Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 89: On the search
Chapter 89: On the search
Hamon and Ara arrived at the outer area of the crown Prince’s residence, where Merek was believed to have been seen. Oliver, who had been waiting there quickly approached Hamon and bowed, but as he noticed the short man in armor beside the Prince,
"Your Highness...who is this man by your side?"
Hamon glanced at Ara, who Oliver mistook as a man then back at Oliver, "He’s my new guard, I just appointed him for some outside palace business, so he came back to report to me."
Oliver narrowed his eyes at the new guard, as that was his job to be by the crown Prince’s side, but the new guard has suddenly arrived and taken his place! But he couldn’t say it out loud and only nodded, "Oh, I see..." He answered affirmatively, but his eyes were still glaring at the new guard, not knowing it was His Highness fiancee.
_I will definitely keep my eyes on you, new guy! That’s my position you’re taking away from me._
Ara noticed Oliver glaring at her before he turned away. What was that for? She thought. She then noticed dozens of Hamon’s soldiers approaching. A bulky man was leading them, the group moved quickly to Hamon’s side as the bulky man reported with his tiny voice, which didn’t fit his body.
"We have searched the entire north wings and we found no signs of Merek, Your Highness."
"Did you search the south wings, Den?" Hamon questioned, but the bulky man called Den shook his head, "No, Your Highness."
"Then let’s go and search." Hamon took the command and the others followed behind him, while Oliver walked by his left and Ara on his right, her green eyes gleamed beneath the helmet. It felt like those days when she was still a soldier.
The crown Prince’s residence was quite large, it wasn’t as vast as the queen’s or the King’s residence, but it was still the third largest on the grounds and boasted an impressive size.
Apart from the main building on Hamon’s compound, there were other small and large buildings next to it, such as the training camps, stables, and the servants quarters.
As they searched around, Hamon turned to Oliver who was walking on his left, "Are the queen’s men still in my residence compound?"
"Yes, they are."
"Send some men over there, if they find any of them...kill them all."
Oliver was a bit taken aback, "If we do that, Your Highness. Then armed conflict will be inevitable. The queen won’t let this stand away...how are you going to explain it to her?"
"Do I have to explain myself?"
"What?" Oliver didn’t understand what Hamon was trying to do at all. Hamon then continued in a bored tone, "I want them all dead. If we don’t leave any evidence behind, nobody will be able to report to her that Merek is in our custody at the moment."
"Your Highness, even if they don’t report it, she’ll know that you’ve ordered to kill all her men in your residence. Are you alright with that?" Oliver asked unsure.
A crooked smile drew on Hamon’s lips as he said, "Since when have I ever cared about what the hag thinks? So it doesn’t matter if she knows or not, kill them all. Including that insolent Cale." He then added, "They’ve gotten away with the disrespect too many times, I want it to end tonight."
Despite the violence in his words, Hamon was relaxed as if they were merely taking a night stroll. He then added, "That’s the price they pay for recklessly intruding into my residence. Send the men right away."
"Yes, sir!"
Hamon was more hard-willed than expected, but Ara didn’t speak out against his judgment, as someone who had been on the battlefield numerous times with him. Hamon’s mindset was that of an excellent general. Society might view him as cruel, but Ara knew how he handled things excellently when it came to his enemy. One should never underestimate the enemy, especially on the battlefield.
Oliver turned to the rest of the soldiers following behind, "Who will lead the men to capture the queen’s_"
Ara spoke before he could finish, "I will go there." She volunteered confidently, while making her voice sound as thick as possible. She wanted to bring Merek back safely, but the more she wanted to do things like this, the more Hamon opposed, his brows furrowed as he turned to Oliver who suggested it,
"You go and lead them to the place." He ordered.
"M-me?" Oliver couldn’t hide his surprise as he wasn’t the one who had volunteered to go but the stupid new guard! He glared at the new guard.
Hamon narrowed his eyes at Oliver who was glaring at his future wife, "Don’t make me repeat myself, Oliver."
"My apologies, I’ll leave right away." He hurriedly left but not after he shot a warning glare to the new guy.
When he was completely out of sight, Hamon turned towards Ara, his burning crimson eyes flashing in the dark night, "Why do you always like to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong, soldier?" He asked, "You are not to leave my side at any cost, understand?"
Ara gazed at him and thought he looked like a panther on the prowl, a bloodthirsty predator that kept his prey on edge. She hadn’t forgotten what they’d agreed on before following him here, but she wouldn’t just follow him around and do nothing.
When she didn’t answer, Hamon asked, "I said do you understand?"
"No."
"...?"
"Haven’t I already said I won’t get hurt? And besides it’s a small mission, I’m capable of killing hundreds of soldiers on my own, just like you’ve taught me." She’d be careful as much as possible. However, she was not so weak as to get hurt in such a small mission.
The soldiers who were walking behind Hamon, were taken aback by the short soldier’s words. With how small he looked, how would such tiny soldier have killed hundreds of men?! Those who talked like this soldier, could only be divided into two main categories, either they were really confident in their skills, or were only bluffing!
A proud smile spread across Hamon’s face as if he was in agreement with Ara’s words, "Even so, stay by my side for now, I don’t want you to leave yet." He remarked.
"Yes, Your Highness."
The pair were completely casual in their conversation, but the soldiers behind them were not easily convinced. How could such a tiny soldier be his highness’s favorite man?! They all stared at the pair’s back with inquisitive looks on their faces.
When they arrived at the south wings, they spotted a trail of bloodstains on some branches and started to follow the stains on the ground, but just then a man came running and panting heavily,
"Y-your highness, a knight from the queen’s residence has come to formally ask for your permission to search your residence." The man reported as he tried to catch his breath.
A crooked smile hung over Hamon’s lips, "How stupid, after she had already sent them to infiltrate my residence?"
It was too late to ask for permission, he had already sent his men to capture those who infiltrated his residence, and Oliver was on it. When Hamon didn’t say anything, the man asked,
"Your Highness, what should I say to them?"
