Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 312: The woman of his dreams

Chapter 312: The woman of his dreams

Sitting inside the carriage as it rattled on the roads that led to the Boxton mansion, she listened to the ramblings of the little boy Crispin as he continued to chat with her about whatever came to his mind, he told her about Eringdalle, the cultures and how it differed from Findara, and then of course about food, a lot about food.

However at some point, Eadlin began to feel quite awkward, not because of the little boy’s ramblings, but because of the gaze of the man sitting across from her, which she could sense even without looking up at him.

She later did, raising her head to meet Derian’s steady gaze on herself, he smiled subtly when she met his eyes, a smile she awkwardly returned. His gaze travelled downwards to settle on her arms she kept on her knees, the sleeves of her dress was long as usual, however she was surprised to hear him ask,

"I apologise if you mind me asking my lady, but what happened to your right arm?"

Eadlin first glanced down at the arm she had kept hidden in her sleeves which most people didn’t notice until she pulled them up to reveal her disabled arm, slacked and unmoving like a useless attachment to her body.

After getting over the momentary surprise, she smiled faintly to give her usual reply, "I had an accident, and it can’t be fixed."

"And may I ask what makes you certain it can’t be fixed my lady?" He queried calmly.

Eadlin didn’t mind answering his curious questions, so she replied, "I’ve had it checked by countless physicians, no one has been able to do anything about it, so it had become a permanent disability." She gave the reply with an indifferent tone, this was after all a punishment for her mother’s schemes, a punishment that would forever remind her of her evil mother.

"I see, I am very sorry to hear that." He replied subtly, then finally fell silent dropping the topic.

She nodded then turned her gaze outside watching the trees as the carriage moved steadily on the road.

Crispin gave his father a blank look as if to say; ’great, now you’ve ruined her mood.’

However the man only gave him a small smile making the boy almost face palm.

"Lady Eadlin?" Crispin called.

"Hmm?" Eadlin pulled her attention back into the carriage turning towards the little boy.

"Would you like to hear a story? It a folklore from Eringdalle."

"Alright." Eadlin nodded and listened attentively.

The little boy went on to tell story after story, which interested Eadlin enough that she curiously asked questions from time to time.

Well he mostly told her about the folklores that were related to food, one was about an ancient mythical monkey who grew magical abilities to eat a whole forest of bananas.

That particular one made her laugh, the soft sounds inside the carriage ringing like soft twinkling bells to the man who was seating across the pair.

She had gotten too engrossed in the stories the little boy was telling her, this time she didn’t notice the deep gaze on her, as the man sitting across from her didn’t take his eyes off her for a second.

He seemed amused, slightly bewildered even, he couldn’t help but admire the young lady’s demeanor, she was calm, and quiet, beautiful with a soft charm, yet with a seeming innate strength, and the way she talked about her arm, like a fate she had embraced willing to live with for the rest of her life.

Most maidens would wail and feel miserable if a fate such as this befalls on them, especially one as beautiful as her. Her behavior baffled him, at the same time, he felt quite curious.

And... She had even lectured him on how to behave with his son, such words would have irritated him, and he would have treated her the same way he treated most maidens he met, like air. However, she had fascinated him.

Interesting. He mused.

But the most astonishing thing about her that he still couldn’t wrap his head around, was the fact that she actually seemed to like this little brat of his, Crispin.

Derian held back an amused smile seeing how she looked deeply interested in what the little brat had to say. Who would know better than Derian what sort of a trouble maker the little brat was, and he never seemed to like any other woman right from his childhood.

Who had sabotaged every single one of his betrothals in his aim to find a mother for the brat? The brat himself! Derian mused as he watched his son happily chatting away with the lady.

Crispin had been the biggest obstacle in his way of finding another wife, something he wasn’t doing for himself but for the boy to she a mother, but the little thing was so ungrateful.

Derian himself didn’t like his own son sometimes, the boy could be a little nightmare at times, one had to use a tough hand on him to keep him in check, so he found himself wondering just what she seemed to like about the little brat.

He stared at the genuine smile on her face, and unlike all other women who would pretend to actually like his son just to have him marry them, she genuinely just liked the boy, plus she didn’t know of their identity to want to scheme her way into marrying him, in fact she seemed completely indifferent to his presence which amused him even more. Ever since his existence no woman had disregarded his existence or presence before.

