Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 213: Can’t wear the armour

Chapter 213: Can’t wear the armour

In the changing room, where Henry supposed to be changing into his armour for the final fight along with the short soldier. The finals would start soon and he wanted to prepare in advance before the announcement, so he’d dragged the soldier with him even though the short stuff had insisted on waiting until the announcements before he’d change into the final armour.

Eadlin anxiously stood at the entrance, she had wanted Henry to be distanced with the rest of the team members so she could have the chance to get rid of his armour somehow before the changing time, but it seemed Henry was a highly focussed man who didn’t waste time and liked to get things done in advance.

How was she going to tell him his armour was poisoned? Would he believe her? What if he asked her how she knew? Hah! This wasn’t how she’d planned it from the beginning.

Henry glanced at the soldier who stood still by the entrance while he was supposed to be changing into his armour. "Aren’t you going to change?" He asked.

Eadlin felt heat rush to her face at his question, "I...I will..." She managed to reply. However, Oblivious to the fact that she was a female, Henry shrugged, and nonchalantly began to take off his clothes in front of her. He took off his shirt revealing his well-built torso. Eadlin couldn’t help but swallow hard as her eyes trailed down his taut muscles. He then began to clean the sweat from his neck down to his torso.

Eadlin stared wide eyed at his movements. Such a man, she mused. However, when he suddenly moved to take off his trouser, she suddenly squealed "Ahh! Oh Lord!" And turned her back to him.

Henry’s movement halted, he then frowned deeply. That was definitely a female squeal, without another word, he strode to Eadlin and turned her to face him before he took off her helmet, taking her by surprise.

His eyes widened as her ebony hair flowed over her shoulders as he removed the helmet. Her velvety eyelashes looked up at him in astonishment. He knew it, the soldier was a female...But Not just any female, but the princess? What the hell was she doing in the competition?

Noticing his expression turned rigid, Eadlin laughed awkwardly as she said, "I...I can explain."

"Shoot it out."

Well, she had to tell him sooner or later before it would be too late. So it would be best to come clean and explain why she was here. She cleared her throat and was about to start talking, when the drums of the finals rang loudly, which meant it was time for the contestants to step out.

"Whatever your explanation is, you can’t participate in the finals. I don’t know how you joined earlier, but you have to go back right now and let me prepare. I will keep this a secret." He said as he gave her back her helmet and was about to open the door to send her out of the changing room.

"Wait, wait. I am not planning to participate in the finals!" She hurriedly exclaimed before he could send her out of the room.

He stopped, "Then why are you here, your highness? You should know, it is inappropriate for a female to be in the same changing room as men not to mention participating in the tournament. I don’t have time to waste, I need to be out there in a few minutes before the second drum."

He didn’t know how she managed it, but he couldn’t care less at the moment when he was supposed to be out in the arena at the first drum, but was wasting his time here. But then, how did the princess know to use a crossbow that good? She didn’t look like someone who’d ever trained with her petite body that seemed like it would break. He had really underestimated her the first time they’d met.

"I know you have to be out there, but If you don’t hear me out now, you might die in that arena, Lord Henry." She remarked more seriously this time.

"What are you trying to say? Are you insinuating that I can’t fight and might be killed?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

That wasn’t what she meant. Eadlin waved her hands, "No, no, that’s not what I meant. You_"

"Enough, your highness. Whatever it is you want to say can wait after the tournament." After saying that he didn’t even bother to continue their conversation and made to his armour hanged in the locker room.

"Lord Henry, You can’t wear that armour!" She exclaimed in desperation, she wouldn’t be able to live with the guilt of knowing her mother had tried to harm someone and she wasn’t able to stop it from happening. No matter what, she wouldn’t allow him wear the armour even if it meant she would get hurt to prevent it from happening.

Eadlin anxiously strode towards him and slammed the locker room’s door shut before Henry could reach for his armour. A disapproving frown crossed his face, "Your Highness, with all due respect, if you’re doing this to prevent me from showing up in the tournament because you want your arrogant cousin to win, please save it. No matter_"

"Shut up!" She snapped at him before even realizing it. Why would she want Kane to win? She had never liked Kane right from the start, because of how arrogant and heartless he was. Here she was trying to help him, but instead he was accusing her of such a thing.

Henry’s lips pressed in a thin line as he stared at her. She then continued, "I didn’t come here to stop you from taking part in the finals, if I had wanted that, I wouldn’t have helped your team earlier and instead would plot to bring you down instead."

She was right, she had helped his team so much in the competition, but then if she wasn’t here for that, then why was she stopping him from getting ready?

"Then why are you here, your highness?"

