Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 259: What a waste

Chapter 259: What a waste

Cassius ran towards the edge of the palace, where Cornell was currently residing in. He needed to seek his uncle’s protection. And he was sure Cornell could not refuse to help him as his uncle had been supporting his mother all this while to get rid of Hamon.

His poor mother was now dead, how unfortunate she left the world without bringing him out of this mess. He mused as he increased his pace.

Finally, Cassius arrived at the building Cornell was staying in. Fortunately, the guards at the gates seemed familiar with him and let him pass through the gate. However, when he reached the entrance of the residence, a bulky guard blocked his way with his huge body.

Cassius frowned in displeasure, "What the hell! Move away you asshole. Go and tell my uncle I want to meet him immediately." He ordered like he owned the place.

The bulky guard glared down at him, but then replied flatly, "Wait here, I’ll report your presence."

Cassius raised his nose in the air, no matter what, he was still a Prince and everyone had to obey him. "Hurry up!" He said to the guard who had already left to report his presence.

The guard soon returned and spoke flatly again,"Get inside."

Cassius wanted to fume at the guard in rage for speaking to him like that, but then he had urgent matters to discuss with his uncle. He would report the guard to Cornell instead, and later deal with him. He thought, then brushed passed the bulky man, who towered above him.

Cassius walked inside, and the first thing he saw was Cornell going through some papers on his table. "Uncle! Uncle, I need your help urgently!" He yelled the moment he entered the room.

Cornell frowned in irritation, "Why the heck are you barking like a dog! Speak, What brings you here?" He snapped. Cornell had important things to do, but now this insolent fool was suddenly here to interrupt his business.

Cassius flushed. Never had his uncle snapped at him like this before. But then, how dare he raised his voice at a Prince? Even though Cornell was his elder, Cornell was supposed to show him respect as a Prince! Today a lot of people seemed to be forgetting their place, first it was that guard and now his own uncle!

Cassius’ expression hardened, "Cornell you have no right to talk to me like that! I am here to seek for your help and you will do exactly as I say."

Cornell’s eyes sharply turned towards his nephew, he then burst into laughter, "Ha ha ha! You’ve really grown some wings little boy. Why should I listen to your orders now?"

"Because I am a Prince! And even though I have nothing now, my mother had made a deal with my uncle in Dumbarton...I still have command over the army in Dumbarton!"

Now that got Cornell’s attention. He stared at Cassius with interest shinning in his grey eyes, "What do you mean?"

"The crown Prince killed my mother, and I want you to assist me to reach the rest of the army my uncle promised to send to fight this battle. Only half of them are here, so I need you to_"

"Ha ha ha!" Cornell’s laughter stopped Cassius dead in his tracks. He blinked in confusion, did he say something funny?

Cornell finally stopped laughing and spoke, "Your mother is a foolish woman. She gave quarter of Findara to your uncle in an exchange for his army. Do you think your uncle’s so called army can stand a chance with the crown Prince’s new troops? You are as foolish as your mother."

Cornell wasn’t wrong. Hamon had brought a lot of powerful people to his side now. The Felstead’s army, and even the Boxton’s. Logistically it was impossible to completely take back Findara from Hamon’s hands now that he had conquered the palace.

Cornell clicked his tongue in annoyance, "You are really stupid, Cassius. And serves your mother right that she’s dead. Now that would save me the trouble of killing her myself, and I’d only have you and your brother to kill. But who would have thought you’d foolishly come to me for help?"

"...!"

Cassius sensed something to be wrong with his uncle. He took a few hesitant steps backwards, but then the door suddenly slammed close behind him. He whirled around reflexively and saw Hera, his mother’s right hand lady standing at the door. She looked different, she wore the same clothes as Cornell’s men.

"You...!" Cassius stared at the woman in shock. And she smiled in amusement, "Are you surprised to see me here, Cassius?"

"You betrayed my mother! How dare you, she trusted you!"

