Chapter 234: Chapter 233: Celebrity Treatment
"Guys, just go. I’m not going to take disciples." Despite their eager gazes, Lin Tian still refused. It wasn’t just the lack of martial arts skills, but there simply wasn’t time to teach even if he could. With college entrance exams looming, getting into university was his top priority.
"Master, why won’t you take disciples? We are very sincere in wanting to learn. Please accept us," the students pleaded persistently, still hopeful.
Sincere my foot, Lin Tian didn’t believe them for a second. These young people practiced martial arts purely for show, to strut around coolly. Seeing someone impressive would spur a momentary impulse to learn, but they had no true reverence for the spirit of Martial Arts in their hearts.
Without exposing them, Lin Tian put on an act and used a tried-and-true excuse, "Everyone, I really respect your passion for Martial Arts, but unfortunately, without the consent of the elders in my sect, I cannot impart any skills to outsiders. So I will not take disciples."
"Wow, the master has a sect too, that’s so cool, what sect is it? Are you recruiting now? I want to join!" A female student’s eyes twinkled with admiration for the fictitious sect Lin Tian had made up, completely oblivious to his fabrication.
"Me too, I want to join!" The other students joined in the clamor.
Ugh, why do I feel like I’m making a rod for my own back, Lin Tian thought, his head swelling as he faced the enthusiasm of these young people. He could handle any enemy’s challenge fearlessly, but excessive enthusiasm was what Lin Tian dreaded most. He remembered the last time he had to talk his way out of the Zhonghai City Gambling Stone Festival headline news, and now he was facing similarly eager young people again.
"Everyone, everyone, please quiet down." Lin Tian gestured for silence, and once they calmed down, he said, "I can’t tell you which sect I’m from, it’s a secret. We don’t plan to recruit disciples either, so you should leave."
"Ah, that’s such a shame."
"Then, Master, could you give me an autograph?"
Unable to learn martial arts, they settled for Lin Tian’s autograph instead.
"This..." Lin Tian looked over at Xiao Manxuan and the other two ladies, puzzled by these youngsters’ idol obsession.
Zhang Lingyu gave him a sidelong glance and said coolly, "Deal with the consequences of showing off yourself. Don’t look at us; you handle it."
Not a hint of teamwork, Lin Tian despised her attitude. He then turned to the students and said, "I can sign, but I don’t have a pen or paper, how can I do it?"
After repeatedly turning down their requests to be his disciples, Lin Tian didn’t want to hurt their spirited young hearts too much, so he agreed to sign autographs. However, he didn’t have paper or a pen.
"I have a pen, for you, Master." A girl pulled out a pen-like object from her bag.
But Lin Tian was speechless when he took it—it wasn’t a pen at all but a delicate lipstick. He said helplessly, "Can this even be used as a pen?"
"Sure, when I forget to bring a pen, I also use it to write things down," the girl said, batting her large eyes.
"Well, okay. But I don’t have paper, so where do I sign?" Lin Tian reluctantly accepted using the lipstick as a pen but still had the issue of not having paper.
Now the students truly had no paper. They all looked down, brainstorming solutions. Lin Tian thought he would finally be off the hook from signing—without paper, it wasn’t his fault he couldn’t give them autographs.
However, Lin Tian had underestimated their resourcefulness. A male student suddenly suggested, "Clothes, Master can sign on my shirt!"
His suggestion was met with unanimous approval from the students. The male student was quick to action, pushing to the front of the line. The female students, although frustrated, could only wait their turn.
"Master, I want to sign on the sleeve, so when I throw punches, I can have the Master’s strength with me! Invincible!" A male student said dramatically.
"My turn, I want it on the back, to emulate the ancients with tattooed loyalty pledges. I want to learn martial arts to protect the weak and become a chivalrous hero!" Another student even knew of the devotion to country idiom.
...
The boys were all eager, excited to the point of flushing red when it was their turn, each with their own reason for wanting an autograph. These reasons sounded silly and childish, but Lin Tian did not mock them. This was the simplest dream of a youthful heart, the fervor of youth, the exuberant spirit of adolescence. They were endearing and not to be ridiculed.
But then Lin Tian suddenly considered an issue. If he signed with lipstick, it would wash away with water—what was the point then? When Lin Tian shared this problem with them, the students fell deep in thought. Indeed, clothes, unlike celebrity posters or books, wouldn’t sustain autographs for long.
"I’ll just not wear it and hang it up," suggested one of the boys.
"It’s regrettable not to wear it, but that seems like the only solution," the boys conceded to the idea.
"I know a way for you to both wear it and keep the autograph from fading," Xiao Manxuan suddenly stepped forward with a smile.
"How?" the students asked in unison.
"After you go back, find someone who can embroider, and have them stitch over the autograph. That way, it won’t fade, and you can even pick your favorite color. Doesn’t that sound great?" Xiao Manxuan smiled.
"That’s really a good idea, how did I not think of that?" One of the boys said, scratching his head in frustration.
"Hehe, I can embroider—I’ll do it myself when I get back," a girl said happily.
"Miss, you must be the Master’s girlfriend, you’re so beautiful, even prettier than the stars, and the Master is very handsome too. You two make a perfect match," a girl said with a giggle.
Xiao Manxuan glanced at Lin Tian, her cheeks instantly flushing. Seeing that Lin Tian didn’t deny it publicly, the little girl felt inexplicably thrilled, as if she had just tasted honey.
"Err, alright then, the boys are done, now it’s time for the girls." Having signed for the last male student, Lin Tian said.
Having gotten their autographs, the boys happily ran home, fearful of accidentally smudging their precious signatures and eager to get them embroidered as soon as possible.
"Where do you want it signed?" Lin Tian asked.
The girl who had provided the ’pen’ came forward, shyly saying, "I... I want it signed here."
After speaking, she pointed to her perky chest, her fair face turning red, but she still looked up bravely at Lin Tian. Lin Tian completely misunderstood—she had meant the location over her heart.
"I want it too..." Seeing someone take the lead, the other girls lined up, all unanimously wanting Lin Tian’s name signed over the location of their hearts on their clothes. Each girl might be timid alone, but together they could be bolder than the boys.
Lin Tian was taken aback; modern girls are too bold! He turned his pleading gaze towards Xiao Manxuan and the other beauties, as if to ask if they could sign instead. If he did it, he feared he might lose control and do something inappropriate to these girls. If that happened, his reputation as a master would instantly turn into that of a pervert!
