Chapter 72: Damien being a father

Yanking his hands away, Damien faced the little girl, "You have to promise not to cry again. Weak girls die easily," he said, scaring the little girl.

"I won’t cry again," the little girl promised with newfound determination, and she entwined her hands with Damien’s own.

"I want Alpha to play with us," she urged, tugging at his hand and dragging him to where the rest of her friends were.

Damien looked at Enoch, hoping for a way out with Enoch’s help, but Enoch just smiled at him and said, "You can do it," taunting him.

Sarah was so excited that she vowed to send the little girl’s family some gifts for helping improve her plans. Who knew it would be this easy? She had nothing to worry about.

Damien figured it was better to waste a little time with the kids as it seemed like the only way to make them think he didn’t hate them, so he played along with them.

He tried to catch butterflies with the sweeping net, but each time, the butterflies eluded him, leaving him frustrated and angry because he couldn’t believe there was something he wasn’t good at.

"This is so fun to watch. Dave would have loved this!" Enoch brought out his phone and recorded Damien’s struggling, planning to show Dave later. It had been a while since Dave had something to tease Damien about, and it was always fun when they playfully fought.

However, Enoch’s thoughts were interrupted by worries about Scarlet. Since she fell ill, he couldn’t stop thinking about what could happen to her. Feeling her pulse the other night, it seemed like she was dealing with an illness. What was Scarlet hiding?

The noises from the garden were too loud, and Aurora found it hard to divert her thoughts. She couldn’t help but want to see what Damien and Sarah were doing with the kids that made them happy.

’I am only taking a look. No feelings involved,’ she convinced herself, and walked up to the window to gaze at them.

She smiled seeing Damien’s state. He looked stressed and frustrated, and she never knew Damien was capable of making children laugh.

They looked happy and satisfied to be in his presence. It made her wonder if the child she would conceive would have a good father. If Damien was a good father to her child, then maybe the child wouldn’t need to know about his mother.

She found herself smiling as she watched Damien struggle with the kids.

"Alpha is so bad at catching butterflies," one of the kids said, rolling his eyes in boredom, which irritated Damien.

"Says who?" He didn’t like being looked down upon, especially not by little kids.

"Luna is perfect at it, let her train you," the little girl from earlier said, pushing Sarah closer to Damien.

"I can do it on my own," Damien rejected the offer stubbornly and continued swinging the sweeping net.

"Alpha, don’t be shy. Sometimes receiving help doesn’t make you look weak," a little boy from the group said, and Damien felt the words hit his heart.

Being advised by a child felt different, and he found meaning in the kid’s words. All his life, he had been so focused on work that he never bothered taking a break.

He was the workaholic type and never derived joy from other things.

"Listen to them if you want to leave here soon," Sarah interjected, seeing how the little boy’s words affected Damien.

Damien grew speechless for the first time, and he nodded his head.

Sarah was filled with so much joy that she couldn’t wait to tell her mother about what happened today. She was finally getting a chance with Damien.

Moving closer to him, she stood beside him and started directing him on how to swing the sweeping net. Her hands touched his at intervals to explain her point.

Aurora smiled sadly, she knew they were perfect for each other. Damien was already allured by her. It was only a matter of time before he gave in and married her.

What was she even doing? Damien could never fit someone like her. She was a rejected Luna with no one in the world. She had no place in the world, and she should only focus on avenging her parents’ death.

Slumping to the ground, Aurora brought her knees to her chest and dropped her head on them.

Scarlet walked into her room and sighed when she saw the state Aurora was in. Why was Aurora sad again?

"Aurora," Scarlet called out her name and sat beside her on the floor.

"Hey," raising her head, Aurora acknowledged Scarlet’s presence and smiled at her.

"Should we just run away?" Scarlet suggested, facing Aurora with a serious look.

"Can we?" Aurora asked, thinking of a way to escape. It was literally impossible to escape, especially since they were both maids in the Alpha’s mansion.

Sighing, Scarlet rested her head on Aurora’s shoulder and said, "I am tired of staying in this mansion."

Patting her head, Aurora confessed, "Me too!"

Sometimes, things would go smoothly, and sometimes it would feel like she was being suffocated. She didn’t know how to tell Scarlet she was wavering in her feelings about Damien.

She knew she shouldn’t be thinking about being with him, but the last days with him made her see life in a new perspective. She had decided to end her life after avenging her parents’ death.

Suddenly, she was starting to think life could be enjoyable if she decided to forget her past and move on. Would her parents ever forgive her for moving on? Wouldn’t it be selfish of her to move on when they sacrificed their lives for her?

"Have you had sex with Damien yet?" Scarlet asked.

"Yes," Aurora, who was still lost in thought, absentmindedly replied and widened her eyes when she realized what she had just said.

"Really?" Scarlet asked, bewildered.

"I mean no, no!" She quickly corrected herself, but it was too late as Scarlet had already stood up and covered her mouth in shock.
