Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 199: Picking side

Chapter 199: Picking side

"Then if you like me, why not support my husband to get the throne?" She decided to be direct, if his statement was true, the Felstead’s wouldn’t have to remain neutral in such a situation.

At her words, Alex dropped his tea cup and waved his hand, "If I was the grand general already, I could have made such a decision, but right now, I’m still just a major under my father."

Ara offered him a faint smile, she then nodded in acknowledgement. Alex’s words were not wrong, "Indeed, then please if you could convince your father, that would be of a great help to me."

"Hmm, my father is a hard nut to crack. General Thomas prefers to be neutral, however you have my support already." Alex smiled and retrieved something from his inner jacket pocket. In his hand was a golden signet bracelet. He then handed it to her, Ara accepted it with a perplexed expression. She studied it curiously and noticed it had a bold ’AF’ written on it.

"This...?"

"Well, you can take it as a gift from me. It’s not much, but if you show this signet bracelet to any of the Felstead’s military, you can summon me at anytime, or if you need the military’s assistance in the future, the signet can give you free access to them."

It was the signet of Alexander Felstead himself, and with such thing, Ara could use the help of the Felstead’s military at anytime she wanted as long as she showed them his signet. Ara could not hide the surprise in her face as she glanced down at the golden signet in her hand that bore his signature,

"...I wasn’t expecting such a gift...Thank you, Alex." She thanked him, but he waved his hands again, "Oh don’t mention it, since I can’t bring my father to support your husband, this is the least I could do to show my support."

Although Alex and Hamon weren’t close, Ara was grateful to build a close relationship with him. However, What she didn’t understand was his sudden generosity towards her when he didn’t get along with Hamon. Well, she wouldn’t turn his gift away anyway, it would be of great help to them if the battle for the throne begins.

"Thank you again, Alex. I will never forget such a huge favor." She beamed happily.

--

After the meeting with Ara, Alex returned to his carriage parked outside the crown Prince’s residence. Ara had offered to see him off, but he’d refused on the basis of her injuries.

He strode towards the carriage park, stepped inside his brown shinny carriage and sat down causally crossing his leg on the other, "Didn’t you get too bored waiting for me inside the carriage?" He asked with a smirk.

Sitting opposite of Alex was another young man of his age, who wore the military uniform of the Felstead’s. His name was Jackson, and was the vice major, but more like Alex’s friend. Jackson glanced at Alex with a curious eyes, "Why did you really give her your signet?"

"Because I wanted to."

"But you are aware Lord Thomas wouldn’t be happy if he hears about you taking sides in the royal family’s affairs."

"It doesn’t matter."

"Alex..."

Alex looked relaxed despite his friend’s concerned expression. He even leaned back on the carriage seat and closed his eyes, he then murmured, "Have you forgotten I don’t do things without any reasons, Jackson. I know what am doing, so relax man."

Jackson didn’t reply and only sighed inwardly and turned his head to look out the window. Alex had taken a liking towards Ara the moment he set his eyes on her on the day of the grand ball. But after realizing she was taken by his sworn rival on the battlefield, Hamon, he decided to hold back his feelings, knowing it could cause a fight if he revealed it. He was being honest when he told Ara he liked her earlier.

However, even though he’d backed out, he noticed something about the red haired woman; she’d make a good queen. Nevertheless, by giving her his signet, he’d gone against his father’s words.

’The De Biville family were selfish people who understood nothing but their own self preservation, you should never let them sway you into siding with any of them.’ That was his father’s words. But he had decided to pick a side now. He had made his careful calculations, and decided to side with the crown Prince’s team. That was why he’d given Ara his signet, because they would surely need his help in the future.

Cornell, Cassius, and...Hamon.

Everyone of them had taken a bit of a gamble sometimes. Right now, there was no knowing which one of them would take the throne, but if Alex were to bet on one of them, it would be Hamon. He understood why his father did not want to side with any of the royal family. He didn’t want to end up siding with a losing team, which in turn might ruin the Felstead family if the other team should win.

However, Alex found himself gradually drawn to the red haired woman and wanted to be on the same team as her without any sensible reasons. If he knew the Boxton’s had such a beautiful daughter, he would have taken her as his wife before the crown Prince could even get the chance.

Alex smiled at his own thoughts and glanced outside the window, "...A big storm is on its way to Findara..." He murmured to himself. It had been reported to him yesterday that the crown Prince’s wife was struck with arrows, he had begun to gather all his best troops from the battlefield. It was obvious where the crown Prince’s anger was headed. Soon, there might be a huge battle for the throne.

And whoever wins this bloody war...would become the next king of Findara with an unlimited power in his hands.

’The war hasn’t even started yet, May the heavens show mercy on the innocent souls that will be lost soon.’
