Volume 15 Chapter 17: The Tournament

"Can't you just go along with my words?" Scarlet batting her eyes cutely at him. She was definitely a beauty that could save a nation; however, not to Keith.

What she got was a flick to the forehead, "Start talking before I walk out." Keith knew where the door was, and he was not afraid to use it.

Scarlet sighed, "Basically, there's a tournament where the winner gets to request whatever they want from the king." It was a simple battle tournament.

"So if he wins, he gets your hand in marriage?" Typical. Why am I not surprised about this?

“Yes.” Scarlet had a bright smile as she nodded, "If Draezar wins, he will ask for my hand in marriage." However, that smile soon dialed down and became dark, "He's someone who cannot become king."

"Bad?" Eri tilted her head.

"Yes. It's really bad." Lilith answered the child's question.

Red flags swayed in Keith's mind. For Lilith to say this person was bad was beyond anyone could imagine.

"Eh?" A  thought occurred. Wait, if Lady Lilith is saying this...

"Is there a need for the tournament? Can't we have the king stop all of this?" The king was Scarlet's father. He was the one who would decide who the successor would be. For Lilith to say this, the king should know what type of person he was. Why ruin the kingdom?

“...” The two were silent.

“Umm, Keith.” Lilith spoke up, “Draezar was supposed to marry Scarlet.” As she said this, she grabbed her head.

“What?” Keith blinked.

“Draezar is Scarlet’s fiancee. However, Scarlet hated the idea and never cared about him. That was why she invoked the tournament.”

"She could do that?" Wait a moment, she was the one who invoked the tournament?! Now that he remembered, it was accurate!

"Yes." Lilith nodded, "It's a tradition in the demon kingdom. The princess could invoke this tournament if she deems her fiancee unworthy."

"..."

"He doesn't care about me at all. The only thing he focused on is his work." Even when she invoked the tournament, Alastair had a calm and aloof expression as he agreed. No warmth or care were in those eyes. It was hollow like all the other times.

“...” Lilith had no words to say to help this situation. That was when Keith’s hands were placed on her head,

“Don’t worry about anything. I will handle it.”

Scarlet smiled as she held his hand onto her cheek, “I know you will.” She had absolute faith that he would overcome everything. Lilith watched as she calmly nodded. That’s the way you do it. She understood why her granddaughter was so infatuated with him.

“So when’s the tournament?”

“In a week.” Lilith answered, “We’ll have it at the stands.”

“Understood.” Keith smiled, “Then I will get some training done to do it.”

While Keith was getting flattered by Scarlet, Draezar returned home to his house. “Draezar, did the princess not say it?” Sarthos, the duke, asked.

“She’s going through with it, Father.” Draezar sighed, “That woman is only delaying the inevitable.”

“I see.” Sarthos was silent for a moment before telling him, “Don’t lose this.”

“Relax, Father.” Draezar waved him off as he took a bottle of wine, “Do you know who she chose as a champion? A human!” He laughed as he said this. What was this? A human? Was this some kind of joke?

“It doesn’t matter; I’m still going to win.” Draezar laughed as he downed the bottle of wine in one group.

“...” Sarthos didn’t say anything but allowed this to happen. But for a human. I need to look up to him. This was the first time he heard about this. And he wasn’t going to allow others to ruin this for him.
