Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 194: Outside the box
Chapter 194: Outside the box
"What is wrong with your Alpha and his beta?" Like the playful person he was, Dave asked and shook his head, finding both of their actions weird. Damien would never hesitate to protect his people, and Enoch would blindly accept to enter hell for Damien.
Why were they both suddenly avoiding responsibilities and choosing the careful path, something he always persuaded them to do?
"I believe we will find out soon," excusing themselves, an elder hopelessly said and they left the room.
"Well, I hope it is something good." Brushing it off, Dave muttered and also left the study room.
Inside Damien’s room...
"That was not our agreement, remember?" Tightly gripping her hand, he said, staring down at her with a burning intensity. She could feel his anger, his fear, his worry as they stared at each other and it reminded her of the time she lost her parents.
The way he breathed, his reaction, everything reminded of her when she was completely hopeless and she suddenly felt guilty.
"I am sorry," she pleaded, dropping her head in shame. She was being inconsiderate by agreeing to lead the search herself. The fear of Damien’s pack being ruined triggered the abrupt decision. She just didn’t want to be responsible for the deaths of innocent people.
Also, she was certain the reason Lucas remained silent was because of her. He was probably waiting for her to make the first move before deciding on what to do. So she had no time to waste and needed to act fast before Lucas went on a rampage.
Releasing her hand, he ran his hands through his hair frustratedly and sighed, his expression still mad.
Coming to stand in front of the window, he dropped his hands into his pocket and started, "Even if you weren’t the reason this war started, I would have still chosen war." Making it known that she didn’t have to blame herself for whatever was going on.
Lucas and him had come way back, but it was not a known fact because of their disagreeing personalities. While Lucas tried to warm up to everyone and make them submit to him, he became the opposite of what Lucas wanted and so they never became friends.
"Why?" She questioned.
"Lucas and I once schooled together, years back. We never liked each other, or more like I never liked him and that was where his hatred for me grew." Turning his body to her, he disclosed causing Aurora to sigh in shock.
"Wait!, wait..." holding her hands up, she repeated words and added, "You know Lucas from way back? And I am not the only reason this war is occurring?" Inquiring.
"Yes," he answered and her shoulders fell hopelessly.
So it was never only about her, there was a reason Lucas wanted to snatch her away from Damien. She should have known something was wrong with his obstinate attitude, it did look like he was doing it to boost his ego.
"That’s why I have been insisting on you staying out of it. The more you feed him with your presence, the more he uses you as an excuse to defend his intention." He said, causing Aurora to nod her head in agreement.
"I should have known, Lucas was not someone who valued love." Feeling a little relieved, she answered and made her way to the chair to sit. That new information washed her worries and somehow made her weak.
"But that’s not a reason to avoid seeking peace. We can still find another way to end this madness once and for all," she reasoned, expecting Damien to react with disappointment. Instead, he nodded and said, "I always have a plan," making her smile.
"And just so you know, you are not part of that plan," he added.
"What plan is that? I promise I won’t bring up my idea again if you tell me. I just want to know," she pleaded, though she knew it was a lie. She also knew Damien wouldn’t easily believe her, but it was worth a try.
She had a strong feeling that Damien’s plan involved hurting people, something she was desperate to avoid. She was prepared to break his trust again if necessary, this time without involving Scarlet but instead bribing a maid to help her.
"You know I don’t believe you, right?" Damien asked, raising an eyebrow and smirking mischievously at her.
"I know, but it’s the only way to keep me from going against your orders. So you can pretend to believe me or take the risk," she said, making him chuckle. He found her adorable at that moment.
She had grown, and he was proud of her. That was how Luna should be. Challenging the Alpha, making her own decisions, and being both tactful and smart. He knew she would be just fine if he left her in charge of the pack when he was gone.
"The plan is to lure him to his pack. That’s our best chance to kill him. An enemy is best defeated on their own turf," Damien finally revealed.
"You are kidding, right?" Feeling uneasy with his words, she stood up and walked over to him, searching his eyes for a different answer. The longer she stared, the more she hoped, and she could almost sense his thoughts.
"I wish I were joking, Aurora, but that’s the only way to end this foolishness. Why do you think Lucas ambushed us here? He knows he has a better chance of winning here, but he’s always been tactless in strategy. He won’t easily win this war, but if he keeps at it, he might. That’s why we have to lure him out," Damien explained, walking over to a cupboard to retrieve something.
"You will lose if you leave the pack. Enoch is struggling with the news of his child with Scarlet, and he’s the only one close to you in strength. How can he protect anyone in his state?" She couldn’t believe how absurd the plan was and began listing reasons why it was a terrible idea.
"You need to start thinking outside the box. I can’t protect everyone, but I can secure our future," he replied, handing her a map.
