Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 41: Not going to the grand ball

Chapter 41: Not going to the grand ball

As Hamon had said, his words had been replaying in her mind ever since they parted ways that night. Ara felt quite angry with herself for always ending up thinking of him, but she couldn’t help but wonder if they had really met before.

Hamon had promised to answer her questions if they meet again, perhaps she should meet him today, to get all her answers. Ara wanted to meet him as soon as possible so she could get all the disturbing thoughts and questions about him out of her mind, "Is it possible to meet his highness today?" She asked Merek, then watched as he whipped out an envelope from his pocket, then held it out to her.

Ara looked at Merek with puzzlement before she took the envelope from him, she unwrapped then opened it, she saw a ticket to a theater performance inside it. Ara gave Merek a questioning look, he then explained,

"His highness said to give it to you." He said in a none of my business tone.

"Give it to me?" Ara asked unsure, she looked at the ticket again, the time and date on it was this evening. Then she heard Merek said again,

"A carriage will come to pick you up by seven o’clock this evening...His highness said you should be ready by then."

"..."

However, Ara had intended to meet him today, this could be a great opportunity to get her answers from him, but why did he chose to meet at the theater? It was like the Prince had planned to go to the theater even before she came to the south.

The theater was a popular place in their kingdom, where the elites would frequently go to pass time, Ara had attended a few in the past. A ticket cost a lot. The seat were set based on classes, the regular seat would amount to a commoner’s monthly wage. However, many elites went to see the performance even with such ridiculous cost, but it didn’t make sense for Ara to meet the Prince at such a place. What if people saw them together? Hamon was aware of how she wanted to hide their relationship until the ball. She wondered why he chose to meet at the theater.

’What the hell was he thinking when he bought the tickets to meet at a theater?!’

As Ara was lost in her thoughts, Merek who was waiting for her to say something cleared his throat to speak,

"I’ll take my leave then if that’s all, my lady." He turned to leave, but Ara hurried to stop him,

"Ah wait a minute, I called you here to ask if by any chance you know any good dress shops where I could get a dress made immediately here in the south?" Ara asked as she rose from her seat, Merek turned to answer,

"I don’t know anything about women clothing...why don’t you ask someone else." His tone was flat.

"Someone else? Like who?" Ara waited patiently to hear who he would suggest, then she heard him say, "How about you ask his highness."

"How would the crown Prince know about dress shops?"

Hamon was only known for his skills on the battlefield since childhood, and he had only returned to the castle for a short time. He doesn’t seem like the type of person to know anything about women clothing or dress shops either, she had only asked Merek’s because he seemed to know everything. Ara heard Merek’s stony voice,

"You should ask him by yourself when you meet, his highness would tell you himself. That’s all I can say."

Merek had no intentions of explaining anything further, Ara knew she wouldn’t get any help from him, so she simply gave him a nod. It would be better to just ask the Prince then.

"I’ll be on my way." Merek said then walked to her window. She had no reasons to keep him from leaving any longer, before she knew it, Merek disappeared out of the window in an instant. Ara shook her head in disbelief, the Prince and Merek were somehow alike, she was becoming familiar to how they go and come anytime they wanted.

Ara finally let out a long sigh to compose her mind again, but she suddenly heard footsteps running towards her room, the door swung open then came Anne’s voice, "Sister!" As she angrily stepped inside the room.

"What’s wrong, Anne?"

"I heard our dresses disappeared just like that, is that true?"

"..."

Ara had not mentioned the missing dresses to Anne yet, but it seems Anne had finally learned about it from someone.

"Well...Anne, someone took our dresses." Ara briefly explained everything to her sister, but didn’t mention about Claire being responsible for the missing dresses, because she knew Anne wouldn’t take everything lightly when it came to Claire.

"So does that mean we won’t be able to attend the royal grand ball anymore?" Anne asked with a sullen expression.

"Don’t worry, I’ll try my best to find any available dress shop to get readymade dresses." Ara assured her sister as she patted her back.

"But we won’t find good dresses now, because the beautiful ones are already taken. We would be a laughing stock if we wear any ordinary dresses to the royal grand ball." Anne mumbled.

Anne had been excited for the ball for a very long time, because the crown Prince would finally make an appearance for the first time, and they had travelled to the south just to attend the ball, but now to only attend it with some old fashioned dresses? It wouldn’t be good if the Boxton’s show up with ordinary clothing, when the rest of the nobles would be dressed in their finest attire. It would be better to not attend it, than disgrace their family name. Anne thought before she said,

"Sister, it’s alright if we don’t attend it...we can just go around to tour the south....." Anne trailed off then suddenly bursts in tears, practically wailing out loud, "I won’t be able to see the castle or the crown Prince ever!" Exclaimed Anne as she continued to sob dramatically.

"Hush now. Who said we wouldn’t go? I’ll make sure to get us the finest dresses, I promise."

Ara could not give up so easily, not when she would make her fake official meeting with the crown Prince, and not when Anne had been anticipating the grand ball for a long time. It was a situation where the two of them were upset for different reasons.

Anne then said through her sobs, "How do you plan to get us a dress? It wouldn’t be possible before the date..." she trailed off again, then frowned her brows together, "Who the hell did it? The maid couldn’t have done it on her own! Someone must have sent her to take the dresses!" Anne snapped angrily as if she hadn’t been crying a moment ago.

Ara couldn’t help but smile at her sister’s change of tone, she then stroke her hair, "Don’t worry, I’ll find the culprit and deal with them. We’ll somehow get beautiful dresses to attend the grand ball." Ara assured her sister.

Anne wiped away her tears with the back of her hands, "Really! But how?"

At Anne’s question, Ara thought of Hamon, he might be able to help. She hopes so, "I’ll try my best to get the dresses, I promise!" Ara glanced at the clock on the wall, it was still eleven in the morning, and Hamon’s carriage would arrive at seven in the evening, there was still a lot of time left.

*******

The time passed speedily, the sun had already set. Ara started to prepare for the theater. Although, she preferred to dress causally, but tonight Ara wore a golden yellowish gown, that hugged her waist perfectly the neckline and the sleeves were adorned with lace. Although, the gown may not be as extravagant as other nobles daughter, but her beautiful face did the rest of the looks for her. While she let her wavy red hair pour down her shoulders.
