Chapter 110: Waking up

Riven pushed forward again, driving his already crumbling body to the ground. Lance attacked again, wanting to end this all, but a massive ice wall blocked the sword.

Chloe gave Riven the same look she had given him during the exam after she assisted him. He nodded back at her and kept pushing.

Lance kept trying to attack, but everyone, in their own way, managed to distract him enough for Riven to finally get close. Riven leaped into the air, the flame around his sword increased, burning bright.

He swung with all his strength. The twilight cut through Amaterasu, the blade kept cutting and cutting, reaching the depths of it. Then, when it was about to reach Lance, Riven turned the sword to the side, using the broad side to slam Lance across the head.

The impact of the attack knocked Lance out instantly, and finally, the Amaterasu vanished, leaving an unconscious Lance there.

Riven looked at Lance, a small smile formed on his face before he fell forward. Mia rushed over and caught him before he hit the ground, completely disregarding the pain in her own body. Riven passed out in her arms.

[.....]

Riven’s eyes fluttered open. The first thing his eyes saw when he woke up was Mia’s face looking down at him. There was a slight look of care and concern in her eyes, but it vanished instantly the moment she saw his eyes open.

"You are finally awake," she said. Riven immediately tried to get up from her legs, but she pushed him back down. "Rest up, you tasked your body too much," she said.

’No no no no, I don’t need to rest, I need to get away from you, this sort of stimulation when I just woke up is definitely not good for my health,’ Riven thought. He tried not to look her in the face.

"How’s everyone?" he asked.

"They are here. We decided to stay in the dungeon till the both of you woke up. We used healing potions on you, so all your injuries should be gone now," Mia explained.

"What about Lance?" he asked. Her face turned sour the moment he asked that. "He is still unconscious," she said in a dismissive tone.

Riven couldn’t blame her. Lance had put them through a lot, almost killing all of them, and though it was not his fault because of the fog, he still ran into the fog even when they tried to stop him.

"You don’t seem to like Lance very much," Riven said.

"He is blessed by the goddess Lumis. He is supposed to be the one to save us, or so they said. He was given the power to rise, the talent.

I respect the strong, but for those that haven’t seen the real struggles that come with power, they tend to misuse it. At first, I believed he was someone that should be respected, as the goddess couldn’t make a mistake.

But seeing the way he acts, I find that hard to believe—frolicking around with girls in the academy, being too proud, thinking he is above everyone. If he wasn’t so obnoxious and stubborn, he wouldn’t have run into the fog."

’Sheeesh, that’s a lot to deduce from knowing someone for a few days, but Mia is observant. She doesn’t make baseless assumptions.

In the story, Lance was a hard worker even though he loved women and was proud, but since we came into the academy, Lance seems to be distracted by something. What could it be?’ Riven thought.

"Hey, aren’t you arrogant and always with an ’above it all’ character?" Riven asked, and she responded by punching his head.

"Ouch!" he cried in pain.

"Hey, Lance is waking up," Noel called out. Mia immediately helped Riven to his feet. She tried to help him walk, but he refused.

"I can walk, Mia," he said with a smile, but she didn’t let go of him. She forcefully helped him over to where Lance was.

Robert, Noel, and Liana stood near Lance with their swords extended. Even Chloe took out her magical staff and pointed it at him.

Lance finally woke up, and the first thing he saw was swords and a staff near his neck. He immediately tried to fight.

"If you make any rash movements, I’ll cut you down, Lance," Robert said, and from the look on his face, he wasn’t joking. They had all had enough.

Lance heard Robert’s voice and immediately looked up. "Prince, you are alive? Thank goodness, I thought the same thing just happened to Lia—" He laid eyes on Liana as he spoke, and then he froze.

"Li-Liana?" The shock in his voice was loud. "You, you died," he said in disbelief.

"I almost did, thanks to you," she responded coldly.

"Me? What are you talking about?" he asked.

Robert decided to tell Lance everything that happened—the entire situation that he had put them through. His eyes widened as he heard every sentence.

What stung the most was the fact that the person who stopped him was Riven.

"I can’t believe I attacked all of you," he said, bowing his head.

"To get angry at you would be pointless. It wasn’t your fault," Noel said.

"It was his fault," Robert interjected. "I’ve warned you before, Lance—your impulsive behavior would cause a lot of issues. I’ve been warning you for years now, even before you fully got your blessing. I know you.

If you had listened when we tried to stop you, or for goodness’ sake, thought before you acted, this whole situation would have been avoided," Robert said, genuinely pissed at Lance.

’Who does this kid think he is talking to? Is he calling me dumb? A mere fourteen-year-old kid. Shit.

I can’t believe I fucked up this bad. If word of this got out, my credibility as the hero would plummet down to the mud. Shit, shit, shit—and to have Riven of all people be the one to stop me.

I used all my strength, yet I was unable to defeat him. FUCK!’
