Chapter 107: Hallucination
Chapter 107: Hallucination
They killed the Lizardmen very quickly, and the one that was left was the one with the bloodlust. It stood there, undisturbed by the fact that it had lost several brethren.
Its sharp eyes closed into slits, and suddenly it moved—its speed so fast it vanished in a second. Everyone was shocked by the speed, but they were alert.
It seemed like the monster had found the weak link in their group and attacked Chloe. It had watched the entire battle with the other monsters and knew she was a mage.
Her way of attacking was at range. She couldn’t attack close-range, so she was the best target if it was able to get close to her.
’This monster, did it stand back while we fought so that it could learn about our skills?’ Riven thought, his gaze locked on the monster that was about to reach Chloe.
He immediately made the decision to throw his sword at it, but in the next moment, Chloe pulled off a move no one had expected.
Her arm got coated with ice, she swung it like a blade, and the ice shot out like bullets, stabbing into the monster’s chest.
It let out a roar of pain, retreating a few steps back and giving Robert enough time to get between the monster and his sister.
"Are you fine?" Robert asked her while his back faced her. He gripped his sword tightly.
"I’m fine," she responded in her usual timid tone. After making sure that she was fine, he attacked the monster with a full-power diagonal slash.
The monster saw the attack and dodged it. The sword missed its body by an inch. It retreated several steps away and then opened its mouth—a strange black fog poured out.
Robert retreated immediately when he saw the fog. He didn’t know what it was, but he knew he couldn’t inhale it carelessly.
The monster continued pouring out more fog, and it was beginning to spread.
"We have to stop it," Mia said. Robert turned around and looked at Chloe. "Attack it," he said. She nodded and made a massive ice lance, chanting her spell quietly.
She fired the lance at the monster, and it immediately tried to dodge, but the lance suddenly shattered into smaller ice fragments, many of which stabbed into its body and slammed it into a wall.
Lance took that opportunity and charged in to finish off the kill.
"Lance, no!" Liana yelled.
"The fog!" Robert yelled as well, but Lance didn’t stop. He felt he would be able to move fast enough, pass through the fog, kill the monster, and that would be all.
But immediately he passed through the fog, a little of it entered his nose—and that was all it took. Right before his eyes, the monster vanished.
He looked around to find it, but instead of one monster, he saw six of them standing there—six Lizardmen with very thick bloodlust.
He didn’t see his classmates. In rage, he pointed at one of the monsters. "What did you do to them?" he asked.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Liana asked as Lance pointed at her, but all that Lance heard was, "Rooaaaar!"—a roar of defiance and threat.
"You don’t want to tell me? I’ll make sure I rip you into pieces!" Lance roared and charged at Liana. Moving at full speed, he slashed downward. She blocked his sword but was immediately pushed back because of his strength.
Yet he didn’t stop. He was relentless. He attacked again, but this time Riven stopped it.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Riven asked.
"Roooaaaaar," was all Lance heard. In rage, he tried to push the Lizardman back but couldn’t.
Riven pushed Lance back, then attacked again, forcing Lance to block and retreat a few steps.
"Something is wrong with him," Robert said.
Noel looked at the fog. Lance started acting different when the fog got into him.
"The fog, it did something to him," Noel said.
Though it should have been obvious, they didn’t think about it. And now that Noel pointed it out, it made sense.
"Take down the monster, and the fog might go away," Noel said.
Robert tried to head towards the monster, but Lance intercepted him. "Stop roaring, all of you, and die already!" Lance yelled and attacked Robert.
Robert blocked the attack and was immediately locked in a stalemate. Seeing this, Noel knew he had to act. He charged at the monster.
He watched the fog closely, and when he was close enough, he charged his sword with lightning. Disregarding Quin’s instructions, he threw the blade. It traveled extremely fast and stabbed right through the monster’s head, killing it.
The monster decomposed and left a red crystal behind. The fog also vanished, but Lance was still under the hallucination.
He noticed one of the Lizardmen behind him. He turned his neck around and saw the Lizardman standing next to the corpse of Liana, with a deep wound in her head.
Rage suddenly exploded in his heart. He didn’t care about what Quin had told them anymore. He unleashed his blessing—a bright light exploded from his body, pushing all of them back, slamming them into the wall.
"You bloody monsters! How dare you? How dare you take her away?! I’LL MAKE SURE I KILL ALL OF YOU!" he roared. His sword glowed with holy light.
The six of them all struggled to get back on their feet. They stared at Lance, who stood at the center, his sword glowing—and so were his eyes.
"Lance, snap out of it, or I’ll drag you to my father," Robert said. He stood up straight and got into his fighting stance.
Lance turned to look at the monster that had just roared. He got ready to take it down.
’Lance doesn’t get a skill for blocking out mental attacks until after the first main event of the book. He couldn’t resist the fog at all,’ Riven thought while watching Lance.
