Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 36: Forgotten memories

Chapter 36: Forgotten memories

Ara opened the carriage door and gestured to Hamon to enter, then she followed behind him before closing the carriage door. The guards could not insist on escorting them, they didn’t want to risk to disrespect a soldier from a higher rank.

After a moment of hesitation, the guards soon opened the gate without a word. The carriage then drove out of the mansion. Ara sighed in relief, she turned her gaze to the relaxed Prince, who sat with his eyes closed as if he was having a good time. Ara couldn’t help but ask,

"Are you comfortable?"

"More than ever." He remarked in a nonchalant tone.

The carriage somehow felt cramped with Hamon inside. Was it because of his broad shoulders and long legs? Ara looked away from him to stare outside the carriage window, but the moment she glanced away, she felt Hamon’s gaze on her, she tried to ignore it at first but after some minutes passed she could still feel his gaze on her,

"Do i have something on my face? Why are you looking at me like that?" She mumbled without glancing away from the window.

Hamon’s mouth curved into a mocking smile as he asked, "How did you know I was looking at you?"

"Anybody could tell with the way you’re staring so hard without taking off your eyes." Ara murmured again.

Hamon chuckled, "Really now? It’s because I won’t get to see you soon after tonight, so I want to paint you in my mind, then whenever I miss you I’ll just see the image of you I saved." He stated in his usual nonchalant tone, as if it was a normal thing to do.

Ara’s brows drew together as she turned her gaze to him, she couldn’t help but ask, "You seem to care about me...It’s as if, you’ve known me before this..." She paused for a moment then continued, "Have we met before that night at the battlefield?"

Ara needed to put an end to her burning curiosity, all his actions towards her, didn’t seems like something you would do to someone you didn’t know before. And the way he talks, made her felt like they’d met before. Ara could feel there was something the Prince wasn’t telling her, she wanted to know why he was being this way with her.

She saw Hamon’s smile drop at her question, his face seemed to harden. However, Ara’s curiosity was killing her. She wondered if they really had met before, or if there was some kind of connection between them she couldn’t remember. She heard Hamon say in a low voice,

"You should rack your intelligent brain to answer your own question...I Can see the curiosity in your eyes, but I can’t answer your question..." He trailed off, with a thoughtful expression on his face then continued to say, "I told you before, if you don’t remember, then our meeting before doesn’t exist."

Ara somehow felt confused at his words, did that mean they had met before? But how come she had no memory of it? but at the same time it just might be that they hadn’t really met before, if they had met, she would have remembered him, but she had never seen the Prince in her previous life, not even once. But something else was bothering her,

"Then, why did you suddenly agree to my marriage proposal back then?" She asked with a raised brow. She saw his lips pulled up in a smirk,

"Well...that’s a question for another time, I’ll tell you that once we meet again next time." He remarked.

"When would that be?" She inquired as she turned inpatient, while Hamon smiled at her then moved closer to whisper, "I won’t tell you now, because I want you to only think of me, and look forward to our next meeting. Future wife."

Ara moved to the far edged of the seat, as she glared at him. She tried to suppress her frustration, because her patience was already on a thin thread. Why was he playing with her? And why on earth would she look forward to meeting him when he was already annoying her this much?

She was about to say something, when Hamon suddenly knocked on the carriage to get the coachman’s attention. The carriage immediately drew to a stop.

"Why did we stop?" She asked with her brows knitted together in confusion, because they hadn’t gone that far from the mansion, She heard him say,

"I have to go back to the castle."

Ara’s frown deepened at his words, wasn’t he the one who wanted to go out together with her? They had only exchanged some few words, and he was leaving already?

"You’re leaving already?" Ara asked in a small voice.

Hamon smiled when he heard her question, and her expression looked somehow disappointed, as if she didn’t want him to leave, "Don’t you want me to leave, because you’d miss me when am gone?" He asked with a devious smirk on his face.

Ara hurried to defend, "Of course not! I was only asking, because you brought me out to only leave so soon without answering my questions." Why would she miss him? This Prince sure had a wild imagination!

Hamon smiled at her quick reply, "Oh, I see...but am sure after I leave now you’ll miss me and only think about me. So I’ll have to leave you now. Take care." He remarked as he opened the door to the carriage and stepped out without waiting for Ara’s response, then before he closed the door, he reminded her,

"Don’t forget. Think only of me, future wife." Then he left. Ara sat frozen without even blinking. He left just like that? And why on earth would she think about him? As the carriage started to move again, Ara peeped through the window, but there was no signs of Hamon. What a mysterious man!

Hamon stood there watching as the carriage left, then mumbled, "Why did you forget me, my warrior woman?"

Hamon had tried to not come to meet her until the grand ball, but he couldn’t restrain himself from coming to her, and what shocked him the most was how she kept asking if they had met before. How could she have forgotten him? Maybe she hadn’t remembered yet?

Hamon also hadn’t remembered her at first when they had met in the battlefield, not until he started to have some cloudy memories of their last life time together, but how come he was the only one to remember that? It didn’t look like she remembered anything about him.

Hamon stood on the street staring at the disappearing carriage, until the carriage was completely out of sight did he turn away. His footsteps echoing loudly on the deserted streets in the middle of the night. Hamon turned into a dark alleyway with only the moon as a companion as he walked deep into night, suddenly some shadows appeared in the seemingly empty street, and followed behind him.

He stopped when he heard the footsteps behind him, turning around he saw some men suddenly appearing before him, however he didn’t panic. They were his own men who had been following him in the shadows silently, they all bowed in union, "Your Highness!" He gave them a curt nod as a reply. His right hand soldier Oliver strode towards him to report,

"Queen Merona has noticed your absence, because you’ve been gone for long. She sent her men after you, shall we take care of them?" He asked in a low voice.

"No need. Let them be, I’ll be heading back to the castle. I’ll take care of them myself." Remarked Hamon with no emotion on his face, one wouldn’t believe he had just been the one smiling widely barely minutes ago with Ara. He pulled the veil off his head to reveal his long sliver hair. The moonlight made his hair stand out in the quiet night, and his burning red eyes looked darker than normal. He wrapped the veil around his neck inhaling Ara’s lingering scent on it as he mumbled to himself, "I miss you already, my warrior woman."
