Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 19: True colors of a fiancee
Chapter 19: True colors of a fiancee
His next words caught her off guard, causing her to choke on her drink. He was about to offer her his handkerchief, but she had already taken one out and started using it to wipe the juice stain on her dress.
"I am sorry about that," Damien apologized, though he felt no remorse for what had happened to her. How dare they pair him with a woman who was already tainted? He couldn’t wait to confront the elders about it.
"It’s not your fault," she suddenly wore a pathetic look and continued, "I have tried dating a lot of men, but it always ends after one date, and they never call back." Damien almost bit his tongue at her revelation. If all her dates had failed, then was she still innocent?
He cursed his luck inwardly, lateness was not a sufficient reason to call off the marriage idea. He needed something stronger to end the marriage without leaving any loopholes.
"Same here," Damien said, pretending to sympathize with her while giving her an insincere look. They both shared the same predicament, but he wasn’t sure he knew anything about what women liked based on those dates. She must have been desperate for a husband, given how closely she paid attention to those dates.
"So, tell me about yourself," he almost yawned after asking.
"I’m twenty-five..." he interrupted her, saying, "I already know that. Tell me something I don’t know." Sarah was confused, unable to determine what he didn’t know, but she tried to think of something anyway.
"I am a ballerina, and I have won numerous awards. I cook for the needy occasionally. I volunteer for charity on weekends, and I love playing basketball," she narrated, feeling proud of her achievements, even though most of them weren’t personally accomplished.
Damien was already bored and just wanted to leave the café. However, he caught his Beta’s pleading gaze and decided to endure more of this torture. Going on dates felt like torture to him because it wasn’t something he desired.
"Great. What do you plan to do as my wife?" He asked.
"Alpha, a wife should obey all her husband’s commands and do everything he asks," she replied.
"I mean, what do you have to offer me as my wife?" He emphasized his question.
"I...as your wife, I would do everything you ask and obey you at all times," she repeated the same words that irritated Damien.
Why couldn’t they resist him, even just once? They all seemed willing to do his bidding like a slave to its master. Imagine marrying someone who could easily be manipulated? He needed someone bold and... Wait, the breeder he had met ages ago might still be unmarried.
Why hadn’t he thought of this before? She was the answer to everything. She was the first woman who had directly rejected him despite his dominance. Now that he thought about it, Theresa would know the whereabouts of the breeder.
He picked up his phone and texted Enoch, his Beta.
’Do you remember the breeder Theresa brought in the night we left for the other country?’
Enoch looked up at him, wondering what Damien was planning.
’Yes, I do. What about her?’ Enoch replied.
’Do you know where she’s from and how we can find her?’ Damien asked.
’Dave would be well familiar with who she might be, he and Theresa were involved in bringing in breeders for you,’ Enoch responded.
Damien read the message but didn’t reply, so Enoch sent another text, ’What are you planning to do?’
’Just a way to cancel the unreasonable marriage,’ Damien answered.
’But you promised to marry her,’ Enoch reminded him.
’Yes, if she met my standards. But she’s a jinx.’
"Alpha, are you dissatisfied with me?" Sarah suddenly asked, using guilt as a weapon, something her gender was skilled at.
He wanted to say yes but, "Is there a reason for me to be?" He retorted.
She shook her head and asked, "Tell me about yourself too, Alpha?" Damien suddenly became interested. No one had ever shown interest in him before, this was a first.
"What do you want to know?" He asked.
"What are your preferences in a woman?" She replied.
"Indifferent," his reply was curt and resolute.
"Indifferent?" She responded, not understanding what he meant by the word. Was he referring to her attitude?
"Yes, indifferent. Figure it out for yourself. Oh, by the way, do you know the theme of this marriage?" Remembering the contract, he asked. Nothing was more important than the rules stated in the contract, as they were his only form of freedom.
"Yes, I do. It’s a marriage of convenience, but I had like to know your opinion on it. The contract was made without our knowledge," she inquired, waiting for his response with curiosity in her gaze. Based on her earlier statement about her failed dates, she was clearly seeking love, something he couldn’t afford to give her.
He texted his Beta, Enoch, and wrote, ’Told you, the deal is mine.’
"I am aware of the contract. I don’t plan on having a love-filled marriage, so I hope you feel the same," Damien answered straightforwardly.
"But love can blossom anywhere. A contract shouldn’t dictate a union," she persisted, causing Damien to lose his cool as he replied sternly.
"It’s not too late to back out. I have no love to offer in this arranged marriage. Save yourself from future heartbreaks and call off the marriage before it’s too late," he said, rubbing harsh words in her face, hoping she would give up on the marriage.
"Alpha, I am well aware of what the contract says, but I won’t be bound by it. I want my children to be loved by their father," she replied, changing her tone from the sweet one she had begun with to a cold one.
Damien smiled, happy that she was finally showing her true colors. Sometimes, all it took was a little spark to reveal a person’s true nature. And he was adept at bringing that out in people.
"You think that by loving you, I will love your children?" He responded, matching her vibe.
"It’s better than not loving me. I agreed to marry you not because of the pack’s decision. I have always wanted you, even before you became the Alpha. Fortunately, your pack is desperate for an heir, so you can’t reject me now," she stated confidently, throwing him a smile that made him want to rip it off her face.
"I suspected something was wrong when they had to find me a wife from an elder in another pack," Damien sighed, rubbing his hands together as he contemplated his next move.
"I might not be your type, but I will make you love me," she added with unwavering confidence.
"Well then, good luck gaining my affection if we ever get married," he replied dismissively, leaving a card on the table and promptly getting up to leave.
"Ah, my Beta prepared this for you," he pushed the gift forward and swiftly exited the café.
