Chapter 255: That person is a...She
Ara and her troops finally made towards the crown Prince’s residence, but they abruptly halted their steps and hid behind some pillars, as they noticed more soldiers marching around the grounds. They had managed to avoid any confrontation with the queen’s men, and arrived here, but it seemed they would have another problem moving forward.
"I can’t believe this! There are still men guarding the premises, how are we going to make it inside with this much soldiers?" One of the soldiers sneered to no one in particular, he couldn’t believe their commander was a female. Such an insult! He had wanted to go with the crown Prince, but he was chosen as one of Ara’s troops instead, thus he had no choice but to follow her command. However, it seemed she’d lead them to their doom!
Ara did not pay heed to the soldier who spoke, and just quietly surveyed the queen’s men. She had thought all the queen’s troops would have gone to the palace entrance to try to stop Hamon and his troops, but it seemed they were smart enough to leave some behind to guard the crown Prince residence’s entrance.
She tucked her hand inside her inner clothes pocket and pulled out a sheet of paper, which Hamon had written for her to deliver it to his soldiers. It was his command, telling them to attack. Their main plan was that Hamon and Henry’s troops would attack from the front to distract the soldiers inside to go outside, while Ara and her small troops would invade the palace and release Hamon’s soldiers, so they could attack from the inside. But now, it seemed impossible with this much men around the grounds.
Ara began to calculate with her eyes.
"What is our next move?" At the soldier’s question, everyone’s eyes turned to Ara, as she was their assigned commander now.
"We can’t keep waiting here, so we move." She said firmly, her voice slightly muffled because of the mask on her face.
"Move? How can we fight against this much men? Look at us, we are no more than sixty here." The soldier who seemed to have a problem with a female being their commander scorned.
Ara turned her gaze to the soldier, "I am in charge here, so you do as I say. If I say move, you move. And if you don’t know to shut that hole on your face and follow my command...You’ll face the consequences of your disrespect." She warned calmly but firmly.
The soldier immediately bowed his head, "My apologies, commander." He apologized, however deep down he still felt humiliated of being command by a mere female. But he couldn’t forget she wasn’t just any woman, but the crown Prince’s wife and also the crown Princess, he had to show her respect.
Ara turned to the rest of her troops and continued, "We will need to distract the soldiers somehow, so we can release the crown Prince’s men."
The soldiers were taken aback. Her suggestion was the quickest method, but the most dangerous as well. If they failed to distract the enemy or take too long to open the gates would lead to their death. However, none of them could protest, as they knew how important it was to release the crown Prince’s soldiers.
"Aye, commander. Half of our troops should distract the soldiers, while the rest of us break through the gate." Suggested one of the soldiers.
"No, we won’t do it that way." Ara said, and immediately all eyes turned to her again, "All of you should distract the soldiers while I break through the gate alone, it would be easier."
"But even if we distract the soldiers around the premises, those ten men at the entrance wouldn’t leave the gate unguarded."
"I can handle them by myself. They are just ten men, no big deal." She remarked confidently.
"But we can’t let you fight them alone, if something should happen to you, your highness...The crown Prince and Lord Henry will kill_"
"Say no more, soldier. I can handle this myself. Now go, and make sure not to let the rest come after me." She commander firmly.
"...!" Some of the soldiers were stunned by Ara’s confidence, while some scoffed internally. She was just a woman, and was just bluffing. How could she take down ten men? Well, if anything happened to her, it wasn’t their fault, she had insisted on going alone.
Ara could tell her troops were not pleased with her. Some of the soldiers were general Thomas’s men, and had only joined her team on his command. Just a few were from the Boxton’s. She tried not to pay any heed to their judging eyes and spoke, "Now move."
With her command, the soldiers realized she wasn’t just bluffing, but really wanted to fight the ten well trained and fully armed men on her own. Therefore, they simply bowed together, "Aye!" They answered simultaneously, and immediately disappeared into the shadows. If anyone else had happened to glimpse them, they might have mistaken them for ghosts.
As Ara’s troops dispersed, she waited for their signal, soon the soldiers were in action, and almost all the queen’s men marching around the premises, got distracted trying to stop her troops from moving forward. The battle began, and the night was drowned in sounds of swords clashing against each other, and screams in the air.
Ara pulled out her sword and walked straight towards the gate, "An intruder!" As she closed in on the gates, the men stationed at the gate rushed forward to intercept her from moving any further.
"Kill him!" One of the ten soldiers ordered the rest, and immediately they rushed to her with their swords.
Ara swiftly flipped in the air as she swung her sword, when she landed, her blade pierced through a soldier’s chest. Another attack came at her, she somersaulted to avoid the sword, she then smashed her foot onto her attacker’s neck, making the soldier collapse to the ground, not giving him a chance to recover, her sword slit his throat.
Ara moved effortlessly, and soon it was only remaining two men all the others lay dead in a pool of their own blood most not even realizing how they died as she moved swiftly claiming their lives like a grim reaper. With a flip she killed the remaining two at the same time. And all ten highly skilled men specially stationed at the crown Prince’s residence gates lay dead before her feet, red blood dripped from the edge of her sword. Anyone who saw how she fought and that last move, would have dropped their jaws at the sight.
Nevertheless, such was the state of the people watching from atop the parapet walls. Hamon’s soldiers were completely stunned at the man’s skills, however that wasn’t the only thing that caught their eyes. Why does it seem like that man fought like the crown Prince? His moves and the last flip of killing two at the same time...
"Sir Oliver, is it just me or does that man’s moves seem familiar..." The person sitting next to Oliver on the fence remarked in wonderment.
Oliver and Merek exchanged looks, even though they were masters of combat amongst Hamon’s men, they’d never been able to master those moves, which only the crown Prince does. They stared back at the mysterious man again.
"That couldn’t be the crown Prince...he is much taller than that. Who is that person?"
Ara, who was about to head towards the gates, suddenly felt people’s presence on the parapet walls. With a small frown, she glanced upwards, and saw it was Hamon’s men. They were all looking down at her.
Merek was standing on the fence, while Oliver and the rest were sitting down on the walls. However, they were far away from her and she couldn’t hear what they were saying clearly. Ara quickly pulled off her mask without hesitation, and her red hair and milky white face came into view.
For a moment, the world plunged into silence as none of them moved, but the soldiers soon recovered, "I think that person is a...She."
Merek narrowed his eyes at the person, and immediately recognized who it was. He turned towards the rest of the soldiers, "It’s her highness! Break down the gates!"
Not wasting time, the soldiers sitting on the parapet walls began to jump down at once, they rushed towards the gates. Ara couldn’t help but smile faintly, well she wouldn’t even need to show them Hamon’s letter, as surely his men would follow her command after knowing it was her.
