Chapter 72: Chapter 71: The Lightning Reaper
Zoey snuck around the shelves carefully, the light of [Volt Requiem] shining on her face, humming softly. The sniffs and growls of the beast rang out, searching for her as it could track her scent.
The beast growled as it moved closer, it’s sharp fangs dripping with saliva as it approached the shelf Zoey was hiding behind. Zoey prepared herself to counter attack in a heart beat’s notice, clutching her sword tightly.
The beast dashed, roaring fiercely as it broke the shelf she was hiding behind in one powerful claw swipe, forcing Zoey to dodge the attack as she leaped backwards, her eyes narrowing as she studied the beast closely.
’It’s aura is blue, it’s still weak. I can take it on.’ Zoey thought to herself, using [Heightened Senses].
However, just as she was about to land on another shelf, the beast roared as it unleashed a powerful wind, a circular wind towards her, surprising her.
Zoey quickly avoided the attack the moment she landed on the shelf, jumping to the side as the wind ball slammed into the other shelfs, breaking them apart as broken pieces scattered everywhere.
’I should’ve expected that, as higher ranked beasts start to gain Skills too, just like Hunters.’ Zoey thought, looking back briefely at the destruction caused by the beast, before turning her attention back to it.
The beast charged at her this time, bearing its large teeth at her as it growled ferociously under it’s breath. Zoey didn’t stand around, she quickly dodged the attack of the beast, sidestepping it’s attack.
A powerful slash was delivered to it’s side, leaving a deep wound as well as electrocuting it, causing it to let out a pained roar from the powerful shocks of thunder that coursed through it’s body for a brief moment.
Zoey then followed up with another powerful slash, effectively killing the beast as it let out a pained cry, dying at the powerful effects of her sword.
"I was worried for nothing." Zoey sighed, looking at the beast’s corpse. But the moment she said that, the sounds of zombies rapidly approaching caught her attention as she quickly spun around, gritting her teeth at her bad luck.
The zombies barged in through the broken door, and some even through the walls with their absurd strength, trying to flank Zoey from all sides.
She planted her feet into the ground, before spinning around in a 360° circular rotation. Her sword flashed and crackled with powerful lightning, that stuck em all instantly upon coming in contact with her sword, killing them all immediately.
"I can’t keep wasting my time with you freaks." Zoey muttered to herself in frustration and mild annoyance, as she fought the remaining zombies.
After they were all killed and dealt with, Zoey didn’t waste anymore time as she decided to quickly move away from the shop, as staying in one place was just going to attract more enemies towards herself, and she didn’t have the time for that.
"I need to finish here and quickly make it back to the mansion, If I don’t hurry back in time, everyone will be in danger." She said to herself, immediately picking up her speed as she ran through the streets with fast speeds.
Zoey went on a raiding spree for a little while, breaking into shops, taking the food, facing zombies, and leaving immediately after a shop was emptied out. It felt a bit weird to steal from shops in the apocalypse, as there wasn’t anymore rules in this destroyed world, and nobody could really stop her.
"Hehehe, this is more than alot~" Zoey, who was sitting on a shelf, grinned with joy. Below her, a small mountain of zombies and beasts lied, her [Volt Requiem] sword stabbed deep into the back of a zombie.
She was looking at her [Inventory], which was full of food. She estimated that it should be enough to last them a few months if they use it sparingly, which is insane considering the amount of people she has to feed.
’It looks like some of the shops weren’t raided, as monsters and zombies are mostly crowded in those places, so no survivor would go there unless they have a death wish.
Especially with how strong the monsters have become now, I’m pretty sure that other survivors would have a serious hard time to even find a safe place to stay, let alone food, since the monsters can practically find them easier now that they bear some intelligence.’
Zoey thought, hopping of the shelf. She checked at the time that was remaining for the Trial to be over, and her heart immediately sank as she saw just how much time she wasted while looking for food.
[Time Remaining: 08 Hours, 32 Minutes, 49 Seconds]
’I wasted so much time! Almost half an hour is gone!’