How was she going to tell him there was something in his armour? She didn’t want to expose her mother. Even though the queen had always treated her differently from the way she treated Cassius, she was still her mother.

"Don’t wear your armour..." She muttered, but Henry scoffed, "You don’t expect me taking part in the finals without my armour, do you? Now if you could please step aside from the locker, your highness?" He asked politely, however he was starting to feel irritated inwardly with how she was making him waste time in the changing room.

When she didn’t seem to want to move from the locker door, "Your Highness, please step aside. You’d do me a huge favor if you could just leave the room so I can prepare,"

"There’s something in your_"

"Please, your highness." He said while he motioned towards the door for her to leave. He couldn’t waste anymore time here with her, whatever her reasons for being here was, he was no longer interested in knowing.

Eadlin frowned. If he wasn’t going to believe her and just wear another armour, then she had to prove it to him, so he wouldn’t keep misunderstanding her intentions of being here.

Instead of leaving the changing room, Eadlin turned and opened the locker door, she took a deep breath before carefully bringing out his armour suit.

"Your Highness_"

"Let me prove it to you that there is really something harmful in your armour. Just a minute." She remarked while turning the armour suit, she also wasn’t sure what exactly was in the suit, but she’d heard her mother telling Hera to put something in it.

Henry crossed his arms against his chest and watched what the princess was up to, his brows were scrunched up in displeasure and the only reason he wasn’t throwing her out of the changing room was mainly because she was royalty.

Eadlin picked up the amour suit, she closed her eyes tightly, then dipped her hand inside it. At first she felt nothing happen, and opened her eyes in surprise. Seconds passed, still no pain. Then what was inside the armour? Did she hear wrong? Her mother had clearly planned to poison his armour and she’d heard them say it, then why was nothing happening now?

She glanced at Henry and saw his displeased look, she then flashed him an awkward smile, "I must be_Ahh!" Suddenly she felt a small sting on her hand that was inside the armour, then came the pain, she quickly pulled her hand out of it with a yelp. The pain rushed up to her upper arm, then it disappeared just like that. However, her arm fell slack as if it wasn’t part of her body, it was slowly becoming paralyzed.

Her eyes widened, "Ahh! My arm." She cried out, she hadn’t really expected it to be something that would paralyze her, she’d thought it would only be something that would itch her badly or just cause unbearable pain, but paralysis had just not been an option in her head, and it was making her feel dizzy as well.

"Your Highness!" Henry swiftly caught her body before she could fall, "Are you alright? Why did you put your hand in it when you knew it was harmful?" He questioned with a deep frown as he sat her on the floor with her back against the locker door.

Eadlin’s eyes swelled with tears,"...I...I was only trying to prove it to you. Do you believe me now?"

"..."

Henry crouched down beside Eadlin and took her slacked hand, he drew up her sleeve to examine it. Lines formed between his brows as he saw some red rash starting to appear on her skin. He gritted his teeth, the fact that his armour was poisoned, only meant someone wanted him gone from the competition more than anything. But who could that be? And the princess...what if he’d ignored her and wore the armour? His entire body would have been paralyzed and covered with this rash.

However, the princess had been injured because she wanted to prove her claim. This could be considered treasonous for letting a princess take what was meant for him...

"Your Highness, who planted this in the armour?" He questioned softly trying to mask the anger stirring up in him.

Da-dum-da-dum!

The sound of the second drum rang out loudly, and they both exchanged looks, "Lord Henry, you have to hurry up or else you’ll miss the finals." She urged him with a slight push on his shoulder, but he didn’t move and remained crouching beside her, "I can’t leave you here in such condition_"

"Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine, but you have to participate and win over my cousin."

Henry frowned, he couldn’t just leave her here in such a state after she’d helped him. And again, he couldn’t drop out of the competition, it would look as if he’d ran away after openly challenging Kane.

Eadlin sensed his hesitation, "Lord Henry, I’ll be fine. My mother’s guards are probably looking for me at the moment, all I have to do is step out of here, and they’ll immediately take me to a physician. You should go and win over that cousin of mine." She smiled and patted his shoulder to urge him.

Henry nodded, she was right, he had to win for a lot of reasons now. He needed to slap the person who wanted to harm him in the face with his victory today. Whoever that person was, he would deal with them later after the tournament. He stood up and made to the cubicle, he wore another amour and stepped out to where the princess was now seating on the bench.

He didn’t know why she was helping him, but he was sure the person who had wanted to harm him was one of his sister’s enemies in the royal family who didn’t want the Boxton’s to rise to power. He gazed at Eadlin for a moment, then bowed, "Thank you, your highness. I shall never forget this favor."
