Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 283: Can’t let this pass!

Chapter 283: Can’t let this pass!

Cornell’s mood turned ugly when he heard the news that Hamon had rescued his wife before his men could kill her. Not just that, but also the battle in the border was going horribly. And what was more, that stupid nephew of his burned down his entire slayers headquarters! All his men stationed there had been wiped out by Hamon’s soldiers!

THUD!

Cornell angrily slammed his fist on his desk, he had been here waiting to receive Ara’s dead body, but then this news?! "I can’t let this pass!"

Cornell had planned to distract Hamon with his wife’s disappearance while they’d attack Findara, but Hamon was smart enough to find her and also let Richard and his son, Henry lead the army! He had held a grudge against Richard for years now, but the man seemed to be adding up to his debts. Richard had dared to support Fredrick’s ascension to the throne years ago, and now he was supporting Hamon!

Richard Boxton! Cornell would make sure he regretted this!

Cornell’s expression contorted with fury at the failure of his plans.

Knock! knock!

There was an urgent knock on the door followed by one of his men’s voice, "My Lord, it’s about king Evan!"

Cornell called,"Come in and report." With his permission given, the man entered the room and spoke, "My Lord, king Evan sent a message after receiving the news about the state of the war at the battlefield. He said he’s beginning to lose morale about this battle since his soldiers are being defeated. And also, he will set a deadline, if you don’t lead the Dumbarton troops to success by then...He would send orders to withdraw his men from the battle."

"Hah, wasn’t he the one who confidently agreed to let me take control of the army, and now he’s already got his tail tucked between his legs!" He bellowed in slight disbelief. Nevertheless, the Dumbarton’s sudden loss of nerve was a great blow to his rebellion, and he could not let them pull out of the campaign.

The withdrawal of Dumbarton troops would leave him vulnerable to utter defeat!

"Right now, there is no single kingdom that can challenge Findara, if we miss this opportunity you can tell him that Dumbarton will never be able to overthrow Findara forever!"

"Yes, my lord."

"I will go to the battlefield myself, have my remaining men follow me, and leave the minimum number of troops in my territory." He instructed the man, who bowed immediately, "Understood!"

At the moment, Dumbarton soldiers were fighting hard at the borders, but earlier Cornell had sent Landow’s troops as well to assist them. He was certain that that his presence would definitely lead the army to success. But before that...

’I simply just can’t let them leave Landow.’

Cornell’s face was set in determination as he strode outside his manor, and right outside the dark night were his hundreds of troops, and soon there would be thousands of troops ready to move to the battlefield with him. He confidently walked ahead of them murmuring to himself in a low voice,

"I will surely get my hands on one of them!"

He may have lost Ara, but she was still within Landow at the moment, since Findara’s border would be chocked with war, they wouldn’t be able to pass without going through his own troops. In addition, they would be heading the same way, and he did not intend to let her slip away again. Her father had wronged him and also her husband, she would be the one to pay the price first. Besides, she was trouble, he had never expected her to know how to fight to the extent of taking down his well trained men.

Nevertheless, he was determined to kill her with his own hands. Above all, he would not allow Hamon return to Findara with his wife, if he ever got to take her back...it would be her cold dead corpse!

--

While Cornell was making his plans in his manor, meanwhile at some inn within the kingdom of Landow, Hamon hovered closely behind a physician who was checking on Ara on the bed. She had fallen unconscious right after he saved her from those men who’d almost succeeded in killing her. The thought of it alone made his blood boil in his veins.

Had he been just a minute late, his wife would have been dead! Ara must have gone through a lot in that dungeon for her to look this way. She had wounds all over her body, she had lost an unbelievable amount of weight.

Hamon clenched his fist tightly to press down his rising rage. Earlier at the abandoned building when Ara fell unconscious in his arms, his rage had consumed him entirely that he had even set the building on fire before bringing her here immediately. However, he wasn’t done, he would see to it that Cornell regretted ever laying his hands on his wife!

