Chapter 185: Patrol in town

It was the following morning and it was reported that Lucas had gone back to his pack, early that morning. Enoch and Dave were now in Damien’s room as they scolded him for acting rashly, most especially Enoch.

The conflict was inevitable but they should have the upper hand at the least. The war was going to be too bloody now that Lucas had left. Only if they had been able to stop him from leaving, then they would have figured out a plan.

"It is fun," Damien answered, causing Enoch to hiss frustratedly.

"Told you he was the sick one, no one believed me." Rubbing an apple with his hand, Dave said and busted into laughter. He wasn’t surprised about how things turned out, he was even surprised Lucas left with no bruises.

"Why didn’t you guys fight?" Escalating the matter, Dave asked.

"Right, I should have done that too." He answered and Enoch could feel his blood boiling. These two brothers were not making it easy for him, just how did he get entangled in such fate?

"My wedding is soon and I have no plans to spend my honeymoon shedding blood." He said.

"You have already shed her blood once," teasing, Dave said and Damien busted into laughter.

"Can we be serious here?" Getting frustrated, he pleaded.

"What’s that for? Your best Alpha is coming with an army of soldiers, shouldn’t you be gathering your men?" Annoying him, he advised but Enoch was agitated at the moment.

"Well if your Alpha didn’t want to have fun, we wouldn’t be in this situation. And you are going to help," facing Dave, he said, his eyes carrying finality that somewhat scared Dave. He had never seen Enoch this mad before, what was with the sudden rebel? No matter how wrong his brother was, Enoch would always choose to follow his wishes.

It was weird that Enoch found it hard to accept the situation of all people. Could it be because of his mate? Whatever Scarlet must have done to him was good, it finally brought him back to his senses.

Now, it was time to watch how this plays out. Would Enoch withdraw or fight the impending war? Just as he was about to question, a rushed knock interrupted him, causing them all to swoon their head toward the door.

"Alpha!!" From inside the room, they could hear the hurried cries of the person knocking outside. Maniacally, Damien smirked and said, "So soon?" Causing Enoch to glare at him.

Shrugging his shoulder, he made a clueless gesture at Enoch that only angered the latter more. Wasn’t he even weighing the consequences of his actions? Even if they won the fight, many would be affected in the pack. There might be even more deaths than injured people, how was he planning to escape that?

"People would die," he clarified , as if trying to remind him of the actions of fighting unnecessarily.

"Why do wolves train and get stronger? Is it to sit idly? Moreover, we should prove to other packs that we are still strong." Still unopposed, Damien said and Enoch finally gave in. He was right and also not right because this war could have been avoided. It was a war he wanted, not a war they could not avoid.

"What are your plans, brother?" Dave asked.

"Open the door," waving off his question, Damien nodded toward the door and instructed, causing Dave to walk up to the door and open it. Two people fell in as he opened the door, one was severely injured and the other seemed to be supporting the injured one.

"Alpha!" The slightly injured one cried out and picked up the severely injured one. Walking up to the alpha, he dropped the injured one and kowtowed to show his respect despite being in a bad situation.

"It is alright," releasing him from his position, Damien said and went to stand before him.

"Speak," he ordered and the man started explaining what happened.

"We were suddenly attacked by some men that didn’t look like rogues. They were more organized and seemed like they came to warn..." Halting, the man brought his head up to look at Damien, wondering if he should say the last word or not, until Damien assured him with a nod, "They came to warn you."

Meaningfully, Dave and Enoch turned to look at each other and it was now clear who the attack was from. No wonder Damien smirked, he already knew what happened. That malicious man!

"How many deaths?" Damien asked.

"Fortunately, some of us went into town for a patrol and we were only five stationed near the border. Three of us died, and I was able to escape with him." Referring to the injured one as him, he explained.

"Went into town for a patrol? Is that even an excuse?!" Angered, Enoch thundered at the absurdity of the guard’s words. A guard stationed near the border rarely patrols in town unless it is an emergency concerning an intruder.

"Shouldn’t you be aware?" The guard said, his expression shocking as he wondered why Enoch seemed angry when he shouldn’t be.

"Aware of what?" He asked.

"You sent us the alarm of a rogue in the pack, you even included the number of men that should go for the patrol. Unfortunately, I left my phone behind, I would have shown you the message." The guard disclosed and Dave burst into laughter.

"Enoch’s doppelganger sent them a message," snorting, he made fun of Enoch and shook his head at how careless he was. The mighty beta was finally beaten in his own game of intercepting phones. If there was a great hacker in the world, it would be Enoch. And that was why he could not fault Enoch most times, he was such a perfect beta with no flaws. How come his flaws were surfacing just when he decided to love his mate? Women can be a distraction in men’s lives.

"Take him to the infirmary, and do not speak of what happened until we find out who is behind this." Before Enoch could utter another word, Damien ordered the guard who immediately received the instruction and left.

"Your rival is behind this, why hide it?" Once the guard left, Dave asked.

"Didn’t you want a fight? How can we achieve that if we don’t play along?" Smirking, he said and turned to face Enoch who was currently boiling in anger.

"Relax, I promise to avenge you."
