Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 31: Rome
Chapter 31: Rome
The concert was yet to commence, with people socializing and exchanging pleasantries, both standing and sitting. Damien and Aurora secured seats in the front row reserved for VIPs.
Aurora couldn’t help but be impressed by Damien’s prominent position. Given his workaholic nature, it was expected that he had strong connections in society. The show began shortly after, featuring ten girls in elegantly styled leotards and tutus. The lead dancer stood out in a purple ensemble, while the rest wore white attire.
The spotlight always fell on the princess-like character in such performances. Aurora was familiar with the song playing; it was the famous "Swan Lake," with music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Aurora nodded along to the enchanting melody, finding it quite soothing. It reminded her of her childhood when her parents used to dress her up as a ballerina and create a stage for her to dance on.
The memories stirred up emotions, and before she knew it, tears welled up in her eyes. Damien glanced at her and shook his head, unable to comprehend what could be so emotional about a show like this. If it hadn’t been work-related, he wouldn’t have wasted his precious time at this boring concert.
He reached into his inner suit pocket, intending to offer her a handkerchief, but a kind gentleman sitting beside Aurora had already provided one. Feeling embarrassed, Damien quickly returned the handkerchief to his pocket and cleared his throat.
"I am sorry for crying," Aurora apologized, thinking he was annoyed by her display of emotions. Damien contemplated explaining, but he waved it off, considering it unimportant.
Suddenly, the female lead gracefully waltzed over to Damien’s seat and tossed a red rose at him. In ballet, if the princess among the ballerinas threw a red rose at a man, it symbolized her choosing him as her knight.
Aurora, having only witnessed such gestures in shows, widened her eyes, eagerly waiting for Damien’s reaction.
However, the stoic man remained motionless, clutching onto the rose. Observing the princess’s evident embarrassment, Aurora couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. Internally, she questioned, ’Why did you choose him?’ and shook her head in disappointment at Damien.
As the show came to an end, Aurora felt an overwhelming sense of joy. She wanted to express her gratitude to Damien for bringing her along, but he was continuously interrupted by people greeting him, preventing her from doing so. Eventually, she gave up and resolved to thank him on their way back home.
"Dami! I am not sure what brought you here, but I am thrilled," the princess from earlier rushed toward Damien, wearing a seductive smile. She had changed into an off-shoulder dress with a high side slit.
Damien wanted to scoff at how good she was with words. He came here after she threatened to withdraw her shares from a close partner’s company, which put him at an edge.
Aurora couldn’t help but wonder if the princess had dressed that way for Damien. Well, she thought, sorry to disappoint, but this man has no interest in women.
The princess gazed at Aurora, raising an eyebrow questioningly. Understanding her unspoken inquiry, Aurora replied, "I understand. I will find myself a drink," and excused herself.
Lost in her thoughts about what they might be discussing, Aurora accidentally bumped into a waiter carrying a tray, causing some wine to spill on her.
"Oh my, I am so sorry, miss," the waiter quickly knelt down to apologize, realizing the significance of the elegant gown.
Aurora knew she might face consequences for staining a guest’s dress but reassured the waiter, saying, "Don’t worry, I am not a spoiled brat. It was my fault for bumping into you. You can go." Her reassuring words prompted the waiter to bow in gratitude and hastily depart from Aurora’s sight.
"It’s you again," the man who had previously offered her a handkerchief remarked, extending it toward her once more. It was the same handkerchief she had used earlier but hadn’t washed and returned.
"Thank you," Aurora said, using it to blot the wine stains around her waist. Fortunately, the wine hadn’t caused any discoloration on her blue gown, making it easier to clean.
Unsure how to return the handkerchief a second time, she laughed nervously and asked, "What should we do with this?"
"Oh, keep it," he replied.
"Thanks for offering up your handkerchief earlier, I am not always emotional, it just came." She explained hoping he didn’t see as a weak type. But why did she care? Maybe it was because of what happened five years ago, she never wanted to be seen as weak again.
"It’s alright, by the way my name is Rome," Rome gestured.
"Aurora," she replied and smiled.
"Was that your brother from earlier?" he inquired, starting a conversation to ease the awkwardness.
"No... Well, yes, he’s my brother. Quite a dull man," she responded, hoping to avoid sounding peculiar by not revealing her true relationship with Damien.
"Yeah, he is. I am guessing he doesn’t have a girlfriend," Rome continued his line of questioning.
"No, he’s completely single," Aurora answered, rolling her eyes and picking up a glass of wine to drink.
"So, are you single too?" Caught off guard by the unexpected question, Aurora choked on her drink and spat out what she had just swallowed. She should have known the conversation was heading in that direction, especially after his interest in her new brother, Damien.
She was technically not single but essentially single, answering this question wasn’t easy.
"I suppose I am not single," she blurted out her thoughts and immediately covered her mouth, realizing her slip. Taking it as a joke, Rome laughed, and Aurora joined him, relieved to diffuse the tension.
Frantically searching for an excuse to escape his presence, Aurora realized that Damien was the only person she knew at the concert. What excuse could she come up with to leave?
"If you don’t mind, can I have your number?" Rome asked, pulling out his phone to receive her contact information.
Aurora didn’t own a phone, let alone have a number. This conversation was not going well. Why couldn’t he ask her questions she could answer, like about the ballet they had just watched?
"What did I tell you about talking to strangers?"