He looked at Crispin who was busy acting like a cute bunny in front of her, he internally shook his head, perhaps that was why she seemed to like him so much, even the devil could be found adorable if he disguised himself as a little angel. The little nightmare was actually acting so cute, he almost couldn’t believe this was his own son.

Derian’s thoughts were abruptly halted as the carriage suddenly pulled to a stop. He looked out the window to see that they had arrived at the mansion of the Boxton’s, the said family of general’s that have served Findara for ages and generations in the past.

The coachman came around to open the door, "Thank you very much for sending me home... Lord Derian." She thanked addressing him politely.

Lord Derian? Crispin thought, no one had ever addressed his father that way before! The little boy curiously looked at his father waiting to see if he would explode with fury, however to his surprise, his father smiled saying,

"It is no bother my lady, please, have a good night."

Oh sweet bananas! Had his father gone nuts in a night? why was this devil acting so polite? Crispin gaped at the man before narrowing his eyes in suspicion.

Eadlin smiled faintly, taking the Coachman’s hand she stepped down from the carriage, then did a small polite bow to Derian before turning to Crispin.

"Hey, don’t run away from home again ok, you might get lost, there are a lot of bad people on the streets." She said lightly pinching his cute cheeks.

The little boy seemed momentarily distracted glaring at his father, but he quickly smiled turning to Eadlin, "If you promise to visit me, then I won’t run away again." He said cutely.

Eadlin had found out from the boy that they lived at the major dwellings in the southern part of Findara city where there were several buildings for rent to strangers who were at Findara temporarily for trade purposes.

Eadlin couldn’t resist the child’s cuteness, so she agreed, "Alright, I will visit you sometime."

He beamed happily, "Have a good night lady Eadlin."

"You too." She said waving at them.

The coachman got on and the carriage moved away from the Boxton mansion heading back to the city.

Eadlin watched the carriage leave before turning around to head into the Boxton mansion that looked silent.

Inside the moving carriage. Crispin silently glared at his father for almost a full minute, but the man returned it with a steady calm gaze.

"Don’t you even think about it father!" Crispin said boldly.

"How would you like I make her your mother?" Derian asked straightforwardly knowing that was exactly what the child seemed to not want to hear.

"No! I don’t want her to be my mother!" He quickly rejected.

"Why not? Unlike all the other women, you like this one don’t you?"

"Yes, I like her as the woman of my dreams not my mother!"

Derian couldn’t help laughing at his son’s words, "What?"

"It’s none of your business, I just need to eat a lot more so I can grown up faster, then I can marry her myself in the future."

This time Derian laughed heartily throwing his head back.

After he was done laughing under the little boy’s displeased glare, his laughter finally seized as he said, "Do you know what will happen if you eat too much? You won’t grow up faster, instead you’ll grow terribly fat, and ugly she wouldn’t even want to look at you."

Crispin scoffed, "What do you know? Lady Eadlin likes me, she won’t mind if I grow fat, she will love me for who I am." The small voice saying these words sounded really comical.

"Are you sure about that? All ladies loathe chubby men, besides, you’d eventually grow up but she won’t get any younger, do you think she’d be waiting for you till then?" He raised an amused brows at his little brat.

Crispin once again scoffed, however in his eyes, it was evident he was realizing the impossibility of his adorable daydreams.

"But, if you let me marry her instead, she will be your mother, and you wouldn’t have lost her to someone else." Derian calmly bargained with the little boy.

Crispin seemed to be in thought, though he disliked this annoying father of his and his smugness, the mean old devil was right. A lady wouldn’t wait for a little boy like him to become a man, she would probably find someone else before he’d reach the age of youth, however, letting his father marry her, at least that way she would have become his mother instead of him losing her.

"Fine, I’ll agree to let you marry her, but you must promise to pamper her and take care of her otherwise..." Crispin reluctantly gave in setting down his conditions.

Derian had a provocative look in his eyes as he asked, "Otherwise what?"

"Otherwise I’ll patiently wait for your old age, then give you a good beating of your life, hmph!"

Derian gave a small chuckle, however he agreed, "Alright, deal."
