Chapter 31: Prepped For Departure
Chapter 31: Prepped For Departure
Jared whooped. "Wait, like—romantically?"
Felix laughed. "You mean the ancient ruin of romance is real?"
Leo fake-fainted into Callum’s arms.
Callum caught him. "Scandalous."
Lance piped up, "Is that why there’s a ruin? You ruined it?"
Seraphina groaned and covered her face. "It was a training mission, not a honeymoon!"
Jared smirked. "But did you kiss?"
"No," Seraphina said too quickly.
"Yes," Aldric said at the same time.
The children howled.
"Was there moonlight?"
"Were you naked?!"
"Jared!"
"Just asking!"
Evelisse covered her face. ’Please stop talking.’
Lucien blinked. "You never mentioned this place."
"It wasn’t on any map," Aldric said quietly. "Not the ones we use now. It was abandoned for years. I—"
"He proposed there," Seraphina cut in, flustered.
Evelisse peeked between her fingers.
Jared gasped. "On the beach?!"
Leo whooped. "This place just became legendary!"
Callum clapped. "We must write a song about this!"
Felix murmured, "I could paint it..."
Jared added, "Now I can’t stop picturing you two young and passionately—"
"NO!" Evelisse yelped, covering her ears.
"Jared, enough!" Lucien snapped.
Marcus covered her with his towel like a protective cloak. "Let us not traumatize the princess."
Too late.
She was bright red.
’I did not need this mental image,’ she thought. ’Why did I hear their love-making the other day—’
"Stop," Fluffy whispered. "Stop rewinding the memory. That’s illegal."
"But—"
"You’re seven. And your brain is being inappropriate."
She turned her face toward the sky. ’Curse this reincarnated teenage memory.’
Lucien cleared his throat. "You approve of the location?"
Aldric looked at Seraphina.
Then nodded slowly. "Yes."
"Very much," Seraphina added, her voice soft.
Evelisse exhaled.
It was done.
They approved.
Her brothers clapped, whooped, and began stretching in exaggerated poses.
"So," Jared said, elbows waving wildly, "can we get the full story?"
"No," Aldric muttered.
"Yes," Seraphina said at the same time.
Aldric groaned. "Fine. But no interruptions. Not a single one."
Evelisse raised her hand solemnly. "I shall be as silent as the moon, Father."
Lance raised his hand too. "I make no such promise."
"Me either," Leo grinned.
"Chaos children," Marcus muttered.
Aldric sighed. "Very well. We shall make preparations."
Jared grinned. "Do we get to ride into romance?"
"Don’t push it, Jared." Lucien warned.
"I’ll allow it," Aldric muttered, walking away with Seraphina in tow.
And with that—
The entire royal family marched back toward their room.
Together.
With the aim—Azure Bay.
And the beginning... of something more.

The morning sun filtered through the tall stained-glass windows, scattering rainbows across polished floors like it, too, was excited for their departure.
A gentle buzz filled the halls of the palace—quiet excitement that had nothing to do with state business and everything to do with an adventure.
Their luggage had already been packed—courtesy of three dozen palace attendants, two maids who swore by lavender-scented folding methods, and one aggressively organized guard captain who insisted on double-knotting the royal family satchel.
Evelisse stood at the steps of the East Pavilion, holding Snugglewuff’s leash as if her life depended on it.
"Please, I beg thee—just enter like a noble beast," she whispered through gritted teeth.
Snugglewuff, however, had decided that the royal travel carriage was a harbinger of doom. He planted his paws, fluffy behind sticking out, dragging Evelisse back a step with every growl.
"Snugglewuff," she hissed under her breath. "You are embarrassing the crown."
Fluffy appeared above her shoulder, floating lazily. "Maybe he thinks it’s a monster. It does look like a mechanical pumpkin with legs."
The grand royal carriage did look a bit magical—it shimmered like morning dew on silver vines, drawn by four snowy Kirin beasts with glistening horns. Magic pulsed beneath the wheels, keeping the carriage floating slightly off the ground. It had been prepared specially for their journey—Azure Bay awaited.
The carriage’s door swung open.
"Need help, little sister?" Leo called from inside.
"She’s fine," Marcus said, sipping from a flask of lemon tea. "She’s negotiating."
"I am not—oh fine, maybe a little." Evelisse exhaled and crouched beside Snugglewuff. "I have chicken jerky."
Snugglewuff paused.
"I’ll also let you sit next to the window."
His ears twitched.
"And maybe... I’ll share my pastry."
The pup licked her hand once and pranced into the carriage with royal grace. Evelisse followed behind, cheeks puffed in mild irritation. "So dramatic."
As she stepped in, the air inside the carriage was cool and fragrant with hints of cinnamon and citrus. Soft cushions lined the benches, and enchantments had turned the interior into a space larger than it should be—like stepping into a cozy sunroom that glowed with travel-laced anticipation.
Everyone was already seated, dressed in clothes meant for movement—soft trousers, tunics, boots, and matching bands bearing the kingdom’s crest.
King Aldric wore a crisp dark tunic with a travel cloak flung over one shoulder. Somehow, even dressed simply, he looked like he had walked straight out of a bard’s tale.
Jared whistled. "Father, if you weren’t a King, I’d say you’re auditioning for lead romantic hero."
Seraphina chuckled beside him, radiant in a flowy white blouse tucked into soft slacks. Her hair was in a braid crown, and she looked more goddess than queen.
"Mother," Felix breathed, "you look like the moon dressed up for summer."
Seraphina smiled, then looked at Evelisse. "And you, sweetheart, look like the very breeze that blesses our journey."
Evelisse beamed. "Thank you, mommy."
Leo leaned back. "Alright, full family present, magical pup inside, tension from the love confession yesterday still thick in the air—can we start this legendary trip now?"
Aldric nodded and the carriage began to move, the kirin’s hooves barely touching the ground as soft pulses of light carried them forward.
The forest path glittered under the golden sun. Trees bent gently as if bowing to the royal family passing through. They moved like a dream—royal siblings and their parents heading toward a place lost in time.
Felix handed Evelisse a small basket filled with wildflowers. "Want to learn to braid crowns with these?"
Evelisse nodded. "Please."
His fingers moved with gentle precision, picking soft lavender and coral blooms.
"Like this," he said, looping stems with quiet ease. "See? Twist, pull, fold."
Evelisse followed, her tongue sticking slightly out in concentration.
"It’s like weaving a memory," Felix said. "Something you’ll wear and remember."
She smiled. "That’s beautiful."
Jared, however, was not having it.
"Enough flower poetry. It’s time for the real story."
"Not again," Aldric groaned.
