Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 30: A new look
Chapter 30: A new look
Aurora understood the underlying meaning of his comment about a ’particular friend’ and decided to play along.
"Actually, I was hoping to meet more than just a friend today. Thank you for your concern, Alpha," she responded politely, but he detected the mockery in her words. If he was bad then she was a badass, she enjoyed being a breeder, it was refreshing.
"At this rate, only Selena knows what will happen next. Everyone keeps changing," Dave blurted out, disappointed with how things were unfolding. First, it was his childhood stalker, and now it was the chef in their mansion.
"You were always so eager to get her off your back. Why does it sound like you are not happy about it?" Enoch couldn’t resist taunting Dave, as was his usual nature.
"I have no idea what you mean, nosy Beta Enoch," Dave retorted quickly and began eating.
Enoch chuckled, amused by Dave’s misery over the recent changes. You never truly appreciate what you have until you lose it, a saying that holds some truth.
"Alpha, you have yet to introduce her to us," one of the Elders seated at the table inquired.
Damien knew they were curious to know what was going on, but he didn’t feel compelled to share.
"I suddenly became interested in a woman, so I decided to have one," his response was dry, leaving the Elders uncertain of how to reply. Was he genuinely interested in a woman, or was this all a ploy to avoid getting married?
Dave suddenly burst into laughter, irking Damien.
"What a lame lie. You have no room for desire in your heart. Stop dreaming," Dave tutted and continued eating. Aurora wanted to say, ’he does, but he’s a bit uptight,’ but she enjoyed watching Damien grow increasingly infuriated, so she observed the situation unfold.
"So, what is your relationship with her?" The Elders didn’t seem convinced and pressed for more information. Aurora felt uneasy being referred to as if she weren’t present in the dining room with them.
"Like I said..." Damien trailed off and glanced at Aurora. She met his gaze, wondering if he wanted her to offer her opinion or speak up.
"She’s my plaything." Aurora felt her heart stab at being labeled as a plaything. They held each other’s gaze, words unspoken yet understood, but neither of them moved to utter them.
She searched his eyes for an apology, but he didn’t appear remorseful for calling her a plaything. Averting her gaze, she forced herself to eat before she lost her composure.
Damien saw the pain in her eyes, but what else was she to him, apart from a plaything? Why did she look hurt?
"Alpha, your wedding is in three months. Isn’t having a plaything a little late? We could arrange for your fiancée to join you if you are eager to have a woman by your side," the Elders chimed in, displeased with the fact that he had acquired a plaything just before his wedding.
"If I am not mistaken, Alphas are known to have numerous concubines and breeders. My father chose to practice monogamy, but I am not him. I make my own decisions," his words were sharp and commanding. No one dared to challenge him, and silence settled over the table.
Theresa always felt proud whenever her husband was mentioned in their matters. They were always good words about him and it was thanks to his upright attitude.
Werewolves were known to possess high libidos thereby leading to the need of mating with so many women. Never in their pack’s history had an Alpha practiced monogamy, except Damien’s father and it seemed like Damien wasn’t going to follow his father’s path.
Truthfully, most packs preferred having an Alpha who wasn’t promiscuous rather than a promiscuous one. It was a hassle having to deal with Alpha’s like that, as they mostly turned into tyrants.
"That’s what I am saying, you won’t regret your decision. Cheers to a new lifestyle," Dave raised his glass, but received no response from the others except Aurora.
She raised her glass and clinked it with his. "I have always liked you," Dave said and downed his wine.
Aurora was less concerned about the ongoing conflicts between the Elders and the Alpha. After all, she was just a plaything.
She smirked and drank her wine, feeling better since she had entered the dining room. She could feel Damien’s intense gaze on her, but she ignored him and focused on her plate.
"Aurora, you look exceptionally beautiful today. How about accompanying me..." Damien was quick to interrupt Theresa, saying, "She is accompanying me today. Find someone else to accompany you."
"Alpha, the architecture for the new pack house that you requested are ready," Evelyn, the warrior lady, informed him.
"Give them to my Beta. Follow me," he said, turning to Aurora, who was still finishing her meal.
Soon enough, they were both in the car, heading toward their destination Aurora was unaware about. The silence in the car was deafening as none moved to strike a conversation.
Damien didn’t utter a word since they boarded the car, likewise Aurora.
A phone call came in and Damien hesitated before picking it.
"Hey darling," Aurora widened her eyes when she heard the endearment from the other side of the phone. Was Damien truly now interested in women? Dave would be shocked to know his brother wasn’t devoid of desires, should she tell him?
"You have five minutes," Damien’s reply was cold, brushing off the idea from Aurora’s mind. He was still the same heartless man she knew, she shook her head and faced her side.
"Alright, will be there next week." His replies were curt and short as he spoke with the woman speaking on the other side of the phone.
"Mr Enoch, where are we headed?" Getting tired of traveling in a car without arriving at a destination, she asked impatiently.
"Just Enoch and I think the Alpha is best suited for that question," he answered.
She rolled her eyes and decided not to engage in conversation with Damien. She wouldn’t be the first to speak to him after what he had done that night. Well, they had exchanged dialogue at the dining table, but that didn’t count. She couldn’t ignore him in front of everyone.
"I will just wait," she replied, adjusting herself to recline on the seat.
Finally, they arrived at their destination, and Aurora loved what she saw, it was a ballet concert. She had always enjoyed watching ballet shows on TV with her parents when they were still alive.
If only she hadn’t dreamed of a peaceful life with her mate, she might have pursued ballet and even achieved success if she hadn’t chosen Lucas.
"Stay close, they are strict with their guests. We wouldn’t want you to be embarrassed, would we?" Damien said, flashing her a smirk that made her want to punch him.
She averted her gaze and began walking into the hall.
"So stubborn!"
