Chapter 110: Protecting The Princess

Chapter 110: Protecting The Princess

Duke Glendale could sense the moment was ripe to get a bit more sympathy for Cassian from Arix. But before he could speak, he caught sight of Scion’s fierce glare.

Duke Glendale shut his mouth in fear.

’Misjudged.’ He’d forgotten the overprotective one was still here.

He might be able to fool Arix, but the second Scion caught wind of it, his plan would crumble.

In the Empire, severe injuries or even missing limbs were common. Cassian wasn’t even missing any limbs.

Duke Glendale shrank back, not daring to utter another word.

But Arix was oblivious to all this. Her anxiety was evident as tears formed in her eyes.

"You came to find me? Is it because I can save Cassian?" Arix asked, staring intently at Duke Glendale.

"Yes, exactly. Prince Cassian has Supergiant+ psychic powers, so regular healing potions won’t work. Admiral Thaddeus suggested finding you, so here I am." Duke Glendale dropped Admiral Thaddeus’ name to show he had her father’s approval, hoping to avoid any moral pressure on the young one.

He sneaked a glance at Scion’s face. Seeing him more displeased than before, he quickly looked away.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go!" Arix, filled with worry for Cassian, had forgotten about Scion in her haste.

"Arix," Scion finally spoke up.

Arix paused, then hurried over to Scion. She handed him all the potions she had just prepared.

"Scion, these are for Vice Admiral De’an and the others. Please give the potions to them. Also, I need to leave for a bit. If Sunak comes back, tell him I’m at the Imperial Nexus, at the palace." She explained before turning to leave.

But as soon as she turned, Scion grabbed the back of her neck.

Arix was shocked and puzzled.

"Scion? What is it?" Arix turned back and asked.

"Does Cassian really matter that much to you?" Scion asked, eyes lowered to hide his expression.

Arix nodded firmly, "Cassian is my best friend. He’s hurt, and I’m very worried. So, I must go. Also, if you were the one that’s gotten hurt, I’d do the same for you."

Hearing her words, Scion’s eyelashes trembled. He quickly let go of her neck, as if burned, and turned away to hide his reaction. He coughed, "Alright, I understand. But I’ll go with you."

Arix was momentarily surprised but then nodded, thinking Scion didn’t want her to go alone. She didn’t think much more about it.

While Arix didn’t think much of it, Duke Glendale, well-versed in matters of the heart, noticed Scion’s reddening ears.

Duke Glendale’s pupils suddenly shrank. He swallowed hard, realizing he might have stumbled upon a shocking secret. ’Could it be that Admiral Scion was falling for Arix?No way!’

He had to inform Cassian. He couldn’t let his poor prince suffer both physically and emotionally. It was his duty to safeguard the Empire’s future princess.

Duke Glendale’s eyes lit up with a newfound sense of justice. At that moment, he felt like the beacon of righteousness shining on the mothership. He vowed to defeat the evil admiral and protect the weak, innocent princess for his ailing prince.

"What are you standing there for? Aren’t you rushing to save Prince Cassian?" Scion was already holding the young one, ready to leave.

After taking a few steps, he noticed that Duke Glendale was still standing there, lost in his thoughts.

Scion’s icy voice jolted Duke Glendale back to reality. Instinctively, he responded with a sycophantic smile, "I’m setting off right away..."

He hurriedly followed Scion, feeling a pang of guilt for lying. But he had no choice, as he was a weak old man, while Scion was the Empire’s admiral, capable of taking down an insectoid with a single blow.

Two hours later...

The three arrived at the gates of the Imperial Nexus after making about nine jumps through the warp machine.

As soon as they disembarked, Arix and Duke Glendale were a mess, though Scion looked merely a bit unwell.

Arix immediately vomited, even expelling bile from her stomach. After throwing up, she felt slight relief but still shuddered at the memory of the warp machine ride. It felt like being tossed around inside a washing machine for two hours.

If it weren’t for her decent psychic power, she would have been in the same dire state as Duke Glendale, who seemed to have nearly thrown up his heart and lungs. Arix glanced at him and silently muttered an amen.

Ordinary people could only handle three jumps at most in a warp machine. Even Arix could only manage eight, but her concern for Cassian pushed her to endure nine.

Duke Glendale, accustomed to frequent travels, managed to stretch his limit to nine jumps too.

After resting for a bit, Duke Glendale managed to summon the energy to contact his butler, instructing him to come to the gate to pick them up.

Ten minutes later, Butler Dawson personally arrived in a luxurious carriage, stopping right in front of them.

"Your Grace, Lady Arix Kering, and Admiral Scion, please board the carriage." Butler Kasem respectfully greeted Arix and Scion as he descended from the carriage. He placed his right hand on his chest as he bowed first to Duke Glendale.

"Thank you," Arix said in her small, soft voice, waving a tiny paw from Scion’s arms.

"It’s my honor, my lady," Butler Kasem replied, his face full of respect and kindness as he looked at her.

Scion, with a cold expression, nodded at Kasem before carrying the little Arix into the carriage.

Duke Glendale quickly followed and instructed, "Straight to the palace."

"Yes, Your Grace," Butler Kasem responded respectfully. He then cracked the whip in the air, urging the horses toward the palace.

Imperial Nexus had a unique look, almost like something from a different world, yet it also felt like ancient Greece.

Lining the streets, you’d find plenty of potion stores, mecha shops, Psychic Ware stores, and material shops.

The real eye-catchers were the fancy restaurants. At the doors of these restaurants, you’d see cat-eared maids and wolf-eared butlers inviting people inside.

Arix felt a strong pull to enter, not for the food, but because those maids and butlers looked more appealing than any dish.

’The people of the Empire sure know how to live it up!’ Arix silently gave them a thumbs-up in his mind.

Their carriage moved quickly, reaching the palace gates in under half an hour.

Since carriages weren’t allowed past the gates, Arix and his companions had to get out. After a quick security check, they were let inside the palace grounds.

As they walked along the palace path, Arix nestled in Scion’s arms, taking in Cassian’s residence.

It was clear this place was made for royalty—grand and luxurious. Every building and feature screamed extravagance but didn’t feel too much.

The gardens were perfectly designed with fountains, pools, sculptures, and nurseries blending seamlessly with the palace.

They walked for what felt like forever before stopping. Arix then realized they had arrived at Cassian’s chambers.

Andor, the royal chamberlain, was waiting outside. He hurried over, bowing respectfully with his hand over his chest, "Your Grace, Admiral Scion, and... this must be Lady Arix Kering."

Duke Glendale and Scion gave short nods in return, while Arix responded enthusiastically, "Yes, I’m Arix. Do you know me?"

"His Highness mentioned a lot about you, my lady," Andor replied with a knowing smile.

Arix was about to say more, but Scion, looking a bit annoyed, carried her inside without another word.

Arix rolled her eyes and stopped. ’So, no talking for the little one? Can’t even chat a bit?’

Arix saw Scion’s expression and decided to keep her thoughts to herself.

Inside Cassian’s chambers, besides Cassian lying unconscious on the bed, there were only two other people in the room—a handsome man in luxurious clothes, the ruler of the Empire, Alpha Leonidas, and a beautiful woman beside him, Cassian’s mother, Alpha Leonidas’ mate, and the Empire’s sole Luna, Amethyst.

"Greetings, Your Majesty," Duke Glendale and Scion placed their hands over their chests and bowed respectfully.

Arix joined in with a cute howl.
