A Serpent's Tale -
Chapter 310: Re-Awakening
Chapter 310: Re-Awakening
A few seconds after Nachash blocked my soul off from Ouroboros with his own ethereal body, the process began.
I could still see since our bodies were mad from interconnecting lines of light with nothing between, so I could clearly see what Ouroboros was doing.
That didn’t mean that I was in danger or anything. No, Nachash would still protect me, because even though there was nothing there between those lines, it was still a solid thing, just intangible to one’s vision is all.
But even though Nachash was blocking me from the shockwaves of whatever Ouroboros was doing. It still blew past me like a stormy wind, even though such a phenomenon shouldn’t be possible here.
Either way, whatever the ancient blue serpentine was doing, seemed to be working, as a golden spark within the writhing whisps started to spark like the start of a fire.
That spark soon started to grow and spread into the chaotic mass of wispy dark crimson tendrils, slowly turning them white with a hint of icy blue.
It took a while but eventually the scrambled mess soon became a lot more defined, and it took on the appearance of a serpent, just like Nachash and Ouroboros, albeit smaller.
A lot smaller in fact. Smaller than me actually. Why was it so small?
Its appearance was completely visible, unlike the other two, who were somewhat foggy, and faded towards the back end of their body from their size.
I could see the both of them more clearly and further along the two than before though. But this thing was tiny. Is this what serpents were like in this "old world" or whatever people keep talking about?
Whatever, not important right now.
What was important was how the tiny white serpent opened what constituted for its eyes in this place, which were golden like mine. Hey why weren’t Nachash’s and Ouroboros’ eyes different to their colours? Surely they should be different to their primary colours, right?
Or is it exactly because they are merely remnants that they aren’t like that?
"Wh-Where am I? What’s happening" The small white snake asked in a panic, clearly confused.
"You’re inside of a sub-soulscape of sorts. Hers to be exact." Ouroboros explained slowly.
The little God-Snake scrambled to make sense of its situation.
"W-Wait? L-Lord Ouroboros?" He suddenly exclaimed as he processed one piece of information.
"Do I know you?" The much larger blue serpent asked bluntly.
The white one didn’t seem to be offended by that though, "N-No my lord... I don’t think you would at least... B-but I know you!"
"I’m not surprised." Ouroboros replied flatly, expecting such a response.
"I-I’m one of the f-few snow serpent deities! The uh..." It seemed to have forgotten his own identity. "I’ve forgotten my name... Oh lord! I ’ve forgotten my own name! I’m so sorry lord Ouroboros!"
"It’s fine. Just tell us which region you hail from, that will be enough." Ouroboros was taking a rather lax approach to dealing with this supposed God.
But he was also dealing with it in a way that made him act somewhat like a king of sorts.
"Yes, my lord. I believe I hail from what is known as the American region." The God responded in fervour.
"America, huh? Do you remember roughly where you resided over there?"
"I’m afraid I can’t pinpoint the exact location, but somewhere north and inland roughly." The God answered.
"Hmm... What domain to you cover exactly? It’s obviously related to the cold, but anything in particular?" Ouroboros inquired further.
"Hmm... Snow and Frost mainly." The God gave a quick and concise answer.
"I see. What affinities does your friend have?" Ouroboros asked as he turned back to me.
"Uhh, ice?" I responded nervously, a little unsure of what exactly would happen next. I knew what direction it was going, just not how I’d get there.
"Then that’s that." Ouroboros stated matter-of-factly, without explaining anything like the cryptic entity that he was.
"We will form a covenant with him, forcing him into a kind of contract that will make him subservient to his new master."
""What?"" Both the God and Nachash simultaneously cried out in shock.
"A covenant? Are you serious?" Nachash question with some scrutiny, questioning his fellow serpent’s integrity with but a gaze.
As for the God in question, he was confused also, "L-Lord, are you sure it is necessary to form such a thing?"
Instead of answering either of the two, Ouroboros instead turned to me and asked, "Why don’t you explain what exactly happen before this, where this God came from?"
"Ah, right..." I had yet to actually explain that, so I did so, letting them know all about the possession that took place and my actions to thwart this ’Master’.
"Then I fell asleep to get some sleep and ended up here." I concluded my tale.
The three serpents remained silent.
The God reeling in shock about how he was used as but a mere tool, feeling his Godly pride hurt like that.
Nachash had no comment on the matter, since he was a demonic being himself. He likely had seen such things happen before. Hell, maybe he was the one who did these things.
And as for Ouroboros, he was contemplative about the whole ordeal. But in the end, he simply brushed it off and continued from his earlier point, before he had me explain all that.
"And now you know why a covenant is needed. It would look bad on us if we let that happen after bringing you back."
"What do you mean we? This whole operation was your idea in the first place!" Nachash snapped at the translucent blue remnant soul.
"You did not object." Ouroboros responded calmly.
"Tch." Nachash was clearly upset as he had no comeback to that.
Anyways, now that our next move was established, it was time to act upon it.
"You’re not making the covenant." Or so I thought.
It seemed that Nachash had formed a deep sense of distrust towards Ouroboros for some reason over time since I last saw them. How and why? I have a feeling I won’t get an answer to either of those questions. Not today anyways.
"I never had such an intention to. I’m having her make it instead, and then have her transfer it to her friend. I have no need for a covenant anyways, I wouldn’t gain anything from it anyways." He said rather melancholically with a downtrodden look.
Ouroboros sighed and started to form the covenant between me and the God snake. I don’t actually remember what happened as my mind got extremely blurry here.
But I did hear something about passing the ownership of the covenant onto another. I remember accepting some arbitrary terms and the God accepting more.
When it was done, I could vaguely hear them talking about something before my mind went to sleep, indicating that I was leaving this space. I didn’t catch what they were saying though, even though I felt it was something important.

I later woke up in Asty’s bed, having vague memories of what had happened within my soul. The memories of what happened were hazy and the details muddle together.
All I remembered was that I had to somehow transfer the covenant between me and that God over to Asty.
But when I turned to look at her, I saw that she was still exactly the way I left her before I went to sleep.
That being a set of eyes with a dead and absent gaze, as if she wasn’t awake but not dead at the same time.
It was like her soul was being repressed somehow from all the trauma. When I jostled her to wake her up, I heard Morrigan sigh.
"She won’t wake up, I tried a few times whilst you were unconscious, and nothing. It’s as if her soul is forcefully repressing itself deep into her own psyche."
"What? But how? And why?" I looked to her in worry and desperation, hoping to hear an answer from her.
"I’m afraid I don’t know exactly. It’s not uncommon for this to happen to people, and when it does, it’s typically some sort of trauma response. As for undoing it, the only way is to reawaken her soul somehow and remove the memories of it happening."
I felt my body twitch at her suggestion at the end there, likely in some form of disgust because I was in that situation myself, needing to have memories sealed away so that I could continue functioning like a normal person.
I didn’t want to put such a burden on someone else, but I also didn’t want to have Asty remain scarred for the rest of her life.
Though, all of that wasn’t really important right now, as we first had to awaken Asty from her repression, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to do anything. That, and her body would also slowly wither away until death.
