Chapter 187: 001: Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute and Alchemy Guardian
After helping Grant restore his human body, Lynch carefully stored away the parts that had been removed from him.
These weren’t ordinary parts. They were custom-made for Grant’s body using many precious magic materials to create these alchemy parts.
Take those two mechanical arms, for instance—their raw material is the extremely rare Dark Demon Gold, with a market price of nearly a thousand Magic Stones per gram. The life core powering them is a Spiritual Power Gem, a soul-based material similar to the Soul Crystal but hundreds of times more powerful in overall performance.
Other components like Moonlight and the Soul Seal were all made from precious materials as well. Setting aside the value inherent in the knowledge required to craft this complete set of equipment, just the cost of these materials alone amounts to several million Magic Stones.
Alchemy has also been a deeply studied field by Lynch over the years. On a daily basis, he crafts alchemy tools for sale, and based on his current level of expertise, creating an alchemic life form is hardly a challenge anymore.
And using these rare materials to craft a piece of alchemic life, Lynch felt confident its combat capabilities could at least reach the level of a Great Knight.
"A Great Knight..."
Among Lynch’s existing creations, only Barton’s three-dimensional attributes barely reached the level of a Great Knight, though its overall combat strength still had a noticeable gap compared to a genuine Great Knight. After all, a Great Knight theoretically poses a threat even to a Wizard.
Lynch exuded excitement: "Perfect timing to try crafting that thing—an Alchemy Guard!"
Alchemy Guards.
This was a type of alchemic lifeform from the Acadica Era, possessing immense power. During the Wizard Wars that nearly destroyed the entire world back then, these creations shone brilliantly. Unfortunately, their knowledge was lost, and the crafting techniques were almost entirely obliterated during that time.
So how does Lynch know how to craft them?
This is where the booklet he obtained from Richard comes in.
Within the Silver Key Library, Lynch had successfully uncovered the origins of the strange characters in the booklet. It was a cipher used by an Acadica Era Wizard Organization called the "Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute," dedicated to alchemical studies. The characters functioned as a specialized form of internal communication.
The Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute was originally based in the Ancient Ruins region. Though lost to the tides of time, their ruins had been excavated, and some of their teachings preserved, including the cipher.
In the library, Lynch found translations for the cipher and deciphered the booklet. Its content turned out to be methods for crafting various alchemical objects, among which the powerful alchemic lifeform known as the [Alchemy Guard] was detailed.
Lynch had to admit that Richard seemed to be his life’s lucky charm. Defeating Barton, acquiring the Shadow Law, and gaining this alchemical knowledge—everything seemed to be indirectly connected to him.
Could it be that this guy was originally meant to be the destined protagonist, but I accidentally overshadowed him?
Lynch toyed with these thoughts...
...
Actually, Lynch had wanted to create this thing for a long time—his knowledge reserves had been ready for ages.
That booklet was so thoroughly studied that the content had already reached skill mastery—max proficiency.
[Magic Power Alchemy Research Institute’s Alchemy Handbook – Max]
There was only one reason Lynch had been reluctant to act: lack of money.
The materials needed to create an Alchemy Guard were incredibly rare, costing millions of Magic Stones. With his previous assets, he couldn’t even afford to make a single gear, let alone an entire Alchemy Guard.
But now, the parts removed from Grant provided most of the necessary materials. Some only required minor modifications to be usable, and the remaining materials could simply be purchased. This was no issue for Lynch, who now had over a million Magic Stones at his disposal.
First, he visited the Tower’s props shop to buy a batch of materials. Then he went to the task zone and issued a series of materials quests, spending lavishly. Within a few days, all the required materials were assembled.
Without delay, Lynch immersed himself in his work.
Lynch Mansion.
"Clang! Bang! Clang!"
The sound of hammering echoed constantly, while the flames blazed fiercely inside the furnace.
Lynch stood in his laboratory, occasionally waving his Short Magic Wand. As he gestured, the bellows pumped automatically, the hammer flew to the workbench to pound metal, and molten metal flowed seamlessly into molds.
This was [Mage’s Hand] combined with [Object Animating]. Although both were low-level apprentice spells with limited combat power, their utility in daily life and production was remarkable.
"Learning Blacksmith skills in advance truly was a wise decision!"
Watching the busy hammers, saws, and other tools bustling around the room, Lynch felt incredibly fortunate. Had he not mastered Blacksmith skills earlier, he wouldn’t be able to efficiently use magic for crafting now. He’d have had to hire countless followers to complete the work instead—troublesome and risky in terms of security.
But now, a single wave of his wand was enough.
The knowledge reserves were already complete, so crafting proceeded smoothly. In just two weeks, Lynch had manufactured the remaining components and quickly assembled a fully functional Alchemy Guard.
"Finally, it’s done!"
Standing in the laboratory within the mansion, Lynch gazed upon the towering creation.
Standing about eight meters tall, it resembled a mechanical giant—not sleek and futuristic, but an unmistakable steampunk aesthetic. The body was clad in brass-colored metal, covered with rows of rivets. Two long mechanical arms dangled from its sides, and its head featured a single eye that glowed with faint red light.
Although it looked somewhat cumbersome, its strength was undeniably extraordinary.
Attributes: Strength 68, Agility 52, Constitution 66.
Among its three attributes, only Agility was slightly weaker, while Strength and Constitution soared past the terrifying threshold of 60 points. What does that even mean? For context, Lynch himself—an advanced-level knight nearly invincible in the human world—had average attributes barely reaching 20 to 30 points...
With over 60 Strength, tearing down castle walls barehanded would be a mere trifle. Its armor was crafted from materials with exceptionally high Magic Resistance, and its overall Defense Coefficient reached seventy or eighty, virtually rendering it immune to all spells below Wizard Level.
And this didn’t even account for the array of highly offensive weapons Lynch had equipped it with—those were its true terrors...
