Chapter 137: Ancient witch

"I am an ancient witch, the last of our kind that remains pure," she replied, dispelling some doubts in his mind. So that was how she knew about him? Ancient witches possessed the ability to see beyond what normal individuals perceived, the future. They could effortlessly sense the supernatural without exerting much effort.

The ancient witches held unmatched magical power, thriving and achieving success in their endeavors. However, discord arose among them when some rebels protested against restrictions on using their magic to resurrect the dead. It seemed absurd to some of them that they possessed immense power but had to be selfless with it. The rebellion led to a split, creating separate worlds for white and dark witches.

How had she managed to survive so long without the presence of other ancient witches?

Now, he grasped her perspective. Understanding ’how’ came through knowing ’what.’ He felt a sense of trust in her and desired more valuable information.

"Are you dying?" He asked, sensing the emotions she conveyed.

"Yes," she affirmed. No wonder her eyes carried so much emotion, she worried for the white witches.

"What about your descendants?" He inquired, hoping she had someone else to continue their lineage.

"I have no offspring," Louis could sense the sorrow in her voice. Somehow, he felt like she had lost her child or children, judging from her demeanor.

"What are your plans?" He asked.

"A great war between the witches is unavoidable, and with only my ancient power, I fear we would be overruled. There is a child mentioned in the prophecy to end the strife, but no one knows where she is. She is our only hope," she explained.

"Why not use your ability to look into the future to find the child?" He suggested. If she was capable enough to see beyond normal, finding the child shouldn’t be a problem.

"I have tried, but that is the one thing I am unable to see. It’s like something is blocking me from finding her," she replied, gazing into the sky as if seeking hope.

"Blocking you? Have you tried seeking help?" Louis asked, finding himself worried for her. He knew lots of sorcerers in the dark witches world but going back there was not an option.

"I am the purest of the white witches, no one is up to par when it comes to my magic." She answered, and though it might sound boastful to other people, she was only stating a fact.

"What of the opposite side?" He suggested, sounding as polite as he could to avoid offending her. Dark witches and whites were strong enemies, they hated each other.

"Why do you think they are called dark? Whatever they touch becomes dark, they never see good in anything. Asking for their help is like seeking death," she said, her gaze becoming furious. Louis was beginning to think a dark witch had offended her before, from the way she was talking.

"Louis!" Damien called from behind him, briefly distracting Louis. He signaled for Damien to approach, but when he turned back to face the woman, she had disappeared again. Why was she avoiding Damien?

"I thought you’d never return," Damien remarked, smirking at the sight of the horse.

"I am not a child," Louis retorted, rolling his eyes at Damien’s playfulness.

"Are you ready to go home?" Damien asked, ignoring Louis’s protests.

"Home?" Louis repeated, the word sounding foreign to him. He had never had a place to call home, and he wondered if Damien was planning to take him to his pack. Widening his eyes, he stared at Damien, and as if reading his thoughts, Damien nodded in confirmation.

"Why?" He was curious as to why Damien was willing to take him.

"You are cute, I would make you into a fine husband for my daughter," Damien answered, causing him to frown at his playful reply. He never knew when to be serious.

"Well, I have named you, I could as well nurture you." Changing his response, he replied but Louis was still not convinced.

Looking at him suspiciously, Louis’ eyes demanded answers that almost made Damien give in, but he fought it off.

"Trust me, I have a cute bunny with me but I locked her up for going against me." He said, remembering when he was furious and locked Aurora up. Even though he was proud of the cold man he was then, he wasn’t sure he was still the same man as before.

"You are weird," he said, shaking his head and walking away.

"I know you love it," Laughing, Damien followed after him and they began chatting away, hitting each other in the process.

Damien knew Louis had nowhere to go and wanted to follow them out, mainly because he was willing to go to his pack. He knew how hard it was for the boy to ask, so he made it easy for him. He wasn’t lying about the part of nurturing him as he felt the urge to protect him for an unknown reason.

He had a clue of what Louis was, and the boy was going to need someone if his powers started surfacing. He could keep his kids company once they were born.

He wasn’t even halfway through his relationship with Aurora, but he could already imagine his incoming family. Feeling fulfilled, he decided to check up on Enoch and inform Scarlet of their departure.

They couldn’t delay any longer, as a bad feeling was gnawing at him about this place. He was sure they hadn’t eliminated those kidnappers, more was still going to come, and for them.

Entering the room, he saw Scarlet and Enoch sleeping on the bed, wrapped in each other’s embrace. What a beta he was, slacking right after waking up. He chuckled, feeling the urge to take a picture to tease Enoch later but he had no phone on him.

As he was about to leave, his gaze fell on something in the room, earning an amused look from him. Taking a closer look, he figured out who it was, the doctor.

What could have caused his death? And why were those two sleeping in a room with a dead body peacefully? He knew Enoch not to be careless but this was too dangerous.

Sighing, he dragged the doctor out of the room and went to place him at the stable. He hissed at how he was doing the job his beta was supposed to do.

That bastard! He was going to make him pay for it, once they were back. He went back to the inn and went into his room, finding Aurora still sleeping that worried him.

Wasn’t she completely healed? She was sleeping more than she should, could she be running a fever? Walking up to the bed, he sat beside her, dropping his hand on her forehead to examine her temperature. She wasn’t running at any temperature and she looked fine.

She was probably tired so he got into bed with her, drew her closer to him and slept off.

"Aurora!"

"Aurora!"

Groaning, she sat up, meeting Damien’s worried face. What was happening?

"We need to get out of here, I will explain once we are out of here." He said, helping her out of the bed. Not wasting any more time, he picked her up and walked out of the room. Getting to the inn’s reception, Scarlet, Enoch and Louis were already waiting for them, looking like they were ready to leave.

"I would hold them on for a while, Arianna would lead you through the backdoor," the white-haired woman appeared, walking toward the door to save them time.

"Louis, do not be impatient." She said, passing a warning to him, and turned her back away.

"Follow me," Arianna said, leading them through another exit.

"Louis! Let’s go, what are you doing?" Damien called out, breaking him out of his thoughts. Gathering himself, he followed after them and they went through the back door, coming out of a basement.

"Go through that route, we will try as much as possible to stall them." Arianna directed them and shut the door to the basement afterwards.

Taking the lead, Enoch held Scarlet and they started making their way through the forest, running far away from the inn. Louis could now teleport them, but they needed to be safe before he opened the portal.

"It is all forest here, we can’t keep on going." Halting, Enoch relayed his observation, unwilling to follow the path anymore. It would be worse if they ended up in the hands of bandits.

With his state, he wouldn’t be able to fight off five of them before he fell. Damien was the only one strong enough to protect them, but with so many of them to protect, he might be at a disadvantage.

"I know of a cliff, I can open my portal there. Follow me," Suddenly remembering a safe place, Louis disclosed

Just when they began running towards the cliff, the witches had caught up to them, their cries of revenge slicing through the air of the forest.

"Shit, they are catching up on us," Damien said.

He could fight them off but that would only aggravate issues as they always multiplied. If there was one thing he knew about a team working in common, they would never stop fighting until they achieved what they wanted.

"We should be there soon," Louis relayed, increasing his speed.

Arrows were shot at them and they managed to evade some but one managed to hit Louis’s hand, making him fall to the floor.

"I am fine," he said, then removed the arrow, added pressure to the wound and started running again.

’I would be fine, I just have to get us out of here.’ He repeated, bracing his mind for their escape. If he failed, they were all going to die but he wasn’t ready to die.
