full length of my spirit zone,’ Riven thought to himself.
He decided to try to go farther—something that was extremely reckless—but he needed to know where his zone stopped. He pushed the boundaries. The pain returned. He bit his lower lip, trying to fight the pain.
It lasted for one full minute, and finally, he heard a click in his mind. What followed was a massive expansion of his spirit zone. It spread out rapidly, not stopping until it got to a hundred meters.
’Whoa, this is massive,’ he couldn’t help but say. He could sense everything that moved, every person in their rooms. He could sense it all.
But that feeling was short-lived, as what followed was like a hammer slamming into his guts and head. The pain washed over him like a flood. He vomited on his own floor and passed out right there.
......
"Hey, hey, wake up. Hey."
Riven heard a voice calling out to him. His eyes flicked open, and he saw Noel kneeling beside him.
"You have been passing out a lot these past few days," Noel said. He helped Riven sit up slowly.
"How did you get in?" Riven asked. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hands, trying to clear them.
"You left the door unlocked, but that’s beside the point. What happened here?" Noel asked.
"Uhm, I was practicing my spirit zone, I think," Riven explained.
"And that made you pass out? You overdid it, right?" Noel asked.
"No, not really. I made contact with my spirit zone and fully established it, but then the pain came after and knocked me out," Riven explained.
"Wait, you’re already fully seeing yours?" Noel asked in shock.
"Yeah, is there something wrong with that?" Riven asked.
"No, no, nothing is wrong. Go wash up, I’ll help you clean whatever it is you did to the floor," Noel said while glancing at the essence on the floor.
He helped Riven up, and Riven went toward the bathroom while Noel cleaned the ground with a wet rag.
’He has already established the spirit zone? I only managed to connect with it slightly yesterday. It will take me at least two or three more days before I can fully see my spirit zone.
Riven is a genius for sure, but he works hard to match his talent. I wish I could be like him,’ Noel thought.
He cleaned up the floor and sat down on one of the chairs, waiting for Riven to come back. A few minutes later, Riven returned. He sat down near Noel, stretched his body on the chair, and reclined. He was in a full white bathrobe.
"You’re pushing yourself pretty hard, bro," Noel said.
"You want to say I should stop?" Riven asked.
"No, not at all. I wish I could push forward like you. In fact, I’ll push forward like you. Being rank five and you being rank one showed me the gap between us.
I need to push harder in order to catch up. In the dungeon a few days ago, you showed even more growth, and I began to question if I would ever be able to actually catch up," Noel said, his head hanging low as he spoke.
’I can’t allow myself to be the reason the great battle mage is never born. Noel has so much potential,’ Riven thought.
"Noel, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but please listen. Your way of fighting is something that only you have created over the years.
What we had at the family was what all nobles had—you didn’t have any special thing that could make you unique or define your technique.
Your sword style, they are all from the basics that Father provided for you. Your lightning, though powerful, still has a lot of room for growth.
When you stand against people like Lance, Robert, and Mia, that little difference will start to stand out because they have had special training all their life.
Their abilities have been sculpted into a unique form that fits them, and that gives them the edge over normal nobles. I’m lucky, and I managed to get ahead a little.
But that means nothing, Noel. Your talent is real and terrifying. When I first saw you use your lightning, I knew.
What I’m saying is that you need to ditch the training of your childhood and start crafting your own style—something that is entirely unique to you.
Mister Quin has offered to train us, and I feel this will be the best time for you to actually create that style," Riven said. He leaned into the chair more and stretched out his body even more.
"All in all, I know you aren’t a wimp. I’m going to get ahead with Quin’s training if you don’t get your head straight and come at least with all your strength," Riven said.
Noel chuckled when he heard that. He looked up at the ceiling. "In your dreams, bro. I’m not letting my junior brother show me up more than you already have," Noel said.
They spent time together talking and talking, and their talking soon spiraled into Noel choking Riven into submission.
[......]
The next day, classes finally resumed, and everyone headed to their classes early. Riven made it to class as well. He was about to enter when he saw Liana standing outside the class, her arms folded and her back leaning against the wall.
He hadn’t seen her since the dungeon, but that was normal, seeing that they didn’t talk to each other much.
He walked toward the door without talking to her, but as he was about to enter, she stretched out her hand and stopped him.
"Good morning," she said in a cold, detached voice. She refused to look at him; her eyes were straight ahead.
"Yeah, good morning," he responded.
"I’ve been thinking about how to say this for days now," she said. Her face suddenly flushed with embarrassment.
’Huh? She isn’t going to propose to me, right? Wait, we are already engaged, but that’s beside the point.’
"Wh-what is it?" he asked.
"That day in the dungeon, if it hadn’t been for you, I would have died there. I’m not an easy person to get along with, but I would be stupid not to acknowledge the fact that you saved me, no matter how much I don’t want to.
I hated you since I met you because you were cocky and bratty, talking to the daughter of a Duke and telling her you could change her mind. I felt you were all talk and really nice essence.
But time without number, you have shown otherwise, so I have to acknowledge that," she said and then pushed herself off the wall.
"I’m not saying I accept you, but I at least acknowledge your strength. Wherever this goes from here will now be up to you," she said and walked into the class without looking back.
