Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night
Chapter 159: Human Inventions

Chapter 159: Human Inventions

Maybe Nureo was justified in his decision, Dave needed to mature before considering marriage.

"Shouldn’t you give up and return once you are mature enough to handle a woman?" Damien suggested.

"I don’t need time to mature, I can handle it well," Dave refused, detesting the thought of being separated from his mate for an extended period. The idea of Charlotte possibly forgetting him or marrying someone else disgusted him.

Charlotte belonged to him alone, nothing and no one could come between them.

"Dave, have you ever been in a serious relationship?" Damien asked, even though he already knew the answer, attempting to make a point. The only relationship Dave had that was somewhat serious was with Evelyn, but that didn’t end well.

"Yes, not really serious, but it was a relationship," Dave answered, reflecting on his time with Evelyn, an 18-year-old ambitious woman.

"Did it end well?" Damien inquired further.

"No, because she decided she didn’t want me. It wasn’t my fault it failed," he defended himself, knowing he had done nothing wrong to cause her dissatisfaction. He had money, looks, intelligence, and knew how to handle a woman in bed. What else could she want? He never made her feel sad or guilty, shouldering the blame for every action to make her happy.

He loved her beyond anything a man could fathom, yet she repaid him with heartbreak. If not for her, he wouldn’t have ended up hurting his mate. He would have embraced her the moment she entered his life.

Reflecting on it, if she hadn’t left him, he might not have met Charlotte. He remembered buying a house in the pack to live with Evelyn when they were still a couple, envisioning a future marriage and everlasting happiness.

After the heartbreak, unable to bear the pain, he returned to the mansion where he met Charlotte for the first time. She came with her brother for a visit and refused to leave after falling for him.

"Fine, you treated her well. But did you ever ask her what she wanted? Did you try to create a space for her ambitions?" Damien asked, and Dave fell silent. The question seemed to resonate with him because the answer was no.

"I thought all women liked the same things, so I gave her what I thought were feminine things," he replied.

"Everyone knew Evelyn didn’t have feminine traits. She never liked tea parties or outings. She preferred war to marriage," Damien pointed out, stating the obvious.

Dave frowned, finding sense in his brother’s words. He always talked to her about beautiful dresses and lavish parties, assuming she would enjoy them because she never complained.

She would accept everything with a wide smile, deceiving him into thinking she was content.

"You know, the reason she left you was that she thought you were in her way of achieving her ambitions. You wanted pink, and she wanted black," Damien revealed, and Dave uttered an "ohh."

"I... She never told me any of these," Dave said, feeling remorse for her. Recalling the look on her face a few days ago, he was starting to comprehend what Damien meant. She expressed regrets, perhaps wishing she had been more vocal about her desires.

Back then, he was willing to accommodate her wishes, but neither of them tried to understand what they truly wanted. Dave was never the type to embrace the color pink, he just assumed that it was what defined a woman.

"Because it was never easy for her, she decided to let you go so you could find happiness with another woman," Damien added.

It was all beginning to make sense, the silent treatment, the sighs, the distancing, it all indicated that she was tired of the pink life and wanted to be herself. He also realized he had failed her, she wasn’t solely at fault.

Things happen for a reason, they were never destined to be. But if he could turn back time, he would have gone back to when he met Charlotte and chose her. She prioritized him over her own desires, and what did he do in return? Inflict pain.

"What should I do?" He asked.

"Come back home for a while and fix yourself. If she truly loves you, she will wait," Damien advised.

"That’s very hard to do," Dave admitted, anxiously scratching his neck.

"I know, but you have to if you want this relationship to be your last," Damien said, and a deep sigh came from Dave’s end.

Damien understood his struggle, but he was only trying to help him. Rushing things often led to mistakes. The patient dog gets the fattest bone.

"But I already declared my mission, how do I just leave?" Dave asked.

"Don’t worry, I would take care of that if you are willing to come back home," Damien offered, and Dave knew that was the only option left, to return home and mend his life first.

"Would you like to speak with Louis?" Dave asked, and Damien took that change of topic as a yes. It was the first time Dave was listening to him without being forced, his brother was changing.

"Hopefully, if he can still talk," Damien teased, causing Dave to roll his eyes. What could he possibly gain from hurting Louis? The boy was only a young teenager trying to survive in this harsh world, Dave couldn’t blame him.

"Give me a minute," Dave said, walking out of his room and into Louis’s room.

"Hi, are we going on another tour?" Damien heard Louis’ excited voice from his end and couldn’t help but chuckle. Here he was, worrying like a new father while his son was having the time of his life over there.

"No, your brother wants to speak with you," Dave replied, extending his hand to give him the phone.

"How do I use that?" Innocently, Louis asked, feeling awkward, and Dave responded, "I forgot our man here is from the Ancient world."

"Now, I will put this on your ear, and you will use your hand to keep it from falling while talking to the person on the phone, okay?" Dave instructed. When Louis nodded, Dave followed his instructions, prompting Louis to do as told.

"I never knew you liked touring," Damien spoke, and Louis parted his mouth in shock. He could hear Damien’s voice without seeing him, human inventions were the best.
