Chapter 191: 005: Blood Moon Arrival
Wizard Calendar, Year 10026, December.
The long-awaited thousand-year Blood Moon is about to commence.
On this day, the entire land of the Ancient Ruins seems to spring to life.
The Shadow Tower, Dawn Wizard Academy, Starshine Castle—three leading organizations of the White Wizards forming the White Witch Council; along with the Black Tower leading various Black Wizard organizations constituting the Black Tower Alliance; and even Wandering Wizards and Grey Wizards without affiliations scattered across different regions.
In short, all manners of Wizards living in this Witch Domain are converging en masse, heading toward the entrance of the Blood Moon Battle.
The moment that will determine the fate of the next millennium for this land.
It has finally arrived...
...
On the eastern side of the Dark Forest, high in the sky.
"Boom... Boom!"
The deafening roar of propellers echoes above the clouds, as a fleet of over a dozen massive flying airships pierces through the clouds, soaring toward the distant skies.
Inside the airship, noisy chatter resounds across various corners.
"Damn it, it’s already time to head to the battlefield? I’m not ready at all! Hell, this is bad!"
"Quick, someone check why my magic wand isn’t working! Not a single spell solidified on it is activating—this is supposed to be my trump card!"
"Told you not to buy that junk! Add a bit more Magic Stone and get a mid-level one instead—it’s worth it!"
"Heh heh heh, I heard you can legally keep the Magic Stones in the pockets of dead Black Wizards once you kill them. Legal looting—now that’s hitting the jackpot, isn’t it?"
"When you stare into the Abyss, the Abyss also stares back at you. Black Wizards have the same idea as you do."
On the deck.
Lynch leans against the railing, admiring the scenery around him. Flying airships, these advanced alchemy objects, are truly premium artifacts. Ever since Lynch arrived in the Wizard World, this is his first time aboard one; if not for this Blood Moon War, he wouldn’t even have had the opportunity.
Subaru, Carl, and other familiar companions gather near him, chatting like the other apprentices about the impending war in a chaotic, lively discussion.
"Lynch, you look so relaxed! Aren’t you even a bit nervous?" Subaru asked.
Lynch replied, "We’re already here; what’s there to be nervous about?"
Ten Basic Will Runes, a Great Knight-level Iron Armor Little Treasure, plus a range of modified creatures like Barton and Frankenstein—as far as theory goes, except for Wizards, nothing else poses a threat to his existence.
Even in case of an unforeseeable danger, doesn’t he still have the Teleportation Scroll handed over by Wizard Somda for life-saving in critical moments?
After a pause, he added, "You both shouldn’t overthink it either. Take it easy; didn’t I already go over the rules with you guys? As long as you stick to the rules, your basic safety should be assured."
Regarding his companions, Lynch spared no effort in offering assistance—crafting alchemy objects, modifying creatures, and even helping them draft meticulous tactical plans based on the rules of the war. As long as they aren’t driven by greed, survival shouldn’t be an issue.
...
The airships continued their flight for two weeks, passing through the Dark Forest and reaching its northern border.
Here lies an endless stretch of architectural ruins, none other than the ancient Wizard Civilization of Acadia.
This Wizard Civilization, which existed ten thousand years ago, was said to have achieved unparalleled mastery in magic; flying airships, flying carriages, breadfruit trees capable of automatically producing food—magic infused into every aspect of life, even ordinary humans benefited from the conveniences of magic to some extent.
Back then, Wizards and humans coexisted peacefully—centered around a Wizard Tower, human towns and settlements radiated outward, forming urban clusters resembling Earth’s modernized metropolises but many times larger in scale.
Regrettably, during the Wizard Wars ten thousand years ago, the entire Acadia civilization was annihilated, leaving behind only the desolate remnants we see today—broken bricks, ruins, and crumbling walls.
...
On the southern edge of the ruins, the airship landed on a massive and expansive plaza, and the apprentices began disembarking one after another.
At this moment, the plaza was densely packed with people; a quick glance estimated tens of thousands of individuals, all of whom, judging by their spiritual aura, were Transcendents.
"So many people!"
"These... Are all of them apprentices, like us?"
Everyone was visibly shocked.
After all, individuals gifted with Wizard talents are extremely rare among the masses—one might only appear among thousands, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of ordinary people. Each of them was once one-of-a-kind in their towns.
In their respective organizations, seeing hundreds or thousands of fellow Wizards already felt like a lot; to witness such an immense number was unthinkable...
Lynch stood amidst the crowd, looking around for Avery. Based on prior guesses, her ten years of preparation must have been for this war; if that’s indeed the case, then she should be here today.
"Mr. Lynch!"
As Lynch was deep in thought, a somewhat familiar voice echoed in his ears. He turned around to see a young man in his twenties approaching.
Lynch raised his eyebrows. "Apprentice Griss."
The one who appeared was none other than Apprentice Griss from the Wise Man’s Hut.
However, he wasn’t wearing the Wise Man’s Hut cloak this time; instead, he donned a white cloak with an emblem of a star bathed in morning light on his chest. In this land, only one Wizard Organization uses this emblem.
Dawn Wizard Academy.
Lynch said, "Ah, so you’re from Dawn Wizard Academy!"
Griss chuckled and said, "The Academy’s status is somewhat special—any movement draws attention. Operating in the Ramos Duchy under the Academy’s name might cause unwanted trouble, so I borrowed a different title."
"Still, Wise Man’s Hut was founded by one of our Academy’s apprentices, so it wouldn’t be considered deception on my part, would it?"
How eloquent...
Lynch nodded. "Makes sense."
After a brief pause, he asked, "So, does that mean the Ramos Duchy is now Dawn Wizard Academy’s territory?"
Griss replied, "We’ve already reached agreements with several prominent Wizard Families; most have come to terms with us. The Academy will be taking over that region’s management shortly."
Lynch said, "That seems fair."
This kingdom has endured excessive hardship; any force capable of providing a semblance of order counts as a resolution, in some sense.
Griss continued, "Of course, all of this hinges on the outcome of this battle maintaining some degree of order. If chaos prevails, then all of this will be meaningless. For this, we’ll need your help, Mr. Lynch."
Lynch nodded in agreement, ready to respond.
But just then, an unpleasant, sneering voice interjected:
"Haha!"
"Dawn Wizard Academy is really stooping lower and lower—groveling at the feet of a mere, lowly peasant now, are we?"
