Chapter 154: Chapter 153 Looking for Someone
"The defect was caused by this reason after all," Lin Tian realized suddenly.
As someone from an era with advanced heavy industry, Lin Tian had no trouble grasping this concept. The basic condition for metal casting was the temperature of the fire. The more special the metal, the harder it was to melt, requiring even higher temperatures.
If the metal couldn’t melt, casting was out of the question. In professional terms, it was a matter of the metal’s melting point.
However, Lin Tian still had questions. He asked, "That still doesn’t clarify the connection between the defective golden sword and my weakness."
"This is where the Swordsmith’s brilliance comes in. If the sword is flawed, the Swordsmith will find other ways to compensate. When my father processed the materials, he had to cut his flesh and drop his blood into the Heaven and Earth Fire to melt it. It gave the sword the power of flames. The Swordsmith utilized this fire attribute to burn the ultimate Yin objects, extracting the Taiyin Essence, allowing the sword to absorb it automatically to compensate for the defects," the female zombie explained, referring to many lost sword-making techniques.
"The ultimate Yin objects? Damn, I’m a zombie, the epitome of Yin objects, and so are vampires—no wonder flames burst out to burn us." Lin Tian felt as though countless grass mud horses were galloping through his mind—the Swordsmith was just too damn bullying. Did he have a grudge against zombies?
"So, this sword is the nemesis of zombies and vampires. The only exception is our lineage of zombies: one reason is that the sword’s material contains my father’s bloodline, giving it a spirit. Another is that our lineage of zombies all have fire attributes, the only zombies not afraid of fire. You’re now a Blue-eyed Zombie and cannot harness the power of fire, so you can’t wield this golden sword either," said the female zombie, her beautiful eyes curving into a smile as she looked at Lin Tian.
What bloodline, what power of fire—all that crap, Lin Tian might be a zombie now, but he still couldn’t comprehend such mysterious stuff.
He only knew one fact: he was shortchanged by a defective sword. Lin Tian curled his lips in discontent and said, "So I was drained by this lousy sword for nothing, what a loss. As a zombie that sucks the blood of others, now I’ve had my day of being drained. All the Taiyin Xuan Qi I cultivated during this time has been for naught."
Lin Tian felt extremely annoyed just thinking about it, his own cultivation had been for the benefit of a sword. The only consolation was that the sword recognized its owner and didn’t completely drain him—well, turn him into a dried-up zombie, to be accurate.
"Hehe, serves you right for messing with things you shouldn’t," the girl chortled, her eyes curving into crescents. Every time she laughed, Lin Tian couldn’t take his eyes off her.
"If you agree to a condition of mine, I can make it up to you," the girl continued to tempt, a hint of slyness in her smile.
"First tell me how you’ll make it up, and what condition I need to agree to. I won’t make a losing deal," Lin Tian, having already been at a loss, didn’t want to lose out again.
"You won’t be tempted until you see the benefits," the girl hinted mysteriously.
She gently opened her rosy lips, revealing two adorable zombie fangs. Seeing this made Lin Tian feel imbalanced—why were her zombie fangs so small and cute while his own were thick and long, requiring considerable effort to close his mouth and keep them hidden? Weren’t the more formidable zombies supposed to have more intimidating teeth?
As he was lost in his confused thoughts, a drop of blood-red liquid floated out from the girl’s mouth, suspending itself in front of Lin Tian.
"What is this?" Lin Tian asked curiously.
"This is my zombie blood, and though it’s only a drop, it can turn an ordinary person into a zombie. I almost never bite people to create zombies, though, because losing too much zombie blood would cause me to regress. You’re the only person I’ve bitten without losing any blood. Not only that, but your Taiyin Xuan Qi even helped me produce golden wings," the girl said with a smile, as if getting the golden wings was quite an accomplishment.
"Hehe, so you gave your ’first time’ to me, and now you’re giving me this zombie blood—that’s like a ’second time’, right? Could this drop of blood help me recover?" Lin Tian joked, yet he was also a bit skeptical.
The girl, clearly not understanding the other meaning of Lin Tian’s reference to ’first time’, nodded honestly and said, "Not only can it help you recover, but it can also initially stimulate your power of fire. In the future, you will be able to ignore damage from ordinary flames. As your abilities strengthen, you’ll gradually master the power of fire. Isn’t there a historical record? When the drought demon appears, it scorches thousands of miles—that’s the application of the power of fire, a unique ability of our lineage."
The beautiful future she described filled Lin Tian with anticipation, yet he also felt that the girl’s explanation was somewhat awkward, as if the drought demon from history was her. However, looking at her, she hadn’t fully recovered her memory and was still a little confused when she spoke.
"You’ve been asleep for five thousand years; how come you seem to know about modern things as if you’ve been awake all this time?" Lin Tian found her more modern-sounding than when they had last met.
"I’ve been studying all along, even went to the archaeological research institute to learn. I could even pass the exams to enter your universities now," the girl boasted as if she had learned a lot.
She knew about modern universities, so it seemed she had learned quite a bit. But when she mentioned going to the archaeological research institute to study, Lin Tian didn’t believe she had done so openly. Important things at the archaeological research institute couldn’t possibly be available for outsiders to study. She must have sneaked in. Perhaps there really was nothing in the world that could stop her.
"Now that you know the benefits, I have only one condition: help me find a person," the girl said, raising a slim and fair finger.
Finding a person didn’t sound too difficult, and Lin Tian was ready to agree when he suddenly thought of a problem.
"Hey, little confused one, are you really mixed up? The person you’re looking for is probably from your era, right? Do you expect me to travel back in time or something?" Lin Tian gave her a speechless look, as even gods couldn’t do that, traverse two different times, how could it work?
"I’m not very clear on it myself, just help me, please," the girl said with big eyes that looked at him with expectation and pity.
Lin Tian could tell right away that she had learned that expression from modern young girls, but the look in those eyes was so powerful that it was hard for anyone to resist. Plus, he really wanted that drop of zombie blood, which had great benefits; it seemed like a good deal.
"Alright, I can help you look, but I can’t promise to find them in a short time. What’s the name of the person you’re looking for? What do you want to do once you’ve found them?" Lin Tian agreed, seeing no harm in it.
"I don’t remember the name, but I remember that person’s aura," she said, touching Lin Tian’s forehead with her finger. He felt a mysterious sensation arise as the girl withdrew her hand and said, "When the person you’re seeking appears before you, you’ll know. After finding them, I’ll kill that person."
Talking about killing someone without any pressure, the girl was indeed a zombie untouched by modern education. And while other memories could be lost, the memory of killing this person remained—is it possible that this person was the one who sealed and put her to sleep?
