Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 71: Butterflies
Chapter 71: Butterflies
Back at Damien’s pack, the mansion bustled with activity as more people moved in to assist and guide the future Luna. Everyone was eager to be in the good graces of the future Luna, Sarah, including the maids and other pack members who recently arrived.
Sarah was delighted with all the attention she received. The maids and pack members showered her with praise, and for a while, she forgot her mission to allure Damien and simply enjoyed the adoration.
Guests, both children and adults, came to visit her, eager to meet the future Luna.
"Isn’t she beautiful?" A little girl exclaimed among the kids Sarah was playing with in the garden, causing her to blush. The compliment sparked an idea in Sarah’s mind, perhaps if she gained the pack members’ love, it could change Damien’s perspective of her.
"Luna, I want to catch a butterfly too!" A little boy ran toward her, extending his hand to receive the sweeping net from Sarah.
"Alright, let me help you first," Sarah happily agreed, lifting the boy before handing him the net.
She continued to play with the kids, even though she grew tired. However, she maintained the act, wanting to keep up appearances for the sake of her plan.
Finally, unable to hold her fatigue any longer, Sarah took a seat on the bench in the garden and wiped off her sweat.
"Luna, come!" Another little kid called her to play, but as she was about to decline the offer, she saw Damien and his beta heading their way.
Quickly putting her plan into action, she stood up and replied, "On my way, let’s catch more butterflies."
She smiled brightly, making sure her voice was loud enough to catch Damien’s attention. This plan seemed better than seducing or chasing after him.
"Ugh, Alpha!" A little girl exclaimed and ran to meet him. Pouting her lips, she asked, "Are you here to take Luna away?"
Damien was never a fan of children, so he ignored her and walked past. However, he stopped when he heard her cries, growing irritated at why she started whining when he hadn’t done anything. Children could be dramatic!
Pretending to be a good Luna, Sarah ran to the little girl and comforted her, "Don’t cry, you will ruin your pretty face." Patting her back, she hugged the girl, but her words didn’t seem to soothe her, making Sarah annoyed.
Sarah tried to keep her annoyance in check and continued to pat the little girl’s back.
"Alpha hates me!" The girl’s statement made Damien finally turn his back. Sarah met his gaze, inwardly smiling at how affected he seemed by a little girl’s cry.
"Alpha doesn’t hate you, he’s just busy," Sarah defended Damien, trying to convince the girl to stop crying.
However, the little girl didn’t stop crying, and Sarah grew worried. The girl needed to stop crying for Damien to see her as a good Luna, but she seemed determined to ruin things for Sarah.
"I think she wants you to beg her," Enoch hinted, nudging Damien to approach the girl. Enoch loved children, and though he wasn’t very familiar with them, he knew why the little girl wouldn’t stop crying.
"When did you become an expert on children?" Damien asked annoyedly, glaring at the little girl. He couldn’t imagine being a father, as he had no desire to deal with such pathetic little things. Thankfully, he had Theresa to train any heir he might produce with Aurora.
"Just do it, comforting kids is easy," Enoch encouraged, giving Damien a little push.
Sighing, Damien reluctantly approached the little girl and knelt down to her and Sarah’s height. Holding her wrist, he drew her closer to him and said, "Sorry."
Sarah couldn’t help but snort, amused by Damien’s unenthusiastic apology. Was he apologizing to a business partner? Why did he sound so disinterested?
Realizing Sarah’s amusement, Damien glared at her, causing her to clear her throat and avert her gaze.
Frustrated that the little girl still didn’t stop crying, Damien faced Enoch, as if blaming him for the stupid suggestion that didn’t work.
Enoch shook his head at the helpless Alpha and averted his gaze, leaving Damien to handle the situation alone.
Facing the little girl, Damien abruptly held both of her hands and made her stare directly into his eyes.
"Don’t you want to have a boyfriend like me?" He asked, shocking Sarah and Enoch. What was he saying to a little kid? Was he out of his mind?
Surprisingly, the little girl stopped crying and replied, "I want to have a handsome boyfriend like Alpha." Her face lit up, and she started giggling, which surprised Sarah. Wasn’t she upset because Damien had ignored her? Children were so easy to deceive, especially the younger ones.
"I don’t date girls who love crying. I prefer strong and independent girls," Damien replied, patting her head.
The little girl smiled, showing her incomplete teeth to Damien. He found her strangely amusing, just like a particular lady he knew.
"I won’t cry again," the little girl promised, wiping her face, her mood already back to normal.
"Good girl," Damien praised her.
"But Alpha hates me," the girl suddenly remembered something and pouted.
"Alpha does not hate you. Alpha is just very busy," Damien corrected her, and her face lit up again. He chuckled at how easily she believed his words. Children weren’t so bad after all.
"Ohh, Luna also said so. Luna is such a good wife," the little girl said, turning to face Sarah.
Taking Sarah’s hand, she then took Damien’s hand and joined them together.
At that moment, a stressed gaze spotted Sarah and Damien holding hands with the little girl, and she strangely felt a pang of sadness. She scolded herself for such foolish thoughts and walked away from the window to take her seat.
Damien said he wasn’t going to marry, but if their relationship improved, she would be discarded, so she had to focus on her mission and leave the pack. Damien could marry whoever he wanted, she didn’t care.
Possibly, if Damien finally decides to marry Sarah before she gets pregnant, she might be able to terminate the contract.
Blushing, Sarah watched her hand entwined with Damien’s and couldn’t help but think about how perfect they would be together.
