Chapter 160: Dave again

"Surprising, I can hear you crystal clear, this thing is amazing." Louis remarked, conveying his astonishment. Now burdened with numerous ambitions, he wondered how he could pursue them all as they kept flooding in.

"Do you want one?" Damien inquired over the phone.

"Can I?" Louis questioned, curious about how Damien planned to get one for him.

"Yes, Dave will get you one," Damien assured, prompting Louis to grin in anticipation of owning one of the phones.

"Thank you," Louis expressed his gratitude.

"Is Dave giving you a hard time? Did he coerce you into joining? Are you comfortable there?" Damien began his inquiries, adopting a concerned tone akin to that of a worried father, nearly eliciting giggles from Louis.

"Alpha Damien, I will officially be an adult next year. Keep in mind I am not a kid, so you don’t have to worry too much." Louis cleared his throat, attempting to sound as responsible as possible.

Unfortunately, Dave had already left the room after showing him how to handle the phone. Louis would have liked to exhibit this responsible side to Dave.

"Alright, Little Boss, I will be hanging up now," Damien teased.

"Sure, bye," eager to conclude the call, Louis bid farewell and took the phone away from his ear, inadvertently forgetting to hang up. He rushed toward the door and entered Dave’s room, puzzled to find him packing his things.

Was Dave leaving without him? Why was he suddenly preparing to depart?

"Are you going somewhere?" Louis inquired, approaching him.

"We are going home," Dave declared, reaching out for his phone.

"Right!" Louis exclaimed, handing him the phone. He still wondered why they were abruptly heading back home when they had just arrived. Dave had already expressed his intentions to marry Charlotte, why the sudden change?

"Why are we leaving?" He asked.

"Your brother wanted it," Dave replied, walking over to the wardrobe to retrieve his coat.

"Brother? Damien?" Louis questioned. If Damien was the reason for their departure, could it be because of something involving him? But Damien didn’t sound angry earlier, what could be happening?

"Yes," Dave confirmed, packing more clothes into the luggage.

"Why?" Louis probed, and Dave turned his head to look at him, frustration evident on his face, making Louis think it was directed at him.

"Because..."

"I am sorry. I meant to tell him, but he was already out of the mansion, and I wouldn’t be able to follow you if I had to look for him. When you arrived, I was too distracted by your car to mention it," Louis interjected, confessing and dropping his head in shame for his oversight. If only he had informed Dave before they left, they wouldn’t have had to cut their trip short.

"Wow," was Dave’s only response. Now he understood why Damien’s tone sounded somewhat accusatory earlier. Damien likely didn’t know about his absence and was deeply worried, thinking something must have happened to him. Or he kidnapped him to hurt him for being rude to him, such wild thoughts his brother had.

"I know, scold me if you want," Louis sighed, remorseful for his impulsive behavior.

"Okay, first, the reason we are going back is because of me, not you. Second, you should have told me the moment we arrived here, I could have at least informed Damien to avoid worrying everyone," Dave corrected Louis’s assumptions and reproached him calmly. Though annoyed, getting angry at this point seemed futile.

Louis didn’t act with bad intent, the boy was more innocent than his actions suggested. Dave understood Louis’s eagerness to explore the world, and he wouldn’t blame him for that.

"It’s not because of me?" Louis repeated, his face brightening with the hopeful revelation.

"Yup, it’s an adult matter. But it’s not about you, so stop beating yourself up and go get ready to leave," Dave advised.

"Adult matter? He wants you to fix yourself before asking for her hand in marriage?" Louis suddenly blurted, shocked by his own words. He knew he could read minds, but Dave’s mind was typically blocked. How was he able to break down the walls and enter?

Halting in what he was doing, Dave turned to look at him and said, "No way," unwilling to believe what had just happened. Did that little boy just read his mind?

"I don’t know how it happened. I promise it wasn’t intentional," Louis explained, shaking his head to prove innocence. Due to his limited access to his skills, there were certain minds he couldn’t read unless permitted, similar to Damien. He believed Damien was trying to figure out who he was, that was why he allowed him to read his mind.

Moreover, Damien’s sudden protectiveness seemed strange, could he have discovered something and was trying to shield Louis from the truth? What could he have found out?

"I just made a money-making friend, can you do it even when you ain’t looking?" Amazed, Dave stood up and walked over to him, recognizing the potential in his skill. Not many supernaturals could read minds, ancient vampires could, but most of their generations couldn’t inherit the skill. Witches could also read minds, but a spell was needed for that.

The only supernatural being with mind-reading power was the devil and his offspring. Unfortunately, demons rarely came to the outer world unless they were on a mission to destroy.

"No, I am unable to access it all yet, so I have to be focused to use any of my skills. It just never gets better," Louis answered, pleased that someone appreciated his abilities. Most people despised having their minds read, hiding secrets.

"Have you tried asking or reading old books?" Dave inquired, reminding him of the conversation with Aurora before he left the mansion. This was exactly her suggestion, reading books and conducting research.

She also promised to bake him a cake, could her effort have gone to waste?

"Oh, Aurora suggested that too, and she decided to help me. She must be annoyed about my sudden disappearance," Louis said.

"Damien would soothe her in bed," Dave replied, causing Louis to choke on his air. This shameless man was at it again!
