Chapter 858 - 855: What do you want to do with me?

Chapter 858: Chapter 855: What do you want to do with me?

Compared to when he first became a zombie, Lin Tian had more than doubled his combat power. Of course, he noticed Sun Decai’s anxious demeanor, but he couldn’t be bothered to deal with it.

Without the cheating glasses, the outcome for Sun Decai was inevitable; he would undoubtedly score his true results. Whether he would be among the last few would depend on how many answers he could guess correctly.

As time ticked away, Lin Tian quickly reached the last question, the centerpiece of the Chinese exam, the essay topic, on "Time and Life."

Lin Tian pondered deeply before writing the first line: Heaven and earth, are travelers to all things; Time is but a transient guest of a hundred generations; A fleeting life like a dream, how much joy can it hold?

He began his essay using Li Taibai’s words, and his thoughts flowed like a spring, his pen seemed inspired, the dragon-flying phoenix-dancing calligraphy vividly appeared on the exam paper.

The college entrance exam essay’s word count requirement was around eight hundred, slightly below a thousand, which truly tested a student’s writing structure.

If written too tightly, the word count might be insufficient, making the content seem hollow, but if too loose, there’d be excessive tension, preventing clarity of arguments or stories within the limited word count, even leading to a rush ending, appearing disjointed.

However, Lin Tian wrote in the ancient classical format, in these times, using classical Chinese to write essays was akin to being an expert in calligraphy, a rarity enough to astonish the grading teachers.

In previous college exams, there had been classical Chinese essays, nearly all scoring perfect, yet these so-called classical Chinese essays were often half vernacular, half classical. Even so, they managed to amaze the graders.

Lin Tian’s style differed from those semi-vernacular essays; his was purely ancient, exuding a traditional charm between the lines.

Lin Tian had read more ancient books than most teachers, reaching a level of familiarity with classical language akin to native fluency.

But honestly, Lin Tian preferred modern prose, being concise and clear, whereas classical texts required deciphering. He wrote his essay in classical style merely to cater to the graders’ preferences.

If it weren’t for the exam, he wouldn’t bother being so pretentious and ornate; that’s not his straightforward, unrestrained style.

Sensing completion, Lin Tian set down his pen, smoothly concluding the essay. He skimmed over it, the script on the paper, while not perfectly neat, collectively carried a sense of unrestrained charm, meeting the word count requirement.

After checking the paper to ensure nothing was missed, Lin Tian packed his stationery and examination permits, taking his paper and walking towards the podium.

Upon submission, he immediately became the focus of all examinees, each looking at him as if he were a god; the three proctors were the same. According to exam rules, teachers couldn’t invigilate their own school’s students, so the three proctors were from other schools, unfamiliar with Lin Tian.

The main proctor was an elderly man who, from behind the podium, peered through thick lenses at Lin Tian, kindly reminding him: "This student, there’s still forty minutes left until the end time, are you sure about submitting? Even if there are tough questions, take your time, no rush."

The proctor suspected Lin Tian couldn’t answer the questions, choosing to give up, thus kindly reminded him. Who would’ve imagined someone could turn in early during the college exam, especially not for a subject like Chinese, which typically consumes the most time.

Lin Tian smiled slightly: "Thanks for the reminder, but my paper is indeed finished."

"Finished?" The old man doubted, glancing at Lin Tian a few times, then picked up the exam paper, flipping through it.

The more he looked, the more astonished he became, seeing the completed paper. Upon reading the essay, his eyes livened up. When he looked up again, Lin Tian had already left the classroom, showing only a back silhouette.

Lin Tian ignored the proctor’s reaction, already leaving the exam hall. Just as he descended to the first floor, a voice behind called out to him.

"Lin Tian, stop right there."

Lin Tian instantly recognized Sun Decai’s voice, yet he continued forward. His defiance stifled Sun Decai, forcing him to quickly block Lin Tian’s path.

"Yo, isn’t this Sun Decai? Quite swift with your submission, impressive, admire," Lin Tian feigned surprise with a smile.

Sun Decai took several deep breaths, struggling to suppress his anger, saying: "Lin Tian, don’t be hypocritical, nor make sarcastic remarks in front of me, let me ask, is it you who sabotaged my glasses?"

"Glasses? What glasses? I remember you aren’t nearsighted, why would you be wearing glasses?" Lin Tian feigned ignorance.

"Don’t play dumb, these glasses cost me over eighty thousand, they’re the highest-grade glasses, they can’t break for no reason. Of all the people in the testing hall, only you have the capability to sabotage them," Sun Decai said resentfully.

Lin Tian observed the glasses, indeed surprised at their cost. For many families, even a year’s income doesn’t reach eighty thousand, not easily affordable for the average person.

But thinking back, these glasses counter-screening, counter-scouting, go undetected, including answers to the whole exam, seemed worth the price.

For the wealthy second generation, eighty thousand was a mere drop in the bucket; even at one hundred thousand, they could still afford it. To them, a problem solvable by money is not a problem.

"Sun Decai, I don’t even know what kind of glasses you’re talking about, why would I sabotage it? Besides, we’re so far apart, how could I sabotage it?" Lin Tian chuckled.

"You know I’m not nearsighted yet saw me with glasses, given your wit, you would guess what kind they are, dare you say you couldn’t guess?" Sun Decai pressed on relentlessly.

Indifferent, Lin Tian said: "Alright, let’s say I guessed what type they were, but you’re bold to confront me so openly, aren’t you afraid I’ll report you? Remember, the animosity between us is immense."

"With your pride, you would never deign to make petty reports, I understand you well. What you’re saying now is tantamount to admitting you sabotaged them." Sun Decai stated confidently.

"Yes, I did sabotage them, admitting so now, what do you intend to do about it?" Lin Tian replied calmly, admitting his actions without reservation.

Sun Decai’s facial muscles twitched, evidently infuriated yet straining to control his anger, his complexion cycled between red, white, and iron-gray. For the first time, Lin Tian realized how volatile one’s color could be during extreme anger and restraint.

Thinking back, at the moment of betrayal and humiliation himself, perhaps his expression was identical, Lin Tian deeply empathized with that intense rage and helplessness.