"Betrayed? Hah, I have always been working under Lord Cornell, I was never loyal to the queen."

Fear began to creep up Cassius’ spine, but he tried his best not to show his fear. This wasn’t good. He now regretted coming to seek for his uncle’s help, it was the worst choice.

Cornell stood up and slowly began to approach Cassius. He first took his sword from it’s scabbard hanging on the wall. "You know, I have made an oath to kill my brother’s offsprings, and thankfully you brought yourself to me today. And I will so much enjoy killing you."

"U-uncle, What do you mean? Y-you can’t kill me, I am the second Prince, and it’s either me or my brother will be king."

"Either you or your brother? Che, that position is rightfully mine, and I will take it back from Hamon either way."

"...!" Cassius’ eyes flew open in shock. Cornell was also interested in the throne?! He shouldn’t have come here if he knew. It would have even been better if he had just surrendered to Hamon instead. He would have so much preferred the dungeon than be killed by his traitorous uncle.

Cornell smirked seeing the fear evident in Cassius’ face, "I never once liked you anyway, your arrogance and disrespectful behavior have always gotten on my nerves." Cornell approached Cassius, and Cassius began to walk backwards as his eyes looked around in terror, "S-stay away from me with your sword. Even if you kill me, you will never be able to take the throne back from brother Hamon."

Cornell raised an amusing brow, "Brother Hamon? You are now giving him respect, how wonderful! But too bad." Cornell raised his sword up, however Cassius legs gave away beneath him, and he collapsed to the ground as a small pool of liquid began to gather below him, in his fright he’d urinated in his pants.

Cornell frowned at the sight of it. He then clicked his tongue, "Che, I can’t believe they almost made this fool a king."

Cassius immediately sat on his knees, and clasped his hands to plead for his life, "...please, don’t kill me, uncle... Uncle I’m still your nephew, we’re still related by blood... please don’t kill me!" His once arrogant self had devolved into a shivering fool, begging on his knees.

Cornell chuckled in amusement, "Blood? I’m afraid I don’t know the meaning of that, if I was ready enough to kill your father who was my blood brother, Do you think I’d spare you because we’re related?" Cornell sneered adding, "Besides I haven’t even touched you yet, and here you are wetting your pants and begging for your life. Ha, I will enjoy torturing you to death then."

"...I still want to live my life. I will go far away and never return to Findara. Y-you can have the throne, I don’t want anything to do with it." At this moment now, Cassius was already wailing loudly knowing the hopelessness of his fate, his face dripping with snot mingled with tears.

Cornell sneered, "What a waste."

Cassius face flushed in shame. It was true he had no desire of being king at first, it was his mother who talked him into wanting it. She had told him once he becomes king, he would be able to keep many concubines and do as he pleased in the kingdom.

Cornell glanced towards the door and called out his men, "Slayers!"

Hera opened the door and some bulky men rushed in, they bowed, "You called, my Lord."

Cornell pointed at Cassius with his sword, making Cassius flinched in fear, "Take this idiot, put him behind the wagon, I will kill him once we leave this place. And...cut off his tongue, he talks too much rubbish."

"Yes, my Lord!"

Cassius’ face turned as pale as a white sheet at Cornell words. Before he could beg, the bulky men seized his arms and began to drag him away.

"Uncle, you can’t do this to me! I did nothing wrong to you!" Cassius yelled as he was being dragged away.

"Your father did me wrong. And you have to pay the price, all of you! Now take him away!"

"Understood!" The men finally disappeared with Cassius, who was screaming and pleading.

Cornell turned to the rest of his men in the room, and asked, "Is the path clear for us to leave?"

"Yes, my Lord, we have made an opening where we can easily leave the palace without being entangled in the battle outside."

"Good, then we should leave immediately, there’s no reason to stay here anymore."

Cornell had no reason to stay in the palace for now. The winner of this battle was obviously the crown Prince, now he had to face Hamon next since Merona was no more. And to face the demon Prince, he had to prepare for another plan.
