Chapter 309: Soul Introspective
Chapter 309: Soul Introspective
When I woke up, I didn’t exactly wake up. More rather my consciousness just fell deeper into itself, and I found myself within a deep part of my soul that I was somewhat familiar with.
It was the part of my soul with the two remnant souls residing in it. The place where Nachash and Ouroboros were.
I belatedly realised that I had no idea why or where either of these two being came from, and why I even know who Nachash even is.
Obviously it was related to my sealed memories, but why was that one of the few things that I could recall?
I’m not getting any answers here, so there’s no point thinking about it now. Probably going to forget about this later though.
Anyways, now that I was here, I could see something that I did not expect to see here.
And it was the evil spirit that I had devoured into my own soul. I was supposed to be devouring him right now, what was it doing here?
"Ah, you did show up." Nachash said warmly as he looked towards me, looking a lot more defined and solid.
Ouroboros was similar, in that I could make out more details along his body.
"Yes, I’m surprised that she’s here at all. We’ll probably never know what exactly the reason for this occurring is, but it’s welcome whenever it happens." Ouroboros’ voice reverberated lightly throughout my mind in its deep and mystical tone.
"Yeah, guess we’ll never know..." I agreed with his sentiment as there seemed to be no apparent cause for this happening again. There was a bit of awkward silence until I pointed and asked, "So, what exactly is that thing doing here?"
"Hmm? This thing?" Nachash curled his large body to look back at the many crazed spirit whisps that was the evil spirit that possessed Asty. "Don’t know. It just kind of appeared."
I groaned in annoyance, "Uuggghhh... Please don’t tell me it’s going to be staying here forever? I don’t want another ancient spirit stuck inside of me."
"Are you saying you don’t want us here?" I felt myself shake at Ouroboros’ words despite this being my own soul and there being no physical matter here. Probably just how my soul processed his words.
"No, no, it’s not that. I just don’t want that thing in particular to take up residence within me like you two have. I was going to simply devour its essence and add it into my own soul but I don’t think I can do that now that it’s here."
"I see... Weee... Might be able to help?" Ouroboros suggested sceptically, as if he didn’t believe his own words.
Even Nachash was shocked by these words. "We can?"
The both of us looked towards the infinitely long blue soul remnant and waited for his explanation as to what he meant exactly.
"I believe... This is a deity. A God from an era long gone..." We waited for him to say more, but that appeared to be all he had to say.
"That’s it? A hunch of this... thing, being a deity? What give off that vibe?" Nachash questioned sceptically as he stared inquisitively at the larger blue serpent.
And in response to that, Ouroboros simply replied with, "I have seen many Gods and Goddesses when I was alive."
...
"That explains nothing." I pointed out before I went on to clarify, "You can’t just say that and not explain how that correlates to the current situation. What does seeing many Divine entities have to do with the current situation?"
"Well, having met all these deity’s, I know what Divinity looks like in many different ways and in many different aspects. This thing, has a spark of divinity in it."
"Probably just a mark or something from its supposed master that it kept calling out to when it was possessing my friend." I remarked rather spitefully. I don’t care who or what its master was, or if I offended it. They could both burn in hell for all I cared. And father would make sure of that if I really asked for it.
"No. I would be able to tell. I’ve met messengers of the divine also, and there’s a very clear difference between the two. This is a spark of a Divine concept, not the mark of one. There is a difference, trust me." Ouroboros stated with immense confidence.
"And what exactly are we supposed to do with this information?" Nachash pressed Ouroboros further.
"We could try and awaken the God within. It won’t be the same as what you knew it to be before. Trust me, I’ve seen something like this before. As hard to believe as that is, it is true."
I was hesitant to actually do this, mainly because I was still feeling hateful towards it. And the both of them could see this.
"Listen, if it turns out I’m wrong, we can just tear it to shreds and you can devour it then."
"But how? How would we do either of those things?"
Nachash then explained, "I’m not sure about the former, but for the latter option, you should just be able to bite it to pieces and devour it in here. This isn’t exactly a subspace within your soul after all, it’s more of a subspace connected to it within your own consciousness."
"Oh, I never knew that. I always assumed that this was some sort of pocket space within my soul."
"Ehhh... Yes and no in that regard. It is a part of your soul, but only because you’re here. Once you leave, it will be locked away again until you come back. It’s hard to explain." Nachash clarified, but very poorly as even he didn’t seem to quite understand what this place was.
Then I looked towards Ouroboros, wondering if he had an explanation for his initial idea.
Nachash did the same, both of us wondering just what he had in mind. "Well? Explain your brilliant plan."
It would seem that there is some conflict between the two, which isn’t surprising considering they basically have to live together. They’re bound to not like each other eventually.
That or they just naturally don’t like each other and only get along for my sake.
"..." Ouroboros stayed silent for a while before he finally speaking up about his idea.
"We could try and awaken the divinity of the God. It would awaken the god rather than the mind that inhabits the form. Worst case scenario, it goes wild and we just have Traytora eat it."
"But how? How do we do such a thing? You’re saying what we have to do, but not how to do it." I complained, as that was basically what he said earlier.
"It- ... I don’t know how to explain it, or if I even can. But I can do that part myself. I’ve made a few Gods myself in my prime." He boasted pridefully.
"Okay... But why would we even bother doing that? What’s the point of awakening the God?" I asked as I realised there was no reason to do so.
Even if someone or something else was controlling what remained of its existence, I’d still hate them for what they did and letting it come to that.
"That’s a good question, what do we gain from this?" Nachash agreed with my thoughts and stared at Ouroboros sceptically once more, wondering why he suggested such an idea.
And to that he said, "..."
Nothing.
He had no response.
But just before I berated him, he said this, "We could give the God to your friend, with restrictions of course. That way, we give her a natural barrier to prevent this from happening again."
I squinted at the behemoth suspiciously. "I feel like you’re just saying this to escape the consequences of something else."
Ouroboros remained silent at my words and just waited for me to decide, since it was ultimately my decision in the end. They would help me no matter what direction I chose to go.
And despite my scepticism, I decided to go with giving the God to Asty, because who knows how many more of these things this Master has. Maybe they’ve already formed a link between themselves and Asty thanks to this initial incident and can do it again.
*Sigh* "Let’s awaken the God then." I sighed reluctantly.
"Very well. You may want to stay back, as this could cause harm to your soul." Ouroboros warned as he moved to wrap himself around the wild and pulsing essence that once was the evil spirit.
He left some space between his body and the writhing mass of spiritual essence, which now that I was looking at it properly, looked like it was just a bunch of jumbled up lines that made up a soul.
They looked undefined and foggy, as if the soul itself hadn’t taken proper form yet.
I was about to say something when Nachash came and coiled himself around me, likely in an attempt to shield me from any potential shockwaves.
And then Ouroboros began.
