Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 151: The Orphanage Home
Chapter 151: The Orphanage Home
"Has she left the mansion yet?" Damien had concluded his supervision of the construction in the pack and found himself standing in front of the orphanage home within the pack.
Seizing the opportunity presented by his visit to the construction site, he had taken the time to inspect various areas in the pack.
As anticipated, corruption had infiltrated certain quarters, and Damien was determined to address and rectify the situation. What infuriated him even more was the discovery that some individuals were exploiting the pack’s sponsorship program for personal gain.
Upon inspecting the orphanage home, Damien sensed that something was amiss. He had to resort to threatening the person in charge before obtaining the necessary information.
It became apparent that the children were facing hardships, with their meals being shortened, and they were being denied new clothes. Additionally, they were threatened with expulsion if they dared to disclose the mistreatment.
He wanted to blame his Beta, but then, Enoch had been following him around for the past five years. Knowing how diligently Enoch worked, he could also be blamed for the errors in the pack.
"No, she’s reported to still be in her room since her return," Enoch conveyed.
Damien’s frustration intensified upon hearing this information. If his suspicions were correct, she was unwilling to leave for the phantom hills. While he derived joy in pursuing her, his current mood wasn’t conducive to chase after her, he might end up hurting her.
"Arrange for someone to bring her," he instructed, opting for the only solution that seemed to benefit both parties.
"Against her will?" Enoch inquired.
Damien fell into silence, contemplating whether to coerce her presence or let the matter rest. "Forget it," he eventually responded and began walking towards the mansion. It seemed he had no choice but to retrieve her himself.
"Should I wait here?" Enoch shouted after him, choosing not to disturb him since he knew Damien’s destination. It was futile trying to tell him what is right at this point, Damien is smitten by her.
"No," Damien replied. Even though Enoch could barely discern his words, he got what he said.
"See, your Alpha is not in a good mood. Get him the documents he requested before sunset," he instructed, addressing the chief still kneeling before Enoch. The chief widened his eyes in terror at the daunting task imposed upon him.
Realizing the limited time available to gather the requested documents, the chief panicked. Even without knowledge of the exact time, the prevailing weather indicated that sunset was approaching. How would he manage to meet Damien’s demands in such a short timeframe?
"Sire! It’s almost sunset," he pointed out, hoping for some leniency.
"You have keen eyes. Good to know you take your responsibilities seriously," Enoch remarked, ignoring the chief’s concerns. As he turned to leave, a hand on his left leg prevented him from moving forward.
"No, Sire! Have mercy on me. I can’t complete everything before sunset. Give me more time!" The chief pleaded, clinging to Enoch’s leg like a desperate child. Bystanders couldn’t help but glance in their direction, curious about why the once-arrogant chief was kneeling before a man.
"Isn’t that the Beta?"
"Wow, I never thought I would see the proud chief at someone’s feet."
"His downfall strangely brings me joy."
"Have they discovered his secret?"
Whispers circulated among the spectators, their disdainful gazes fixed on the chief. For most, the cause of the accusations against him were irrelevant, they merely sought satisfaction in witnessing his downfall.
Enoch bent down to the chief’s height, bringing his mouth close to the man’s ear as he inquired, "Did the underprivileged children also plead with you like this? And how did you respond?" He leaned back, scrutinizing the chief with a mischievous raised brow.
"I... It was the devil’s influence. I never intended any of this, I just wanted my family to be okay," the man replied, devoid of remorse in his voice, an aspect that further annoyed Enoch. The werewolves were now attributing their actions to the devil, but what set them apart?
"A family man, touching. I wonder if your own children know how you treat others," Enoch feigned sympathy, prompting the chief to assert, "My kids...I discipline them." Despite his attempt at sounding impartial, his actions betrayed him.
Discipline differed from maltreatment, and the evident mistreatment of the children left Enoch feeling ashamed for him. How had such a shameless individual become chief? This could be the starting point for investigating the root of the corruption.
"Chief Martin, our Alpha requires the documents prepared before sunset. Head to the mansion once you are ready," Enoch, fed up with the man’s excuses, forcefully released his grip and issued the command, adjusting his shirt in the process.
"Ah, yes. I hope fleeing is not on your agenda, otherwise, your family may receive an unwelcome visit," he threatened before walking away.
"Sire! Wait, noo! I am going to atone for my sins, just give me more time!" the chief yelled after Enoch, crawling on the floor in a disgusting manner that elicited laughter from onlookers.
"Sweet revenge. How does it feel to be on the receiving end, huh?" A young woman remarked, spitting on him with a satisfied smirk as she passed.
"You dare, wench!" Even in his pitiful state, the chief found the strength to yell at someone, causing those who had pitied him earlier to reconsider.
"Should we inform the Alpha about your assaults on young women too? That would be delightful, don’t you think?" The young woman threatened, giggling, which only fueled the chief’s irritation. He had been careful with his dealings, he never expected the Alpha’s visit to be so sudden and unexpected.
Normally, the beta would inform each organization of his visit prior to the date to prepare them. None of those happened, and it was too late to conceal things, landing him in this situation.
He needed to inform the Superior and seek assistance before matters escalated. If denied help, he vowed not to go down alone.
With an hour remaining before sunset, he felt determined. Standing up, he brushed off his clothes, disregarding the hateful looks, and made his way toward his car, driving off with the resolute thought that he wouldn’t face his downfall alone.
