Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 193: Evidence
Chapter 193: Evidence
Five days later...
"Should we be concerned about Alpha Lucas’s sudden silence or has he finally learned his lesson?" Dave relayed while they sat with the elders, Damien and Enoch in the study room.
Shockingly, Lucas never reformed his men to attack them again and it had been five days since there was no news from his troop. They managed to send spies but the spies barely came back alive, and the only one who successfully secured information for them had his tongue cut off.
It was like they were purposely not launching an attack and waiting for something to happen.
"Shouldn’t we work more on finding why? I mean, who suddenly changes their mind when they barely even got what they wanted?" One of the Elders suggested, reminding them of the fact that Lucas had not gotten what he started the war for.
"Unless you have a plan to help carry that out, don’t just suggest ideas." Dave who was already frustrated from having to hear the elders bring up stupid plans said, scolding the elder.
"Then should we just sit and wait for him to attack us surprisingly?" The elder didn’t like his tone and confronted him. Who was he to speak to him like that when he was just a brother to the Alpha and held no significant position?
"Or you could position yourself at the border instead?" Willing to fight with the elder, Dave mocked.
"What?" The elder repeated.
"You heard me right, oldie." Taunting, Dave responded, causing a fight to erupt.
"I think I have something that might help," Aurora’s voice broke the fight and they all went silent.
She was standing by the door and it was only Damien who knew when she came in, as others were too engrossed in their useless fight.
Damien already knew what that something was but he didn’t want to endanger her life, and that was why he had been hesitating to allow her to disclose the information to his people.
"And what could that be, Miss Aurora?" The elders who were willing to listen to her inquired.
"Alpha Lucas’s birth." She divulged and they all widened their eyes in shock.
Most of them were shocked by the fact that she knew something about Alpha Lucas, and some were shocked by the fact that Alpha Lucas’s birth had secrets to it. They suddenly grew curious and focused intently on her, their eyes pressing on for more information.
"Alpha Lucas’s mother cheated on the former Alpha of the Clown Lovers pack. Her greed for power made her agree to marry the Alpha and reject her mate. But, you can’t force love. The former Alpha never loved her and wouldn’t sleep with her so she grew lonely and was forced to commit adultery with her ex-mate. Once she found out she was pregnant, she and her ex-mate formed hands together to drug the former Alpha and find a way to get her to sleep with the former Alpha. Things worked their way and that was how their little secret died," Aurora narrated the whole ordeal for them and they all sat in awe, devoid of what to say.
"So...so you are saying, Alpha Lucas is a bastard?" Stammering, one of the elders asked, wanting to make sure he heard her properly.
"Yes, you can choose not to believe me, but I have evidence and I can only get it if you help me."
Confidently, she responded and they all exhaled.
"How can we trust your words?" An elder asked, irritation evident in his tone, which only served to annoy Damien further. Why was it so hard to believe?
"Remember, Miss Aurora is your future Luna, and she would never do anything to endanger her people," Damien interjected, defending her. Hearing him speak up on her behalf made Aurora’s heart skip a beat at the mention of her people.
Since their argument at the border, Damien had avoided the topic, leaving Aurora uneasy, worried that he still harbored doubts. But now, seeing him being reasonable, she felt a wave of relief, knowing she no longer needed to justify her actions.
"Alpha, we understand that, but if Miss Aurora fails to secure the evidence after we have done our part, it won’t just be her who loses the people’s trust, your authority could be questioned as well," the elder replied.
Damien knew the elder was right, but he didn’t want Aurora to face humiliation or ridicule, which is why he stood by her. He wasn’t entirely sure of her claims as five years was a long time, and she might have misinterpreted the truth. But she was determined, and he would make sure it was true, even if it wasn’t. Lucas was the one to blame, he had pushed Damien to the brink, and he wouldn’t let his pack suffer any further.
"I will get the evidence myself if that’s what it takes," Aurora offered, prompting a dissatisfied growl from Damien.
"No way! You are staying here while I handle it," he shot back.
"But I am the only one who knows where the evidence is, and Lucas could change his mind at any moment and launch an attack. The people will need you here, you can’t leave the pack," she countered.
"I have Enoch and Dave to coordinate things. They can manage just fine," he insisted, still unconvinced.
"Alpha, as much as we fear for Luna’s safety, it’s more dangerous for you to leave the pack. You are the only Alpha strong enough to stand against Lucas if he joins the war," an elder interjected before Aurora could respond.
"He’s right," Dave agreed.
"There’s no way I am sending you out there alone, no matter the reason. Either come up with a new plan, or we will forget about this secret," Damien said firmly, dragging Aurora out of the study room.
"Alpha!" The elders called after him, but he didn’t stop until they were out of sight.
"Beta Enoch, you have to do something," the elders turned to Enoch, who was still coming to terms with his new reality. Since learning Scarlet was pregnant, he had been cautious about accepting responsibilities, not wanting to be away from her.
"Let’s wait for the Alpha’s decision," Enoch said unexpectedly, surprising everyone in the room.
