Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 117: Cinema
Chapter 117: Cinema
Within Damien’s chamber, the doctor was now tending to Aurora. Scarlet, her hand and attire, now stained with blood from supporting Aurora, leaned against the wall, silently weeping as she observed the pack’s doctor diligently working on Aurora.
Enoch had swiftly departed after placing Aurora on the bed, Scarlet presumed he had gone to address the culprits with Damien. Before leaving, she had felt his intense gaze on her that looked like worry. She wanted to approach him but didn’t know what to say. In addition, the situation was not one for emotions. Until Aurora regained consciousness, nothing else mattered.
"How is she?" Scarlet impatiently inquired from the doctor, who responded with a sigh that raised concern in Scarlet. She recognized that sigh all too well, and it rarely signified anything positive.
"Well, she has been left untreated for too long. Her body is rejecting the herbs," explained the pack doctor, checking Aurora’s pulse once more. Scarlet had been closely monitoring him, and it seemed he had checked her pulse seven times already. Somehow, she sensed the doctor was struggling with difficulties in treating Aurora.
"Find a way to administer the herbs to her, no matter what," Scarlet urged. She didn’t want to pressure the doctor, fearing it might lead to mistakes. Despite her attempt to sound composed, her words came out louder than intended.
"I am trying," the doctor retorted, sighing hopelessly. From the moment he entered the room and witnessed Aurora’s condition, he trembled. Merely looking at her, he sensed that her body was severely damaged beyond repair. The use of lethal weapons during her torture was interfering with his medication.
Already weakened, what could his herbs accomplish? Fear for his life prevented him from revealing the harsh reality of her fate. If she was willing to survive, she would, otherwise, her destiny lay in the hands of Goddess Selena.
"Then try harder!" Scarlet eventually yelled, unable to contain her anger. Tears flowed uncontrollably, her body shaking with anxiety. The ache in her heart reminded her of a time when she lost someone dear.
The doctor wiped the beads of sweat from his face with his handkerchief. The more he worked, the more he felt the proximity of his own death. Regardless, if she perished, he would too.
"Can I get warm water?" The doctor requested.
"Yes," Scarlet hurriedly replied, ready to do the doctor’s bidding just to get back her best friend.
Going into the bathroom, she opened the tap and secured small hot water from the water heater, then she mixed it with a little cold water.
"Thanks," receiving the bowl, the doctor said.
Outside the room
"What do you plan to do?" Enoch inquired of Damien, who stood by the mansion’s pool, lost in thought.
"My mind is blank," Damien admitted before turning to face Enoch.
"How is she?" Damien asked.
"I fear she might not be responding well to the medications," Enoch cautiously relayed, expecting Damien to lose his temper. To his surprise, Damien remained composed.
"Identify everyone involved in this and detain them, Aurora’s fate depends on them," Damien ordered, turning away. As much as he desired to exact revenge, he wanted Aurora to decide their fate. If she was too weak, he would handle it.
"Won’t you see her?" Enoch asked.
"No," Damien’s reply was firm. Now wasn’t the time to see her, he couldn’t afford losing his mind now, he had other things to do.
Enoch nodded, understanding Damien’s reluctance. He wasn’t going to press the matter, after all, he shared responsibility for Aurora’s predicament. If he hadn’t been tough on Damien, they might not be facing this crisis. But one question lingered in his mind, How could Damien sense Aurora’s emotions?
One week later.
"This is the most boring breakfast ever," Dave sighed, staring blankly at his food, feeling repulsed. Upon learning about the incident, he immediately returned to the pack, only to be greeted by this grim atmosphere. It had been over five days since his return, and the mansion resembled a somber sanctuary.
Damien was consistently occupied, Enoch was seldom seen in the mansion, and his mother, Theresa remained confined to her room. Aurora lingered in unconsciousness, showing no signs of waking up. The mansion had fewer maids and guards, as Damien had dismissed the majority of them. The process of hiring new staff was prolonged due to meticulous interviews.
To add to the complications, Charlotte had been moody since the incident, secluding herself in her room. Today, she planned to depart as her fiancé was temporarily back.
