Chapter 73 - 72: Last Hour
Chapter 73: Chapter 72: Last Hour
"Oh!" Zoey quickly peaks around the door of the food storage room, startling the man which was sorting out the food a little.
"Could you tell Marlius to come to my office? Thanks." Zoey said as she quickly dissapeared from the door and walked over to her office, opening up the doors as she flopped down on her chair, letting out a long sigh.
’Tonight, I can’t fall asleep. I need to protect these people from the zombies.’ Zoey thought, her determination hardening. She didn’t know why, but she felt a bit responsible for these people, and wanted the best for them. Even though she didn’t know anything about them.
She was a bit worried though, did she manage to secure enough food for them? To her, it didn’t seem like enough.
As tommorow, was technically her last day in the Apocalypse, and she will have to leave these people behind. Who was going to protect them after they were gone? How are they going to find food for themselves? So many concerns appeared into her mind.
’Is there a way....to stop the Apocalypse?’ Zoey thought, but the answer seemed impossible. Dungeons would always appear after one would get cleared sometime after, and without Hunters to clear them, monsters would pour out like this.
’Do I need to start clearing dungeons?’ Zoey thought, but quickly dismissed the idea. There wasn’t enough time, and if she wasn’t here, then her people would be in danger. She could only help but hope that they could survive when she’s gone.
A knock from the door distrupts her thoughts, as she quickly shifted and straightened her posture. She placed her hands on the desk, and leaned forward a little.
"Come in." Zoey said, and the door opened to reveal Devon standing there, a small look of confusion, and subtle curiousity etched on his face.
"You called for me, Miss?" Devon asked, raising an eyebrow.
Zoey didn’t reply as she only smiled, extending her hand. In the next moment, a soft glow erupted from her hand, and a beautiful cake appeared in her hand, shocking Devon as his eyes widened upon seeing it.
"Here, you can have this." Zoey said, smiling warmly.
"A-are you serious?" Devon asked, disbelief evident in his tone, his voice a bit cracked as he could feel heat building under his eyes.
"Yes, I’m serious. This is for your daughter, now you guys can celebrate properly. Tell her I said happy birthday." Zoey said.
Devon’s eyes were on the brink of tears, he couldn’t afford a cake for his daughter before, as Marlius wouldn’t let them have one. But seeing Zoey give him this cake, warmed his heart as he could finally grant his daughter’s wish.
"Thank you..." Devon said as he grabbed the cake from her hand, a tear down his cheek, sobbing slightly.
"You’re welcome." Zoey replied.
Devon exited the room, he couldn’t wait to suprise his daughter with the cake Zoey had gotten for them. He was grateful for Zoey’s gift, and would never forget her kindness in this ruined world.
"I should head to the walls." Zoey said, standing up from her chair as she stretched a little. It was time she headed to check out for zombies or any sorts of danger, and quickly deal with them.
Zoey exited the mansion as she walked towards the massive walls, and leaped high onto them with [Grace Of The Wind], landing gracefully at the top. The night sky, with it’s crimson moon and smoke and ash filling the atmosphere, was still beautiful in it’s own, horrific way.

’Looks like they’ll be getting stronger in a minute.’ Zoey thought, breaking a small sweat at the side of her face. The zombies were already becoming really powerful, already being at C-Rank. They were extremely strong, had skills, and were only going to continue getting stronger.
There were still eight hours left before the Apocalypse was going to end, which meant that the zombies were still going to get buffed 8x during that time. She just hoped that the monsters at the end wouldn’t be too tough to deal with.
If she were to go all out, she would be able to take on a B-Rank monster, as she herself was a B-Rank. A-Rank and S-Rank were realms she was certain she wouldn’t be able to take on.
Zoey observed the zombies as the time indicator passed another hour, seeing a powerful red aura wrapping around them, increasing their power as they let out horrified screams, and their speed increased faster.
