Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 263: Take another wife

Chapter 263: Take another wife

Two months passed peacefully after Hamon’s coronation day, it went without any problems, however suddenly a week ago bad news came. Cornell who left Findara, had gone around different kingdoms spreading false rumors about Hamon to the kings, saying; the crown Prince had killed the late king and the second Prince just to be crowned king.

Not just that, he also said Hamon was planning to seize their kingdoms by conquering them through war. However, Because many kingdoms knew of Hamon’s nature in the battlefield, most of them believed Cornell and were now preparing to attack Findara first before Hamon invades on them with his army, which was a false rumor only spread by his uncle to bring the new king down.

Furthermore, Cornell was requesting for the kings of other kingdoms to help dethrone Hamon, as he was a tyrant and a monster who didn’t deserve to be crowned. Nevertheless, some of the kingdoms Cornell seeked help from have started to prepare.

Thus, today, a meeting was held in the court room to discuss about the current situation at hand. All the officials and some of the generals gathered in the hall before the king.

"These rumors are growing further than we’ve thought, if we don’t take action, his majesty might be forced to step down if the other kingdoms joined forces." One of the officials said worriedly.

"Yes, I agree with Lord Harvey on this. Lord Cornell’s rumors appeared credible to the others, and the rumors spreading, wouldn’t easily die down."

Hamon was sitting on the throne and was staring wordlessly at the restless officials assembled before him. He had planned to look for his uncle after taking the throne, but Cornell had cleverly spread malicious rumors about him. And now, even though Hamon wanted to kill him so badly, it would be impossible after all this. If he went ahead and killed the man, it would only appear to the other kingdoms that Cornell was right, that Hamon was the one to kill the late king and the second Prince so he could be the only one to succeed the throne.

Currently, Hamon had never felt this helpless before at making decisions. His uncle was trying to wage an all-out war on Findara just to get rid of Hamon even though he was the king now.

Hamon snorted, the man had finally bared out his claws as he had no reasons to hide his ambitions anymore. Hamon already knew that his uncle would surely come after him after killing Cassius, however he hadn’t expected him to do it through this way. Nevertheless, Hamon still had the upper hand at the moment, but then it didn’t make their situation any less difficult.

As Hamon immersed in his thoughts, the constant stream of voices soon snapped him out of his thoughts. He raised his hand, "Silence."

The room suddenly fell silent at once. And Hamon looked down at the officials, "Let’s stop arguing outside the topic. Regardless, what Cornell did would remain unchanged, and that disastrous collapse may happen sooner or later."

The officials seemed alarmed by Hamon’s grim remarks, but he wasn’t finished yet, he continued, "The only thing we have to worry about is when and how they’d attack our kingdom. We are already at a disadvantage in this situation, so we have to prepare for the worst case...And after that, Cornell has to be put under trials for his actions."

Hamon intended to clear Cornell’s existence completely. And the main reason wasn’t because of the rumors he was spreading about him, but for only one reason; he didn’t want to leave the name of a man that would bring upon his wife bad memories of the past.

"Right now, we don’t have to discuss on how to clear my name, we need to think of the war coming our way."

One of the officials stepped forward and spoke warily, "Your majesty, if you don’t clear your name first, it will forever be a stain to you and your offsprings. People will continue to speak bad of you for generations to come."

Hamon’s eyebrows furrowed deeply, "So be it, I don’t care what people say about me after am dead, but while am still alive, no one would dare say a crap about me. They can talk as much as they want behind my back."

It was the height of his arrogance, which he showed unknowingly. However, the powerful charisma that emanated from him caused the hall to turn quiet again.

Thomas, who had been silently listening to the proceedings until now, spoke for the first time, "Your majesty, you can easily add to your power by taking a second wife. This is a great opportunity to ally with the kingdom of Bredon, I heard recently that the king is looking for a match for his third daughter."

The officials turned their eyes towards Thomas at his great suggestion, and he continued to speak, "Kingdom of Bredon has great military forces, and by marrying their princess, it would grow our kingdom’s current forces, and this war would be like a piece of cake to us with Bredon on our side."

At this point, almost all the officials began to nod in agreement with Thomas’s words.

"If you take the third princess of Bredon as your second wife, the people’s attention would be on your wedding instead, and the other kingdoms would know we have no intentions for war against them, but if they still want war, after knowing Bredon is on our side, some of them will back out."

When Thomas finished speaking, words of agreement and admiration poured out from the officials. It was a well-conceived plan, and the king marrying the third princess of Bredon would solve several problems at once. Moreover, since there was no successor to Hamon yet even after he’d been married to his current wife for quite awhile now, it would be good he marry a second wife and produce one as soon as possible to make his name stronger.

With this thought running in the officials minds, they began to speak up to back Thomas’s suggestion up.

"Lord Thomas is right, his majesty should take the third princess of Bredon as his second wife."

"Your majesty, we believe you should do as Lord Thomas suggested, it will help our kingdom greatly."

"Yes, Your majesty. Your current wife would certainly not mind this as it is for the good of Findara. Furthermore, as a king, you can marry as many women as you desire."

The officials gave their encouragement, but Hamon’s face was rigid as stone, his red eyes blazed dangerously. Seeing his expression, the officials began to hold their tongues.

A hushed silence fell over the hall as the king’s dark eyes looked around the small crowd before him, "I can see some people are really seeking for death, this isn’t the first time someone has brought this same topic up in the court. And my answer will still remain the same...I want you to listen and listen good..."

His overwhelming bloodthirsty energy filled the room, making the officials swallow nervously.

He continued with a voice as cold as ice, "I have no intentions of having anyone else as my wife besides Arabella."

Everyone’s eyes widened at the king’s declaration, and one of the officials mustered up the courage to speak, "Y-your majesty, What about the next successor, her majesty hasn’t yet..."

Hamon’s frown deepened, "My wife hasn’t yet what? She is my wife, I married her because I love her not because I want her to give me an heir. She’s not an heir breeder."

The officials were shocked at Hamon’s dismissive attitude about a successor. The royal lines of succession was a hereditary one. A king can not continue ruling for long without having a successor. But it seemed their new king doesn’t care about such matters, and did not seem to care whether he died without a successor. It was indeed beyond their imagination.

Hamon continued to speak, "This will be the last time I want to hear such suggestions. As long as l am the king, my only wife would be Arabella. And If anyone should bring this up again...I will serve their heads to the wild wolves regardless of their ranks."

Everyone’s jaw dropped in astonishment, but no one had the courage to refute the king. However, seeing the fear evident in the officials faces, Hamon grinned and spoke with a much lighter voice,

"Lord Thomas’s suggestion is not that bad though. Having Bredon as our allies would help our kingdom greatly, and I don’t have to marry their princess to get their support...I will go to Bredon myself and speak with their king." After saying this, Hamon rose from the throne seat, signaling the end of the meeting. He stepped down a few steps, "You are all dismissed, I have a journey to prepare for." He said then walked out of the throne room, leaving the officials in dismay.
