Chapter 367: Chapter 366: Speak Up?
"Jerk, they are all talking about you, do you feel cool?" Xiao Manxuan tilted her head, smiling cheerfully.
Zhang Lingyu overheard this and turned her head, surprised, "Xuanxuan, does the scholarship have anything to do with him?"
"Of course, the origin of this scholarship is also related to a major event that happened before when our school’s student was bullied..." Xiao Manxuan began excitedly, as if she was the protagonist of the story.
The two school beauties huddled in front of Lin Tian, chattering away and occasionally bursting into radiant laughter. Sandwiched between them, Lin Tian could smell the faint fragrance from the girls, in such a scene, who could still focus on reading.
He was thinking about whether or not to playfully smack the girls’ butts. They treated him as if he were invisible, which wasn’t a pleasant feeling either. He hadn’t even stretched out his hand when he was ambushed from behind, something flew and hit him on the head.
Lin Tian merely turned his head slightly and caught the incoming "hidden weapon" with an outstretched hand—it turned out to be a wad of paper, and Fatty Huang was giving him a thumbs up.
He unfolded the paper, which was sloppily written with a few words: Brother Tian, you’re quite the lucky guy.
Looking at Fatty Huang again, who was winking and making faces, Lin Tian really wanted to punch him, but it wasn’t just him—other boys around were also casting envious glances, as if being flanked by two beauties was incredibly enjoyable.
Damn, you guys have no idea how tough it is for me being treated as invisible by the school beauties. It’s really uncomfortable, Lin Tian was very helpless. Everyone thought the two beauties were laughing and talking with him, when actually they were just talking among themselves.
However, the situation quickly changed because Teacher Ru Meng walked in from outside, didn’t greet the whole class, and walked straight towards Lin Tian.
Suddenly, a subtle hint of rose fragrance broke through the smells around him. Lin Tian sniffed, finding the scent somewhat familiar, and turned his head to see Teacher Ru Meng’s beautiful face.
Teacher Ru Meng seemed to have a new hairstyle, her shoulder-length hair slightly wavy, her elegant and neat appearance emitting a charming vibe.
"Teacher Ru Meng, good morning," Lin Tian greeted her respectfully.
Teacher Ru Meng was displeased with his overly familiar form of address, but since they were surrounded by students, arguing with him would only draw more attention. Besides, she had important matters to discuss, so she let it go for the moment.
"Lin Tian, can you come out for a moment? I need to talk to you." Having said this, Teacher Ru Meng turned and walked out, and though it was just a fleeting moment, her beautiful figure still caught the eye of all the boys in the class.
Lin Tian, unsure of what she wanted, had to walk out under the scrutinizing gazes of the two girls and the envious eyes of the boys.
Standing under a large tree, Lin Tian smiled and asked, "What do you need, Teacher Ru Meng?"
"I told you, call me Teacher Liu," Teacher Ru Meng said displeased.
"Alright, Teacher Ru Meng," Lin Tian said with a smile.
Teacher Ru Meng felt a sudden urge to bang her head against a tree, never having dealt with such a challenging student before. But with pressing matters at hand, she reminded herself to only listen to the word "teacher."
"This is the structure list for the English Association. Take a look," Teacher Ru Meng pulled a document from her bag and handed it to Lin Tian.
Lin Tian took it, scanning quickly. His name was at the top of the white paper, President: Lin Tian.
Lin Tian wasn’t surprised about the presidency. He couldn’t decline it, so he would take the role for now, especially with college entrance exams approaching, it wouldn’t be for long.
There were two vice presidents, one named Feng Rouli and the other Shen Xiumei. Judging by their names, they should be girls, but neither was from class three of senior year, and Lin Tian didn’t know them. Perhaps Teacher Ru Meng had recruited them from some other class.
However, he didn’t really mind. It didn’t matter who took the positions, and given Teacher Ru Meng’s judgment, they were likely not a bad choice.
"One of the vice presidents is a first-year student, and the other is a second-year student. This arrangement benefits the development of the association," Teacher Ru Meng explained.
Beneath them there were the Secretariat, the Activities Department, the Public Relations Department, and the External Relations Department, with names Lin Tian didn’t recognize at all. He guessed they were all from the first or second year.
"The Secretariat handles day-to-day affairs; the Activities Department is responsible for planning and organizing events, including social activities and inter-school networking; the Public Relations Department handles publicity; the External Relations Department is responsible for securing sponsorships," Teacher Ru Meng said, pointing at the document briefly.
Lin Tian understood the role of the External Relations Department in securing sponsorships, as the Activities Department’s community service events required funding, which the association could obtain through naming rights and other forms of support from businesses.
"Alright, I get it. Is that it?" Lin Tian asked.
"Of course not, you need to make a speech during the ceremony later," Teacher Ru Meng said with a glare, annoyed at his indifferent attitude but helpless to change it.
"Speech? I really don’t want the limelight. Let one of the vice presidents who is eager go up," Lin Tian declined, wanting nothing to do with it. Giving a speech might even lead to interviews, and that would just bring a whole host of troubles.
"Are you scared of speaking in front of all the students?" Teacher Ru Meng taunted.
"Heh, if you think so, then so be it. There’s still one class before the ceremony, I’m going back to the classroom," Lin Tian said with a laugh, ignoring her provocation, and indeed turned to walk back to the classroom.
Teacher Ru Meng stomped her foot in frustration, as others would jump at the chance to be in the spotlight, but he was pushing it away.
But if Teacher Ru Meng knew about Lin Tian’s experiences, she wouldn’t think so. Compared to his encounters, which were either bizarre or thrilling, giving a speech was child’s play.
"Lin Tian, you must go up and speak," Teacher Ru Meng exclaimed angrily, shouting at Lin Tian’s retreating figure.
Lin Tian didn’t reply but simply waved his hand, neither agreeing nor refusing outright.
"This is infuriating! This is infuriating!" Teacher Ru Meng grumbled like a little girl, clutching her fists, strongly tempted to rush up and give Lin Tian a good punch.
As for her, Lin Tian couldn’t care less. The first class was Chinese, and attending class was more important. Otherwise, if caught by Fang Ming, he’d end up standing in the corridor, which would really be embarrassing.
The Chinese class was the usual routine. Fang Ming explained the revision material and called on Lin Tian several times to answer questions, which annoyed Lin Tian. Why had every teacher set their sights on him? Was it because he didn’t wash his hands before leaving the house today?
But for Lin Tian, Chinese was no pressure; citing evidence and presenting unique viewpoints often left Fang Ming dumbfounded.
Fatty Huang was still muttering, questioning how Brother Tian seemed too sharp for an eighteen-year-old.
The several minutes of Chinese class ended when the bell rang, and Fang Ming announced the end of the class on time. Even with senior year review, she never overshot the class time and covered all the necessary material efficiently.
However, no teacher could hold the class today because the ceremony was about to start. All the students flowed out of the classrooms, heading to the school’s large playground.
