Chapter 96: Shameless Hamon (part 1)
The sisters eventually returned to the Boxton’s mansion. As they traveled inside the carriage, the over talkative Anne was unusually quiet, as she was still a bit worried if Merek made it out alive or not. While Ara was still angry about the men who saw her sister’s body in the bathroom.
As the royal carriage drove inside the Boxton’s mansion. They both stepped out and made towards the entrance, both of them lost in their own thoughts. Not until Henry’s voice came from behind them,
"What’s with the long faces? You two don’t look excited like when you left, did something happen in the palace?" He questioned with his usual stern expression.
Ara glanced at him, it seemed he was coming from the training hall, as his body was covered in sweat.
"Brother Henry!" Anne’s dull spirit lifted at the sight of her brother, "Are you training again?" She asked.
"Of course I am. I have to train more now that the sword trials is coming soon...What’s with that look on both your faces? I don’t like it. Tell me, What did they do to you in the palace?" He directed the question to Ara who stood quietly beside Anne.
The sisters glanced at each other. They hadn’t talked much on their way back. But if Ara told Henry about what happened in the palace. He might go there and do something they all wouldn’t like.
Anne quickly replied, "Brother, we had so much fun there. The food in the palace is so delicious! And brother-in-law, is so nice to sister. He’s so caring towards her, I can’t wait for you to meet him, brother!" She gushed excitedly.
Lines drew on Henry’s fine forehead, "Oh, when did he become your brother-in-law, when they aren’t even married yet?" He asked.
Anne continued, "Well...He told me to call him that. But I bet you will like him for sister when you meet him."
Henry had a doubtful expression on his face at his sister’s words, but Anne resumed, " You should see how he always looks at sister with affection in his eyes!"
He shifted his gaze to Ara. Ara forced a smile as their eyes met, Anne’s words were unexpected, she really had no idea if Hamon even looked at her with the affection her sister was talking about, but all she had to do was play along with her words so Henry wouldn’t suspect.
Henry simply nodded, "Alright, there is no rush, I’ll soon meet with him anyway...You both should go get some rest, I’ll return to my training."
Anne was the first to enter the mansion and Ara turned back to Henry, "Brother, don’t push yourself too much. You should also take some rest."
"Mhm." He hummed.
She gave him a curt nod and followed behind her sister. Jacob, the butler who was standing at the entrance greeted her, "Welcome back, my lady."
"Thank you." She replied and was about to walk past him when he called, "My lady, an invitation arrived this morning for you."
"Oh, who is it from?" She asked, it wasn’t unusual for invitations to come for her so she wasn’t too surprised about it, she saw him hold out a golden envelope. She’d never seen an envelope in such color before. Envelopes were normally plain white, but the one he was holding was designed and looked fancy. She took it from him, "Thank you."
She was suddenly curious to know what kind of invitation was placed in such fancy envelope, as she spent a few seconds scrutinizing the envelope, she opened the golden envelope to confirm who sent it, but was taken by surprise. The invention was marked with the seal of the royal family. Didn’t she just return from the palace?
With a frown she opened the invitation, wondering who invited her to the palace again, "Oh my!" Ara’s mouth fell open in surprise. King Frederick! Hamon’s father?!
The butler noticed her shocked expression and asked, "My lady, what’s wrong?"
"Who delivered the envelope to the mansion?" She questioned.
"It was a man, he wore a servants clothes. But I don’t know which household’s servant he was from...Is something wrong?"
"Nothing..." She said and folded the invitation then placed it back inside the envelope. She couldn’t disclose the identity of the sender without confirming it first.
"I’ll go back to my room."
"Yes, My lady."
Ara composed her expression and made to her room. However, her mind was a whirling storm beneath the surface. She felt like she was becoming entangled with the royal family. But why would the king suddenly want to meet her? And it was a personal invitation at that.
There must be some reasons for him to suddenly summon her out of the blue, could it be he wanted to meet her just like Hamon met with her father? She knew the discussion of the marriage would come up eventually, and she would have to personally meet with the royal family, but she didn’t expect the king to invite her this soon.
Ara opened the door to her room and entered.
_Should I go? No I have to let Hamon know about it._
Whatever the king’s intentions were, she intended to share her thoughts with Hamon on this issue first. Until now, she’d always acted on her own without him, but what she’d went through had taught her to share her thoughts with Hamon so they could solve the issue together.
Ara made towards her window to summon Merek out of habit, but halted when she remembered he was still recovering from his wounds. Summoning him would be useless, he wouldn’t show up.
She walked back to her desk instead, and started to write down a letter to Hamon. She kept the content short for only him to understand in case someone else read it. After she was done, she sealed it up and folded it in an envelope. And immediately sent a servant to deliver it to the crown Prince’s residence.
When she glanced at the invitation sent by the king, she felt a bit restless.
