Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night
Chapter 107: Changing his mind

Chapter 107: Changing his mind

After ending the call, Enoch made his way into Damien’s office, the room devoid of light as they had been immense in setting things right since they arrived. The curtains were drawn, with only a bulb lighted as a source of light.

Dave was peacefully sleeping as he couldn’t take working anymore, and decided to take a break. Meanwhile, Damien didn’t look like he was tired or stressed, he was perfectly working under pressure. Sometimes, Enoch couldn’t fathom how Damien found it easy to work no matter the circumstances.

Thanks to the unexpected crisis, he would have forgotten the type of man Damien was. The workaholic alpha.

"I suppose you have something to say?" Getting uncomfortable under Enoch’s intent gaze, Damien asked, prompting Enoch to walk up to him.

"I thought you didn’t notice me," Enoch teased, trying to avoid explaining why he was staring at Damien without saying anything.

"Well, you and Dave can relate when it comes to that," Damien always found a way to gain the upper hand whenever they engaged in banter. Enoch almost rolled his eyes at how sensitive he was over such a little tease. Sometimes he felt bad for Aurora, how did she handle such a man like him?

And speaking of Aurora, "Hurray, your lover is safe and in the mansion. Satisfied?" He notified him, emphasising the fact that he was right after all.

"Alright," Damien sounded like he wanted to say something, but he made his reply curt and dismissed Enoch.

There was this stinging feeling that wouldn’t give him peace of mind. He was sure something was going on in the mansion, but what if it turned out that Aurora was fine?

He had never been so conflicted about someone, why was he so worried about her? Should he have brought her along? Then it would not have him worrying this much.

Remembering the last time he was with her, he wondered if she knew who dropped her to the bed after she slept off.

That warm feeling he felt when she clasped his hands while laying her on the bed was still lingering in his mind. It seemed like she was having a bad dream and it pained him to see her struggling knowing that he was part of what was causing her pain. But how could he make things right if she didn’t like him? How could he claim her as his if she didn’t want him?

Absentmindedly, he slammed his fist against his desk jolting Dave up from his slumber.

"Someone is trying to take a nap here," grumbling, Dave complained, rolling his eyes at his annoying brother. From the expression on Damien’s face, he must be worried about Aurora. Has Enoch not gotten back to him?

"Hey Beta, why is your Alpha looking mad?" Facing Enoch who was focused on his work, he rudely asked.

"He is right in front of you, ask him." Not looking up to meet his gaze, Enoch replied and continued what he was doing.

"I know that, answer me bozo!" And that was how their usual banter started.

Frustrated, Damien soon left his office leaving them behind to continue. He found his way to roof of the building, seeking solace in the cold air. He stood there for a hour but wasn’t able to get Aurora off his mind.

This wasn’t going to work, he needed to get back to his beta, so he asked.

’How much work do we have left?’ Mindlinking him.

’Well, thanks to your speed. We have approximately 300 paperworks to rectify,’ Enoch relayed.

’Good, I have seven days more to spend here. I would have to leave you guys if there are still more works to do.’ He said.

’You are still worrying about her?’ Enoch asked.

’I am not worried, I just want to be careful.’ He lied.

’Why is it so hard for you to acknowledge your feelings for her? Do you think annuling the contract is the best?’ Enoch had been wanting to confront him and now was the best chance.

’I am doing what is right for her,’ he replied, sounding so sure that he was truly doing the best for her.

’Really? Then let her go and stop acting like an obsessed crush.’ Enoch spat out, infuriating Damien who was already frustrated as it is.

’You don’t command me,’ Damien warned in a small growl and hanged up on Enoch. It was rare to see Enoch go against him, and it all started after Scarlet resurfaced in Enoch’s life. Anyone with a mate would normally feel bad and not want to hurt them, it all makes sense that he was acting as such.

What was really bothering him was the feeling of emptiness in his heart. He couldn’t brush off the feeling that screamed danger in his heart. What was even more annoying was the fact that he could feel an emotion that wasn’t his, which was unusual. He only knew about mates feeling their partner’s emotions, what could this mean?

It could not be! He had been with Aurora for over a month and he didn’t feel the bond or a spark between them. She couldn’t be his mate and he was sure of that, but what could be happening?

The emotions weren’t his as he wasn’t in danger like the emotions portrayed. Or could it be because he didn’t want to let go of Aurora, and was afraid of losing her? It was either that or something was definitely wrong.

This feeling wasn’t a feeling he should ignore and he knew that. If it turns out that Aurora was in danger, he couldn’t guarantee the lives of those endangering her life. His mother didn’t hate Aurora and even if she did, she wouldn’t dare hurt Aurora, because she is aware of his possessiveness about her.

It is now left with Sarah and her mother, who had the opportunity to hurt Aurora now that he was gone. The Elders were entirely satisfied with Aurora’s presence, because they saw her as an obstacle against their planned marriage for him.

If the Elders were involved in hurting Aurora, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill them, as he already made it clear that Aurora was his and off limits.

He would really enjoy getting rid of Sarah and her mother if they were responsible, as he had been waiting for them to make a mistake. It was just, there was a sacrifice for getting rid of them and that might have to be Aurora.

*Hiss*

He hissed at the thought of seeing scars on her body. Everything was going to be back to normal once he was back, he was going to make her his even if she didn’t want it. He was done considering her will because of the fear of losing her.

Bringing out his phone, he opened a chat and texted. ’I have changed my mind, I am leaving in four days time.’

’What? That is absurd!" Enoch replied just as soon as the message came in. Had Damien been drugged with a love portion? Why was he so worried about Aurora that he was neglecting his first rule, work first.

’There is nothing absurd about whatever decision I make.’ Damien texted back.

’Why not send someone down to the pack then, if you are so worried about her?’ Enoch texted.

’I cannot trust whatever information other people give.’ Damien answered.

’Other? So you do not believe your beta’s information?’ He asked, referring to the confirmation he relayed earlier. Remembering his expression after relaying the information, he suspected Damien wasn’t satisfied with it and wanted to say something else. Now he was sure Damien wasn’t satisfied with the confirmation. Maybe he should have requested stronger evidence to convince Damien that Aurora is fine.

Moreover, Theresa’s weird remark during the call made him feel uneasy. It was like she was trying to hide something, and was also feeling bad about something. He knew Theresa well and he was sure she was hiding something. Knowing the type of man her son was, would she be bold enough to lie about Aurora’s well-being?

The only way was checking up on the pack, which was going to affect the work they were dealing with currently. He found himself tied between accepting the wish of his Alpha or denying his friends emotions.

Who knew the workaholic Alpha would one day lose himself because of a woman? It was funny how most things worked at times. The same man he dedicated his life to was finally changing his ways.

If only he gave his mate the same attention Damien was giving Aurora, they would have been nurturing their second child.

’What I do not believe in is people. She is not safe with them.’ He said, not denying the fact that he couldn’t trust the people in the pack.

Well, Enoch knew Damien was still not comfortable with Sarah and only wanted to speed up the marriage process because he was too arrogant to accept his feelings for Aurora.