Hamon walked closer to the physician, "What is taking you so long in treating my wife? What is her condition?" He asked calmly trying his best not to pour his irritation at the old physician as he knew the old man was trying his best to treat her wounds.

The old physician replied while he treated the wound on her ankle now, "Her pregnancy_"

"I did not ask you about the child, but my wife. How is she? Why isn’t she waking up yet?" He cut the physician off, he was more worried about Ara than the child for now. His wife’s condition was the most important thing to him before his child.

The physician was taken aback, but then quickly recovered from it and replied as he could sense the irritation in this young man’s voice and behavior, "Her condition is stable and there is nothing to worry about. She passed out due to starvation and lack of nutrients in her body. And also, the wound on her ankle would have gotten infected if It hadn’t been treated immediately, but apart from that, she will be alright."

Hamon sighed in relief after hearing she would be alright. But still he wouldn’t be at ease until she had opened her eyes. He strode towards the bed, and carefully sat down on the edge, he gazed at her pale face for awhile, before he carefully ran his fingers on the bandage around her head, then to her cheek. Everytime he saw the wounds on her, a fresh swell of rage arose in him. His warrior woman had been tortured to the extent she couldn’t fight back, he knew if she was in her best condition, she would have easily brought down those men. She wasn’t the type to sit still and wait for someone to save her, and instead would fight on her own, but now...

If he knew she would be kidnapped, he wouldn’t have gone to Bredon. He had promised to keep her safe from Cornell, but he failed to do so. She had gone through a lot in their previous life, and he had given her his words to be her protector in this lifetime, but yet he failed.

"...I am sorry, Ara. I wasn’t there in time. I am sorry..." He murmured then leaned down to place a lingering kiss on her forehead.

Hamon turned towards the physician and finally asked, "How is...the baby?" He’d heard that Ara had been so happy to learn about her pregnancy, and if anything happened to their unborn child, it would surely affect her if she learned about it. Thus, he had to also make sure that their child was safe no matter what.

The physician pressed down a smile at Hamon’s question. Wasn’t he the one who didn’t want to hear about the baby’s condition earlier? And now he was asking? youngsters of this generation were really something else when they were in love. The old man mused. Before he answered with a serious expression,

"There is nothing wrong with her pregnancy, but for a pregnant woman, she has to pay more attention to herself, and if this continues like this...She might lose the babies in her womb, and_"

"The babies?" He asked with a slight frown.

The physician nodded, then explained, "Your wife is pregnant with twins, which is why you have to pay extra attention to her. I will recommend some medicines to help..."

The physician’s words blurred out in Hamon’s ears, as all he could think about was the thought of Ara carrying twins. Not just one, they would be having two children at the same time. Was he supposed to be happy or worried about this? He couldn’t quite describe his emotions at the moment. With their current situation, he was worried about Ara...

Hamon did not know of the current situation at the borders, and he couldn’t risk taking her back as they would be passing through the battlefield to reach Findara. With her condition, he could not afford to let her hold a sword not to mention fighting again. She was pregnant with two babies...he had to protect his family at all cost!

Hamon had sent Merek to go and check the state of the war before he’d depart with Ara, but Merek hadn’t yet returned, and for now, he had to take care of Ara before he returned.

Hamon glanced down towards Ara’s stomach, he could see the small visible bump in her abdomen. With his hand shaking slightly, he placed it on the bump, he was being very careful as he feared he would hurt her or the babies if he added even a slight pressure.

Without even realizing it, a tender smile crossed his mouth as he ran his hand in a circular motion around her stomach. ’...I will soon be a father of twins?’ He couldn’t believe it himself.

Just as Hamon was fascinated about the thought of being a father, he heard his wife’s voice call his name softly,

"Hamon..."

Hamon’s heart skipped a beat as he heard her voice, he quickly glanced towards her face, and noticed Ara had woken up and she was looking at him with teary eyes and a faint smile on her lips.

"Ara." Without wasting another second, he carefully pulled her up and into his embrace.
