Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 157: Charlotte’s Opinion
Chapter 157: Charlotte’s Opinion
"Mr. Dave, why did you say getting our Alpha an arranged wife is a bad idea?" The elder asked, getting impatient.
"Just you know, they don’t feel the bond, your pain, or struggles. All they are concerned about is being a good wife and Luna, they never try to understand you." Dave said, explaining what he meant. If Sarah had been able to feel Damien’s pain, she wouldn’t have tried to kill Aurora, knowing how well he cherished her.
One’s mate should always consider one’s feelings, that is the norm.
"We have cases where mates betray each other. Not everyone with a mate is happy, like you said, it’s all about being a good wife and Luna. Why not? If she is troublesome and temperamental, why does it matter if she is a mate? But if she is understanding and responsible, wouldn’t it benefit Alpha?" The old man said, conquering Dave’s words. Unfortunately, Dave had never been good with arguments, he was only good with a wayward lifestyle.
"I give up, this is why I allow the wise ones to do the politics," Dave said and directed his gaze at Charlotte, sighing in relief when she was no longer looking at him disdainfully. It was a look of worry mixed with fear, he couldn’t explain it, but he was grateful that it wasn’t a look of disdain anymore.
"You said Alpha Damien has found his mate, when did it happen?" Curious, he asked.
That was the only information Alpha Nureo grabbed from all that Dave said.
"Oh, that was like a month ago? Or was it two? He would introduce her to everyone at the coming banquet," Dave relayed.
"What an irony, that nuthead turns out to be blessed with a mate?" The particular, average-looking guy spoke, picking up a glass of water to drink.
Dave didn’t know who he was, but he guessed he was the third brother, the one before Charlotte. He was said to be a wanderer and playboy like him, but given his looks, how did he manage to woo girls? That look is not even enough to woo an average-looking lady.
"And you are?" Dave asked.
"Bruno, some call me Benjamin," Bruno answered, shrugging his shoulders.
"Some? You were named Benjamin, brother." Alpha Nureo interjected, shaking his head at Bruno’s irresponsible words.
"That was why I said some," calmly, Bruno retorted. For an odd reason, Dave loved how calm he was, his words were dominating, yet his aura remained calm. People like him were more dangerous than people who are said or claim to be dangerous. They are silent killers, they attack silently and it’s never good.
"So Dave, might we ask why you graced us with your presence today?" Diverting his attention, Alpha Nureo inquired despite knowing what Dave was here for.
"As you all know, having a mate is an amazing thing. I am here to seek the hand of my mate in marriage," bluntly, Dave said, surprising them all.
Dave had a mate in their pack? Who was the mate that he needed to get permission from the Alpha before marrying her?
Even Alpha Nureo was shocked to hear him boldly speak up. Maybe, he was quick to judge Dave, he sounded responsible.
He momentarily glanced at his beta and the latter smiled meaningfully at him. He wanted to slap off that smile from his face, he hated it when Madrid turned out to be right. Even if Madrid didn’t directly say it, he knew Madrid wanted him to give Dave a chance before making a decision.
Well, he had no other choice now, he was going to give Dave a chance to prove himself.
"Wow, who is the lucky woman?" Feigning ignorance, Nureo further asked.
"The only woman worthy of my praises, Lady Charlotte. Though, I hope she is willing to take me as her mate too." He answered and a certain number of people gasped, not expecting that revelation.
"Mr. Dave, are you sure she is your mate?" The same old man from earlier asked, fazed.
They never considered Charlotte capable of having a mate because of her playful demeanor. And here she was, blessed with a mate even before their Alpha. Life is truly an irony, it could never be predicted.
"Yes, why would I lie about something as important as this?" Annoyed by the question, Dave asked. What did they take him for? A whore who would lie about having a mate just to get within her legs?
Yes, he was a playboy, a flirt, but how could he stoop so low as to do such a thing?
"Dave, don’t be offended. We are all just surprised that my sister is your mate." Alpha Nureo butted in, noticing the tense atmosphere.
"I am not," Dave replied.
"Thanks for understanding. Concerning what you came here for, I am so sad to inform you that I can’t entrust my sister into your hands." And just as expected, Nureo said what he had been anticipating.
"Of course, it’s only normal but in the end, she is my mate, without her, I am incomplete. Her opinion matters more, if she wants me then I am ready to do anything to make you trust me." Dave said.
"True, alright. Then let’s ask her," Nureo suggested.
They all turned their body to face Charlotte and she inched backwards, intimidated by the sudden stares. She almost glared at her brother for putting her in such a situation, what was he playing at?
"Charlotte, do you want to accept Dave as your mate?" Alpha Nureo asked.
"I..." she started, turning to meet Dave’s gaze. His eyes spoke volumes but most of all, she saw desperation in them. Could all her assumptions be wrong and Louis was just his relative? She felt lost, uncertain of what her decision should be.
Dave already made it clear that he wanted her, and the past month they spent together was a blissful one. She realized he was more than the playboy they all taught. He took over the Alpha’s job neatly, his concentration was unexpected.