The more Dave pondered the state of the mansion, the more profound his sense of loneliness grew. There was no one to banter, argue, or collaborate with. If he had known this would be the outcome, he might have reconsidered leaving country X.
He sat alone at the dining table, thinking about Damien. Damien was becoming even more intimidating and reserved since the incident, which hindered Dave from going to tease him.
"Hey!"
The familiar sound of a voice startled him, pulling him from his thoughts. Looking up, he met Charlotte’s gaze.
"Hi," he replied, his voice lacking enthusiasm before realizing something.
"Aren’t you leaving?" He asked.
"Oh, that. Unfortunately, something came up, and Ronald won’t be able to make it today," she answered, sighing.
Dave found it challenging to express his emotions, feeling both happy and sad for her. He was glad she wasn’t leaving today but also saddened by her apparent unhappiness.
"Everything will be alright," was all he could muster. She smiled bitterly and served herself soup with potatoes before digging in. Despite not feeling well, he observed that she didn’t stop eating and finished her plate. He couldn’t forget her impeccable manners, maintaining decorum even in clumsiness.
"Why are you not eating?" She asked, noticing his gaze.
"I am full," he answered, and she frowned at his still-full plate, realizing he hadn’t eaten.
"I was thinking, would you like to go grocery shopping?" He blurted out, not entirely sure why he suggested it.
"Grocery shopping? Since when do you do that?" Charlotte was perplexed.
"Since now," he chuckled nervously, scratching his neck. Charlotte shook her head and continued eating.
"I am guessing that’s a no," he mumbled sadly, dropping his head.
"I can’t go out like this," she suddenly said, standing up from her seat. Dave mouthed an ’ohh,’ realizing she was still in her pajamas with disheveled hair. He hadn’t noticed until she stood up.
Clearing her plates, she left the dining table. Dave went to his room and dressed more appropriately before they finally left the mansion for grocery shopping, or as Dave called it.
"Aren’t you a bit overdressed for grocery shopping?" She remarked, raising her brow at him.
"What? I need to uphold my reputation. Besides, we are moving out of the pack, I need to look good," he answered, prompting Charlotte to roll her eyes. She had almost forgotten the kind of man he was, cheesy and promiscuous.
Looking at her, Dave furrowed his brow when he considered that she might have the wrong idea about "looking good."
"I don’t mean looking good for them, I just want to look good," he clarified. It wasn’t precisely what he intended to convey, but he chose to keep quiet to avoid spoiling the day at its onset.
"Look good, huh?" Charlotte teased, laughing before gazing out of the window. Witnessing her laughter after a prolonged period of sadness was comforting, she had been drowning in sorrow since his return.
He opened the window, and she extended her hand, relishing the cold wind blowing against her.
"Woooohooo," she expressed, feeling at ease in the ride.
Dave followed suit by opening his window, emulating her by extending his hand. Strangely, he found it surprisingly comfortable and caught himself shouting, "woohooo."
Charlotte found it endearing, and they both burst into laughter. Charlotte shouted again, and Dave mimicked her. The playful exchange continued until Charlotte dozed off inside the car.
Minutes later, they arrived at their destination. However, instead of a supermarket, Dave had brought them to a cinema, a prospect that unnerved Charlotte in the human world.
Her mother had been killed by humans, and her brother had sternly warned her about them. Although Dave was unaware of these details, she didn’t want to spoil the mood and decided to go along with it. After all, Dave was with her, so she would be fine.
"What’s wrong?" Dave seemed to notice her tense expression and inquired.
"This is not a grocery market," she diverted the topic, questioning. Fortunately, it worked, as Dave appeared guilty for his little white lie.
"I am sorry, I just wanted to take you out so you could feel better. I didn’t mean to say grocery shopping, I was just so tense that it came out suddenly," he explained, and to his surprise, she burst into laughter. Wasn’t she just upset about being brought here?
"It’s fun teasing you. I needed a break. Thanks!" She said, alighting from the car. Dave did the same, locked the car, and they began walking into the cinema.
"So what are we watching?" She asked.
"You will see," he smirked in response.
