Chapter 188: 002: Ruins, World Species
"Hey, have you heard? We’re about to go to war with the Black Wizards."
"Oh my god! Why? Can’t everyone just live peacefully? Why does there have to be war?"
"What’s so good about peace? I’ve long grown tired of this monotonous life with no room to advance. Now, this war is the perfect chance to make some achievements. They say fighting bravely might even earn you the qualification to enter Netta!"
The news about the thousand-year blood moon had gradually spread over the past few days, and the apprentices of the Tower had heard of the impending war with the Black Wizards. The entire Shadow Land was shrouded in an atmosphere of tension, like a storm brewing.
Some apprentices were anxious and terrified, wracking their brains to find ways to avoid the war. Others were excited and thrilled, eagerly waiting to make achievements in combat and change their fate.
...
Lynch had named his alchemy guard "Iron Armor Little Treasure."
The construction of Iron Armor Little Treasure was almost complete, but there were still a few issues with the magic power circuit wiring. These involved knowledge beyond the Wizard Level, which Lynch hadn’t yet reached. His understanding of such matters was limited.
Thus, he decisively went to the Tower to visit Mentor Somda, hoping they could help resolve the problem.
"Alchemy Guard?"
Upon seeing Iron Armor Little Treasure, Somda’s eyes showed a hint of surprise. This alchemy creation, lost since the Acadica Era, was something they instantly recognized.
Somda asked in astonishment, "You made this?"
Lynch nodded and then recounted how he had obtained Richard’s Magic Power Alchemy Manual in full detail.
The manual contained records of many alchemy creations from the Acadica Era, but the content was primarily for apprentices through Wizards. It could be considered basic knowledge and wasn’t something to be kept secret.
"... According to Richard’s journal, this Magic Power Alchemy Manual was discovered in the Shadow Sea Domain. It seems there’s a ruin there..."
Lynch didn’t hold back on sharing the information from the journal either. Having spent a good amount of time with Wizard Somda, he found their character and attitude toward students reliable and trustworthy. Since that was the case, there was no need to conceal trivial matters.
Of course,
the fact that Lynch had traversed worlds and possessed a special "golden cheat code" was something he had no intention of revealing to anyone, even in the Wizard World. The idea was too outrageous, and sharing it would achieve nothing but invite trouble.
"Shadow Sea Domain? The elemental content there isn’t high; there shouldn’t be any Wizard Organizations in that area," Somda said, puzzled.
Lynch replied, "I found it strange as well."
Somda continued, "What did you say the name of that Wizard Organization was? Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute, right?"
Lynch nodded, "Based on the manual, that’s correct."
"Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute..."
Somda mulled over the name, then snapped their fingers. A thick book materialized with a resounding *thud*. The pages flipped rapidly before stopping at a detailed introduction of a Wizard Organization—the Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute.
Somda studied the book and said, "Ah, I see. This organization is a branch under the ’Odyssey Wheel.’"
Lynch was stunned: "Odyssey Wheel? Do you mean the legendary Five Rings Wizard Domain Odyssey Wheel?"
This was a Wizard Organization that existed during the Acadica Era, regarded as the pioneers of alchemy disciplines throughout the Wizard World. The current alchemy academic framework was primarily established by this organization.
Their most famous achievement was the Floating City. Today, all Floating Cities on the Wizard Continent were built using the Odyssey Wheel’s techniques. It was said the "Sky City," which carried the entirety of their knowledge system, still floated somewhere in the skies.
Somda nodded, "That’s correct. According to the book, this organization was founded by one of the Odyssey Wheel’s Wizards for a specific research project. However, its location should be on the eastern side of the Endless Sea—why would it appear here?"
The Endless Sea lay to the northeast of the Wizard Continent, almost spanning the entire continent from their current location.
"Oh! So that’s how it is. I understand now!"
Somda flipped to another page and showed it to Lynch, saying, "Take a look at this."
On the page appeared an illustration of a massive turtle whose insides had been fully hollowed out and replaced with an array of intricate metallic components.
On the turtle’s shell were land, forests, lakes, and even clusters of buildings.
Lynch exclaimed in shock, "This... is it a World Species?"
World Species were peculiar magic creatures in this world characterized by their immense size—larger than one could imagine.
Some World Species were as big as mountain ranges, others larger than entire forests. It was even rumored that the Wizard Continent itself was a World Species...
With their vast scope and ability to sustain unique ecosystems within themselves, they were aptly named World Species.
Somda nodded, "Indeed."
"According to the records, the Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute was built on the spine of an Island Turtle’s skeleton. They modified the skeleton to enable it to move freely across the endless ocean surface."
"When the war broke out back then, they immediately released a mist to seal off the island. After that, there hasn’t been any documentation about them."
Somda continued, "It’s been ten thousand years—a fully enclosed island with no resource supply. The Wizards inside would likely have had little chance to advance in level. Based on the journal you have, it’s highly probable the inhabitants either left or perished."
"With no one maintaining control, the island likely drifted aimlessly across the sea under its remaining energy, eventually arriving at the Shadow Sea Domain. There, it would have halted permanently after exhausting its energy supply."
Ah, that explained everything.
With this information, the puzzling details all made sense.
Lynch exclaimed in admiration, "Your profound knowledge is truly astounding!"
To deduce the historical context and clearly unravel the chain of events based on minor clues was genuinely impressive.
Somda shook their head, "It’s nothing special; it’s just experience. When you’ve lived through enough years, you’ll gain this kind of insight too."
After a pause, they casually set the thick book down. It floated naturally into Lynch’s hands.
Lynch was taken aback, "This is?"
Somda smiled, "My experience."
"This is a compilation of various materials about the world we live in, including its history, geography, Wizard Organizations—both ancient and current—as well as all the Magic Plants and creatures I’ve documented during my exploration. It’s essentially an encyclopedia."
"I’ve never given you a gift as your mentor, so I’ll give this to you."
Lynch’s mouth hung open in shock.
He couldn’t even describe the value of such a treasure. Calling it priceless wouldn’t do it justice.
The lifetime knowledge of a powerful Wizard...
An encyclopedia encompassing the entire breadth of the Wizard World...
Lynch was at a loss for words.
Taking the book, he bowed deeply to Somda, "I will memorize it entirely."
"Haha!"
Somda laughed, "No need for that. Just read it during your free time. Whenever you’re puzzled about something, you can find the answer within. There’s no need to force yourself to memorize it; spend your time on more valuable pursuits."
Lynch responded, "I will adhere to your guidance, Mentor."
Somda nodded, then added, "As for that island ruin, if you intend to explore it, it’d be best to wait until you’ve advanced as a Wizard."
"Although it was originally created by a First-Ring Wizard, it’s been lost to history for a long time. There’s no telling whether that Wizard advanced their power or what traps they set on the island. Exploring it recklessly would be risky."
Lynch nodded, "I had the same thought."
After listening to Somda’s introduction, Lynch’s curiosity toward the ruin grew stronger. Just imagine—the alchemically modified giant World Species that supported the island... claiming it for himself would be beyond exhilarating!
"If being a Wizard alone isn’t sufficient to ensure safety, hmm... let’s do this..." Somda pondered for a moment before bringing out an item...
