A Serpent's Tale -
Chapter 252: Passed
Chapter 252: Passed
I saw the glowing lights above others heads slowly turn green and red respectively, and soon, Morrigan reached the rest of us orphans.
The bitch annoyingly passed, as did one of her friends, the other failed.
Half the rest passed and the others failed. Leaving just me and little Asty left to receive our own results.
It felt like it was taking ages, and being intentionally drawn out but, Asty got her results.
And her orb turned green. She could barely contain her excitement and nearly burst out screaming had I not placed a hand on her shoulder and calmed her down.
Meaning I was the only one left to receive a result, besides the people behind us. We weren’t situated all the way at the back of the room.
I was now waiting in anticipation. I knew that I would get accepted regardless, but still, it was nerve racking all the same.
And after what felt like hours, the orb of light above me started to shine a bit brighter as it turned green.
I sighed a sigh of relief when it did, as it meant that I had passed the written, practical and or magic exams.
It didn’t take long for the rest of the applicants behind us to receive their results, and when they did, it was time for the people who saw through the foxes illusions to be declared.
I was the first one who received a golden floating orb above my head. This came as a shock to everyone else who was part of the orphanage group. And everyone else too but it left the former in more shock.
Except for Asty who quickly got ever it and gave me a big beaming, sparkling smile as she admired me.
As for the others, two more people who passed had their orbs turn from green to gold, and then the other two were people whom had failed to pass with their red orbs turning gold.
Then the headmaster came and took the centre stage once more. "With that, the results have now been given your results. If you passed, please stay. If you failed, worry not for you might still have another chance elsewhere, just see the attendants in the front about that."
There was a lot of grumbling as those that failed to pass slowly filtered out of the room, minus the two that saw through the illusions.
A few minutes later, when all of the people who had failed left the room, we were asked to congregate more towards the stage.
"Now, to all of you who have passed, I shall now explain how all of this will work. Since you have passed, you will have to think about what courses you will want to take. Next week, you may come in each day and look around at all the available courses which will be displayed on different days."
She explained how we could sign up for different courses but had a limited number of slots for courses that we could choose, and to be careful which ones we took.
After a few more words of welcome and such, explaining more about how our new lives here would work, she dismissed everyone who passed and asked everyone who saw through the old foxes illusions to stay behind.
Once everyone was gone, the headmaster asked us to follow her somewhere.
And the place she led us to was a small private meeting room where Morrigan and said fox were waiting.
Something about the fox felt familiar though, like I’d seen him before.
The five of us were asked to take a seat and relax as the old fox congratulated us.
"Greetings to you five. You have shown extraordinary potential for being able to see through that illusion, and so our organisation would like to offer you all tutelage as a reward. You may still attend the courses here if you wish alongside our private course."
I felt something fishy was going on with this old man.
The headmaster then added, "Yes, you will also be given a special status as prodigy’s, which will exempt you from having to attend class all the time, provided you study still and show up for future exams."
"So, we get an extra private tutor and a special status?" A young boy asked. He was wearing a cape that seemed to be designed for nobility. And his attitude suggested his upbringing making him a snobby brat.
"That is correct." Morrigan affirmed.
"Hmph. I have no need for such a thing so stop wasting my time."
"You failed the entrance exam." The headmaster stated bluntly.
"Geh- That doesn’t matter! And mind your tone around-"
"Silence! Your nobility doesn’t mean shit here, you’re just a squealing little brat who’s been fed a silver spoon his whole life. You are should not even be allowed in here because of all this." The headmaster snapped him shut and demeaned him for his behaviour and attitude.
And he could only suck it up or else he might have this chance revoked.
"What about you lot? Do you want to take this chance or not? It won’t affect you as this extra tutelage is optional." Morrigan butted in and moved the conversation along to what it should be.
"I do not wish to accept." I declined politely with a light bow.
"Mmm, that’s understandable. And the rest?"
The remaining three chose to accept this extra learning opportunity.
"Good. I will say though, unfortunately, we will only be able to teach you for five years at most, as we are here temporarily, but we will teach you three to the best of our abilities and make sure that you become true prodigies!" Morrigan declared that as an attempt to get their fires going.
And judging by the looks on their faces, it seemed to have worked as they looked determined to live up to these expectations.
"Now, with that out of the way, is there ay study you would like to learn in particular, because as prodigy’s, you may have an extra tutor to teach you more about said subject." The headmaster probed.
The noble kid stayed silent as he continued pouting with his arms crossed. I shook my head politely once more, since I already had a private tutor of sorts.
As for the other three, one of them asked for a mystic’s teacher, not quite sure what that was but the headmaster accepted, explaining that it might take a while to get one.
Another asked for an elemental teacher as they had access to the base four elements of magic, which were fire, earth, water and wind.
And the last one asked for a merchant, as they had a dream of being able to help the people in some way.
"Yes, we can get you all of those. And if you ever change your minds about a private tutor, you can always just come and see me or my assistant and we’ll be happy to help."
They were all glad to see that they got what they accepted, and after that we were dismissed and were told to follow the instructions and come back to see what classes we wanted to take next week.

That week came and went in a flash and I met up with my friends and brought them to my room to discuss things with them after the course sign up week ended.
"So, which classes did you two choose?" Ash prodded as she lazed on the sofa.
Asty went first and explained her choices, "I chose fire and Ice magic as my magic studies. I also chose to take history, writing and finance as my general studies and the last thing I chose was fitness."
"Ah I see, what about you?" David asked as he turned to face me with a light smile like he usually does with us.
"Well, I had a hard time deciding since I could do theoretically anything, but for my general studies I chose finance also, as well as an etiquette class."
"Really? Etiquette? You?" David questioned with a little scrutiny as he squinted his eyes at me.
"Yeah, I know, but I just thought it would be nice to know these things. Plus, it’s only a five-year course so it won’t take long. And I can then choose another course to take its place later if I want."
"I mean... Fair enough, I guess? Still though, seeing you take that type of class of all thing? Never saw that coming." Ash commented with some shock as she sat up to speak easier.
Asty seemed to have lost herself a bit as she stared at me with a dumb face that said she didn’t really understand what we just said.
So, she asked me about my other courses. "What about your other courses? Like magic, did you choose any of them?"
"Well, I had a hard time since I don’t actually know what I want to do with myself after all of this. Like, I’ve never had any idea of what I wanted to grow up to be. So, I spoke with the headmaster in private one day and asked if I could just come and sit in on a few classes until I figured it out and she said that was fine, so that’s what I’ll do."
