Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 317: Anne’s advice

Chapter 317: Anne’s advice

The days passed by swiftly like the wind itself. Before one knew it, two weeks had gone by.

"My lady, would you like to bring this as well?" Maya asked showing her a small brown box she had picked up from the table at the side.

Eadlin who had been sitting in front of the mirror, blankly staring at her wom reflection jolted minutely, then turned her attention back to Maya, she looked at her still slightly dazed and asked, "What?"

Maya who was used to her recent absentmindedness sighed, "Are you getting the wedding jitters this soon my lady, the main wedding is still in a week after your trip to Eringdalle, so you can relax for now." Maya said. She had noticed Eadlin was spacing out a lot ever since the time she had taken the decision to have the wedding take place at Eringdalle. The trip was already set for tomorrow and Eadlin would be leaving Findara for good after that.

Eadlin managed to give Maya a small smile acknowledging her words, but deep inside, it wasn’t the wedding jitters that plagued her mind.

"Would you like to take this with you my lady?" Maya asked again, holding the small box to show Eadlin.

This time, Eadlin was paying attention enough to have heard her question, Eadlin gazed at the box for a few seconds before extending her hands to take it from Maya.

She looked down at the box for a while, her mind going back to recall how she got it.

It was exact same chocolate box Henry had given her to cheer her up some time back. A bitter smile crossed her lips. In the end, he had always just treated her as a sister, everything he had done for her was just to follow Hamon’s request, of as a way of repaying a favor he thought he owed her, he had never really cared or felt any sort of concern for her at all.

Maya who was still packing up Eadlin’s belongings for the trip stopped to look at her seeing she was still staring at the box, "My lady, is that box of some importance?" Maya asked, "If it is, I better pack it below all the luggage, to avoid it getting damaged through the journey."

Eadlin still didn’t reply for some time, but when she finally did, she said, "No, it is of no importance, there is no need to pack it among the luggage." Eadlin said firmly dropping the box aside and willing herself not to look at it anymore.

She hadn’t tasted even a single bite from the chocolate in the box, she had only kept it with her and would keep staring at it, but not anymore, from now on, she had to erase Henry and everything that had to do with him from her mind, her heart, and her memories.

Maya was a bit taken aback, considering she had seen a certain emotion in Eadlin’s eyes which made her assumed the box was extremely precious to her, however since Eadlin said she no longer wanted it, Maya didn’t probe and continued to pack the clothes into the boxes.

Inside the Boxton mansion study room.

"My lord." Froylan walked in, giving Henry a small bow in respect.

Henry who was sitting behind the desk raised his head to give froylan a questioning gaze.

Henry had busied himself tirelessly within the past few weeks. Though his father had recovered, he was still required to get a good amount of rest, which was why he couldn’t immediately pick up all his responsibilities immediately, and since Henry was the only one left, he had to be the one to carry on the weight of the Boxton household and it’s military on his shoulders.

There were faint dark circles around his eyes and Froylan couldn’t help but feel a tinge of sympathy for him, "My lord, you should get some rest, otherwise you might just fall sick." He suggested, before stating what had actually brought him, "A letter just arrived for you from Zari."

Henry was quick to take the letter from his hands, "Alright, you may leave." He dismissed Froylan immediately he took the letter.

Seeing his reaction, Froylan couldn’t help but feel incredibly curious at the contents of the letter, he wondered just what it could be about to be able to make Henry so excited. But nevertheless, he couldn’t ask, but obediently excused himself out of the room.

Henry tore the envelope pulling out the letter itself, a small smile appeared on his handsomely exhausted face when he read the familiar hand writing along with the name of his sister whom he’d missed so much; Anne.

The letter reads: [Dear brother Henry,

’Wow! I can’t believe this, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read your letter and I still can’t believe it now!]

Henry could tell the overly dramatic incredulous look that would be in her eyes had she been right before him, he could almost see it. And for some reason, he felt like she would be laughing at him while reading the letter he had sent her two weeks ago, he had sent a letter asking for her opinion regarding a matter and had been patiently waiting for her reply, she had finally deemed it fit to give him an answer after two weeks.

’With how coldly you’re always acting, of course it would be understandable you don’t know what you’re afflicted with, my poor brother, let me give you an accurate diagnosis, you my dear brother are inflicted by a terribly incurable illness that lasts a lifetime...’

Henry frowned subtly as he read that part, what illness was she talking about?

He continued to read,

[... Though it is incurable, it can be suppressed if given its rightful antidote. You might have noticed these symptoms, Increased heart rate, blood rushing to your face, constantly thinking of a certain someone non stop, inability to focus of get the certain someone out of your mind, longing, yearning, and of course... Desire. All of these are the clear unmistakable symptoms of the age old love sickness.’

Henry stopped reading abruptly, the frown on his face deepening. His sister was usually playful, he had asked for her opinion, could it be she was just having her fun and playing games with him?

Nevertheless, he kept on reading a second later.

’Hold your horses brother I know your first thought would be that I’m just playing with you, I’m not, and this is serious, this illness can be detrimental if not given the antidote, you will experience severe heartaches, pain, loneliness, a sense of loss, hopelessness, helplessness and deep anguish if you let the illness grow within you, it will corrode your heart with darkness and pain, that everything will lose it’s meaning to you.’

Henry once again stopped reading to wonder since when his sister became an expert in emotions, could it be she had experienced it herself? He recalled a certain time she changed and almost became someone else just because of a man whom the crown prince had kept in their mansion to work as a servant, Anne had gotten really attached to him that it had hurt her badly, at that time, Henry hadn’t understood whatever kind of emotion had made her become that way, but now he found himself feeling deeply sympathetic towards his sister.

He continued to read the letter,

’Now there is just one and only one antidote to this Illness... Her!

’In other words brother Henry, whoever that woman you were referring to in your letter is the only cure to this illness of yours, you my dear brother... Have fallen in love!’

Henry suddenly went stiff in his seat, his expression looking blank. He once again read those words on the letter before finally going on to read the last words Anne had written.

’Congratulations brother! Finally! You’ve finally fallen for someone, please tell me who she is before you go and make your confession of love, and make it romantic, make sure to smile a lot, or you might frighten her with your stone cold face, good luck brother!!]

The letter slowly slipped out of his hold, of all the words he’d read in the letter, none had hit him like a bomb except for those few lines.

’...You my dear brother... Have fallen love!’

He had written a letter to Anne, asking for her opinion, in the letter he’d poured his heart out, something he never used to do before, he knew Anne was more familiar with things related to emotions and feelings which was why he chose to ask her.

Henry stood up from his seat, leaving the small cluster of parchments he was working on to move over to the window, he gazed outside silently, the gentle breeze blowing in against his face.

Love? He thought.

So all those complicated feelings and emotions he had been feeling lately were...

Love?