’Here we go.’ Zoey said as she leaped off the walls, and descended onto the ground with a powerful crash, breaking the ground beneath her. Her hand glowed as [Volt Requiem] appeared in her grip, crackling with thunder.
Zoey dashed towards the zombies, leaping high into the air as she crashed her thunderous sword upon them.
Slash!
-------------
The sun rose over the horizon, it’s crimson, horrifying rays lighting up the ash sky. The ground was soaked in blood, zombie corpses laying spread all around the ground, and Zoey standing ontop a massive heap of them, catching her breath.
The entire night was spent with battling zombies, and with each hour that passed, the battles kept becoming more tougher and tougher, requiring more effort and power to be drawn from her Skills.
Her biggest helpers were [Hardened Will], [Grace Of The Wind], [King’s Fury], [Concentration Breathing], and [Armour Weathering]. [Armour Weathering] really came in handy when it came to finishing off enemies quicker, and making the battles more easier.
The only hassle it had was that it could only impact a single target at a time, and not multiple at once, so she had to repeatedly spam it, and recover her Mana with [Concentration Breathing].
[Time Remaining: 01 Hours, 03 Minutes, 01 Seconds]
’The zombies have become really hard to deal with.’ Zoey thought, grabbing her shoulder. She had gotten a terrible bite wound from a hound, and while the damage that was dealt wasn’t much because of her [Earth Skin] and [Hindering Earth] Skills, it really did disorient her and almost put her in grave danger.
’Atleast the hound wasn’t poisonous or infected like the zombies are.’ Zoey thought, glancing at the bandages wrapped out her shoulder.
She looked ahead of her, and saw so many zombies and monsters running towards the mansion, like a army out for blood.
The henchmen at the mansion were terrified, they could feel the insane power of the monsters, as the ground trembled with the force of the monsters, they could only hope that Zoey would be able to overcome the enemies, as their weapons weren’t effective anymore.
"That’s so much..." Zoey thought, the enemies were very far away, and were rapidly approaching as they could now match her in terms of speed. She glanced back at the mansion with gritted teeth, she wasn’t certain whether she’d be able to protect it anymore.
Some of the enemies managed to deal incredible damage to the walls, cracks and broken holes adorned the walls, it was a miracle that the wall was still standing at this point. But she was certain that one more attack, would destroy the wall, and put everyone in danger.
"DEVON!!!" Zoey yelled as she looked up at him from above the wall, her voice echoing.
"EVACUATE EVERYONE, TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE FAR AND SAFE FROM HERE!!!"
Devon’s eyes widened as he heard her words. Evacuate? She wanted them to evacuate and leave her behind? They couldn’t do that! She’d die if she were to take on that whole army, and he couldn’t let that happen, even if his attacks were ineffective, he would fight.
He quickly ran down the walls and ran up to Zoey, his eyes wide but full of courage.
"Zoey, where would we go? It’s too dangerous to go anywhere without yo-" Before Devon could say another word, Zoey silenced him as she put a hand over his mouth, glaring into his eyes, her crimson eyes glowing.
"There’s not enough time! At any moment the monsters will reach us! The wall is damaged, one more attack, and you’ll all die! I won’t be able to protect you all right now, I need you to go somewhere far! Please!" Zoey yelled, her voice full of rage and a bit of worry as she told him that.
Devon looked at her in horror, his gaze falling on her wounded shoulder. Zoey sighed as she lowered her hand from his mouth, glancing over her shoulder at the monsters which were drawing near.
The final battle will be commencing soon, and she needed to go all out this time.
"I understand." Devon said, letting out a shaky breath. "Please, miss, survive." Devon said, running away as he quickly went to go evacuate everyone.
Zoey returned her gaze back to the monsters and zombies that were rapidly approaching, her gaze narrowing as she decided to go all out, it was finally time to use everything in her Arsenal.
’One more hour, then it’s all over!!’ Zoey thought, dashing forward with [Grace Of The Wind], the final battle was about to begin.
