Chapter 171: 010: Powerful High-level Apprentice

"Hmm? A battle?" Lynch raised an eyebrow, his gaze swiftly shifting in that direction. He could vaguely see several figures charging forward, seemingly trying to break through.

The distance made it difficult to discern clearly. Lynch quickly retrieved a crystal ball and several thumb-sized metallic insects from his Space Ring—these were surveillance crystals and their corresponding alchemy insects, tools designed specifically for remote intelligence gathering.

"Buzz Buzz~"

The alchemy insects flapped their wings and flew toward the source of the battle. Before long, images and sounds began to appear on the surface of the crystal ball.

A total of four people, two men and two women, all exhibiting High-level Apprentice spiritual power. Their cloaks bore no special insignias to indicate their identities, and their spells seemed chaotic and unrefined—likely Grey Wizards or Wandering Wizards.

"Are they bounty hunters?"

The Wizard World was a chaotic mix of all sorts of individuals. Some wizards made their living by hunting down Black Wizards listed on White Wizard bounty notices, earning Magic Stones in return. Such wizards were often referred to as bounty hunters—and these four seemed to fit that description.

Their conversation confirmed the suspicion.

"Niru, are you certain that Diego from Shadow Swamp is here?" asked a male apprentice with a flame-shaped crest etched on his forehead, addressing a female apprentice beside him.

"One hundred percent sure. I happen to know an apprentice from the Shadow Tower who specializes in gathering intelligence—it was his own words," the female apprentice responded.

"Haha! Sixty thousand Magic Stones! We’re going to strike it rich this time!"

The four cheerfully pushed their way inside, casually casting spells to clear the surrounding Dead Spirits, their leisurely tone more reminiscent of a carefree outing than a tense battle.

To their credit, their confidence wasn’t unfounded—all four were High-level Apprentices with a considerable arsenal of spells at their disposal.

Under their skillful coordination, they quickly carved a breach into the Necromancy Army occupying the plains, rushing through it without hesitation.

"Pathetic!" the apprentice with the flaming crest sneered disdainfully.

Watching from a distance, Lynch couldn’t help but shake his head.

What a group of naive little lambs...

Did they not stop to think? Anyone worth a bounty of sixty thousand Magic Stones set by a Tower couldn’t possibly be so easily vanquished.

Almost immediately after they slipped through the breach, the surrounding Dead Spirits closed in, swiftly sealing off the gap.

Simultaneously, the undead creatures—previously sluggish and seemingly dull—suddenly surged forth, swarming the four with a ferociousness that was nothing short of brutal.

"What’s happening? Did these corpses suddenly go rabid or something?"

The quartet quickly felt the mounting pressure. Before they could formulate a plan, an abrupt warning rang out.

"Yosia, watch your footing!"

The earth beneath them shifted as the dirt split apart, and a rotting zombie abruptly clawed its way out, lunging fiercely at a nearby female apprentice.

The apprentice, preoccupied with battling other Dead Spirits, failed to notice the zombie’s sudden approach and was instantly enveloped in its grasp.

The female apprentice reacted by immediately deploying Defensive Magic, but at the same time, a strange dark aura emanated from the zombie. Its body surged with rapidly intensifying Dark Element, causing it to swell grotesquely in an instant. The next moment—

"Boom!" A deafening explosion echoed.

Putrid flesh scattered across the skies as the Dark Element channeled through the zombie unleashed every ounce of its remaining energy. The Corpse Explosion spell displayed its devastating power in full, tearing a gaping hole in the apprentice’s Defense Barrier.

The breach wasn’t large; she could have patched it up within seconds. And indeed, the apprentice immediately began reactivating her Magic Array.

Unfortunately, the Dead Spirits weren’t about to grant her that opportunity.

The moment the breach appeared, dozens of Dead Spirits swarmed through it relentlessly.

It wasn’t difficult to imagine what happened next—being swarmed by dozens of ravenous Dead Spirits with no Defensive Magic would inevitably lead to a grim outcome.

The sounds of sickening shredding filled the air. Within moments, the female apprentice was torn apart into a mess of bloodied remains, unable to even scream before she was reduced to a mangled corpse.

"Yosia!"

Her companions cried out in horror, too stunned to react.

The battle raged on.

Finally realizing the gravity of the situation, the surviving apprentices decided against advancing further and opted to retreat the way they came.

Yet the Necromancy Army had no intention of allowing them such an exit; it had already sealed the previous gap while launching wave after wave of relentless assaults against the group.

"Damn it, we have to get out of here quickly!"

"These are no ordinary Dead Spirits!"

Before they could find a path to escape, a sharp "whoosh" pierced the air—a Bone Spear launched with breathtaking speed, hurtling straight toward a male apprentice.

His Defensive Magic proved as fragile as paper, easily penetrated by the spear. With a sickening "thud," the Bone Spear impaled the apprentice, sending him flying into the horde of undead.

"Jerry! No!"

His companions tried to rescue him but only managed to recover half of his mangled corpse. These Dead Spirits were far stronger than ordinary ones.

In mere moments, four companions were reduced to two survivors. The remaining apprentices were paralyzed with fear.

The fight dragged on, and the last female apprentice ultimately succumbed, overwhelmed by skeletons that hacked her limb from limb before finally severing her head.

Leaving just one final High-level Apprentice.

"Whoosh!"

Another chilling sound of air slicing echoed; another Bone Spear shot forth directly at the lone survivor.

The apprentice’s Defensive Magic had already been shattered by successive strikes from the undead. If the spear hit him, death was inevitable.

In desperation, he opened his mouth, spitting out a spray of blood that coalesced into a mist. The Bone Spear slowed as if mired in quicksand, immobilized within the mist.

With a sharp incantation from the apprentice’s lips, "Boom!" The blood mist detonated, scattering the Dead Spirits around him.

Taking advantage of the brief opening, the apprentice fled frantically.

Four well-armed High-level Apprentices, yet before even encountering their intended target, three were dead, and one critically wounded!

"Rustle Rustle!"

Only now did the surrounding Dead Spirits disperse, parting to reveal a pathway.

From the opening, a man emerged.

He approached the site of the earlier battle, gathering valuables such as Space Pockets from the corpses.

Then,

his gaze shifted toward Lynch...