Zoey’s heart raced as she immediately bolted out of the store, the ground cracking with the force of her power. Zoey’s hair flapped madly in the wind as she ran through the city, and towards the mansion base.
"Get out of my way!" Zoey yelled, her voice full of rage. She saw zombies and beasts charging towards her, she immediately activated [Hardened Will] and [King’s Fury], using them at full power as she started to butcher the zombies with [Volt Requiem], she was incredibly worried about the people back at the mansion.
’They’re making their way to the mansion,’ Zoey, soaring through the air by jumping up high with [Grace Of The Wind], looking at the mass amount of zombies that were running towards the mansion’s walls.
Thankfully, no zombie or monster had reached the walls yet, and that was a huge weight off her shoulders. While she was starting to fall to the ground, she started to rain fireballs down on the zombies and monsters, explosions ringing out left and right.
After that, she crashed down hard with her [Volt Requiem] sword, a massive spark of lighting slamming into the earth and electrocuting the zombies around her, as the [Volt Requiem] sword had an effect that chained the lightning to other zombies if they were next to each other.
Zoey fought the massive horde zombies and monsters, even though they were C-Ranked, she could still take them all on, thanks to her [Volt Requiem] Sword’s chain lightning effect, and the power of her [King’s Fury] and [Hardened Will]’s max level effects.
Normally, a recently promoted B-Rank Hunter would already get overwhelmed when such an outrageous amount of C-Rank monsters. Zoey was no different, but her level 100 Skills made her a beast of her own, as mastering a specific skill could take up to years depending on it’s rank.
"Haaah!" Zoey roared as she cleaved the final zombie into two, lighting following her blade closely in a beautiful arc.
"Pant...pant..." Zoey panted, her breaths heavy as she struggled to regenerate her stamina.
[Stamina: 15%]
’I...I need to work on this...’ Zoey thought, perhaps if she could get her hands on a skill similar to [Concentration Breathing], but for stamina instead, which would allow her to replenish her stamina insanely quickly. Especially considering if the Skill was maxed out, she’d practically never get tired in battle.
"100x stamina regeneration feels like an absolute cheat, hahaha." Zoey laughs, making her way to the mansion’s walls.
As she arrives, the guards immediately open the gates for her and welcome her back. She nods and walks straight into the mansion, and towards the room where the food was preserved.
A man was busy locking the door, as soon as he turned around, he jolted in suprise upon seeing Zoey standing behind him, covered in the blood and grime of her enemies.
"G-greetings Miss Zoey!" The man greeted her, a bead of sweat rolling down the side of his face.
"Open the door." She ordered.
"B-but..." The man was about to try and protest, reminding her that the food supply was almost finished, and there was only a little left. He was afraid that they would starve to death, but upon looking into the fiery depths of Zoey’s crimson eyes, the man lost all willpower, as he felt that if hunger wouldn’t kill him, then she will.
"O-okay..." The man replied in a defeated voice, fumbling with the keys before opening the door. The room was cold, as there an abundant of fridges that were used to freeze the food to preserve them for longer.
"Thank you." Zoey’s tone shifted, a smug grin forming on her face, her tone more sweet and cheerful. Confusing the man a bit.
She walked in a few steps, before stopping in the center of the room. The man watched her with curiosity, wondering why she suddenly stopped halfway.
Suddenly, she raised her hand, pointing it to the ground. Immediately, a ton of food supplies appeared out of thin air and crashed onto the ground, creating a ton of noise.
"There, that should last a while, don’t you think?" Zoey asked, looking over her shoulder to see the expression of the man, jaw dropped, eyes wide, a face full of shock and indescribable disbelief.
"I believe you’ll take on the task of sorting these items out nicely?" Zoey asked as she approached the door.
"O-of course! Right away miss!" The man said, quickly running to complete the task assigned to him.
’We have food! I can’t believe it! We have so much food! Hahaha!’ The man couldn’t stop grinning as he grabbed the foods and looked at them with shining eyes, his eyes full of hope and life.
’Screw Marlius! The Miss is the best! All hail Zoey!’
