Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night
Chapter 148: A progress

Chapter 148: A progress

"I would," responded Louis.

Signaling to one of the maids, Damien called, and she promptly answered.

"Serve my brother something in his room, make it delectable," he commanded.

"Okay, Alpha," the maid replied and left to deliver the message.

Louis felt emotional witnessing Damien’s care for Dave, despite their outward lack of affection for each other. Did his parents give birth to more children after him, or does he have elder siblings?

"What?" Damien asked, as if sensing Louis’s gaze on him.

"Nothing," Louis replied, looking away, and continued eating. This prompted him to consider apologizing to Dave later. He had left the world of witches, and now it was time to embrace his role in the wolf’s world.

"Hmm," Damien hummed, expressing doubt that it was truly nothing. The look in his eyes suggested he wanted to say something but was holding back. Louis now understood what Aurora meant, he preferred doing things independently rather than seeking help.

He resolved to find time to talk to Damien later.

"Elder Collins, get yourself ready in five. Enoch, follow after me," Damien instructed, facing the elder in charge of construction and ordering Enoch in turn.

"Yes, Alpha," Elder Collins replied.

Taking their leave, they walked toward Damien’s study room. The other elders finished eating and also left, leaving Aurora, Theresa, and Louis behind.

Theresa excused herself, as she had responsibilities as the mistress of the house regarding the banquet.

Aurora and Louis remained, and once again, he avoided her gaze. Aurora almost regretted agreeing to take care of Louis, it seemed like a more challenging task than she had anticipated.

Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she initiated a conversation. "When did you start using the portal to teleport?"

"Portal? Is that what you all call it?" Louis asked, wondering about their choice of words. While technically accurate, he preferred a more fitting name for it.

"It’s an opening, so it’s basically a portal," Aurora reasoned.

"No, I call it a gateway," Louis retorted, feeling proud of the name he had given his teleporting ability. As an interdimensional portal, it could be called that or simply a gateway.

"Oh right. Gateway," Aurora couldn’t help but giggle, finding his assertion cute. The way he boasted about it made him look adorable. It seemed there was more to his independence than met the eye.

Suddenly growing shy, Louis blinked repeatedly and scratched his neck nervously, not expecting her to find his words amusing. This was his first real conversation with a woman, and it felt strange yet lively.

"Do you feel weak after opening the gateway?" She asked, taking a bite from the fruit in front of her and pushing some towards him.

"Sometimes, it weighs me down, but it has gotten better. It was exhausting during my first trials, but with time, it improved. I can’t open it just anyhow, I have to be focused," he explained, picking up a fruit with a fork to chew on.

Aurora smiled, observing that he wasn’t hesitant to eat. This conversation seemed to flow smoothly, thanks to the presence of fruit. She now had an opportunity, and Damien was correct, everyone just needed a chance.

"What if you are training the wrong way? I mean, there was a time I thought ballet was all about swaying and moving skillfully. I got to know it was more about precision and balance, and I improved once I realized that," she suggested, weaving in a personal story to support her point. She had learned ballet incorrectly until joining an academy and discovering her errors.

Life had taken a different turn, and she didn’t completely regret not pursuing the ambition, because of her plan to live a quiet life in the countryside if she ever found a husband.

"I thought about that and tried seeking help, but they always advised me to keep on training, nothing more," he said, recalling the intense training he underwent without significant improvement.

"Did you try asking your parents?" She inquired, and he fell silent. Aurora stopped chewing, focusing on him, realizing that her question might have hit a sensitive spot. After all, why would someone with parents end up in a completely different world?

"I am sorry, I didn’t..." she began, but he cut her off, saying, "It’s not you, I just blacked out for a while. My parents dumped me in the dark witches’ world after I was cursed. I don’t know who they are, but I am guessing they are humans," he answered, shrugging as if he didn’t just black out, and resumed eating the fruit.

"Humans? Then how do you have powers?" Aurora asked, intrigued. In her 18 years of living with humans as an outcast within the pack, she hadn’t encountered humans with supernatural abilities. Unless, of course, his parents weren’t humans, as he assumed.

"I am not entirely sure, they could be supernaturals for all I know. I have to find out my origin myself," he said nonchalantly.

"I want to help you with that," she offered, and he shook his head, rejecting the offer as she expected.

"I won’t bother you with my problem," he said, declining her assistance.

"Well, your problem is mine now. I can’t accept your ’NO,’ sorry. If you want our findings to be private, I assure you of that. But there is no ’NO,’" Aurora declared firmly.

For the first time, he gazed at her, surprised by her determination. Looking into her eyes felt different, she didn’t seem intimidating or unapproachable, and he found himself wanting to gaze at her more.

"See, it’s not that hard to look," Aurora pointed out, catching him and bursting into triumphant laughter.

Blushing, Louis looked away, realizing he had been caught. So she knew he had been avoiding eye contact all this time?

"Now that we have come to an agreement, I’ll send some men to you for more details that can help. In the meantime, there should be a book about teleporting skills in the library. Go through them," Aurora directed, speaking like his sister, her words carrying an authority he couldn’t defy.

Bobbing his head, he responded, "Okay."

Aurora smiled with satisfaction, pleased with their progress. ’It wasn’t that difficult, was it, Louis?’ She thought.

She noticed a change in his gaze, sensing that he wanted to say something but was hesitating. So, she inquired, "What is it?"

"I was just wondering if cakes are also made here," he shared his thoughts centering on the one thing he enjoyed the most in the witches’ world. Despite sounding unlikely, witches excelled at making cakes. They crafted extraordinary cakes that could transport you to cloud nine.

"Of course, do you want one?" She asked, finding his question somewhat amusing. Cake was a standard dessert everywhere, a favorite among humans.

"Yes," he nodded without hesitation, already savoring the anticipation of its taste.

"What flavor do you like? I will make one for you," she offered, feeling an urge to take care of him. She regretted judging him too quickly, this boy had layers yet to be uncovered. She sensed pain and suffering in him and wished to alleviate that burden.

"I love chocolate," he beamed, smiling widely at her.

"I will get it ready and have it sent to you," she promised.

"Thank you," Louis expressed gratitude, feeling a sense of security with her. If only her friend were a bit friendlier, he wouldn’t have to continually avoid their gazes. Her friend was a demon, a she-devil, and he had no desire to cross her.

Aurora was about to ask more questions when a maid came to summon her, "Miss Aurora, Lady Theresa wants to see you," the maid relayed.

"Me? Why?" She inquired.

"I have no idea, Milady," the maid responded, bowing her head respectfully.

She and Theresa were now on good terms, so she wasn’t angry at her anymore. She simply didn’t know why Theresa wanted to see her. She hoped it wasn’t about the dress for the banquet...ugh, she despised formal wear.

"Alright, I will be on my way," she informed the maid, who then left.

"Louis, you can explore around the mansion, there are many amazing places. I was going to show you around, but duty calls, so I will join you another time," she suggested, earning a nod from him.

"Goodbye," he bid her farewell, and she left with a smile.

Once he was alone, he ate a few more varieties on the table and decided to stroll around, as she had suggested. Yesterday, he had attempted to leave the mansion but needed permission. Surprisingly, he didn’t need permission to roam.

As he wandered, he became disoriented and didn’t know which way to go until he spotted a tall, inviting tree. The tree seemed so comforting that he chose to take a nap before finding his way back to the mansion.

Climbing the tree, he came to a halt when he saw the man he had provoked at the dining room peacefully asleep on it.

Fear crept in, and he was about to leave when his voice startled him, "Running away like a coward, huh?"
