Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 193: Forgetting something...
Chapter 193: Forgetting something...
Hamon had been his wife’s magnet, and had taken it upon himself to take care of her until she fully recovered. Not even the maids were allowed inside their chamber to attend to her needs. There was no need for any maid to even attend to her since Hamon had been doing everything; from helping her get in the bath and helping her out afterwards. Although he gave Ara her privacy, and let her bath herself, all he did was to help her into her nightdress.
She had been wearing nightdresses ever since she’d regained consciousness, because it felt more comfortable and loose, it didn’t disturb her wounds. Hamon rarely left their chamber unless he wanted to go check up on something. He did his work in their room, and he’d always take afternoon naps together with Ara to keep her company.
However, since Ara had been staying in bed often, today after he was done feeding Ara her breakfast, Hamon decided to take her out side the room to get some fresh air in his private garden. He carried her in his arms and made to the garden, despite her complaints,
"Hamon, put me down. I can manage to walk by myself now...someone might see you carrying me. Your are a crown Prince for goodness sake, put me down, Please."
Ara’s cheeks were flushed as she cautiously glanced around if there were people outside, but Hamon ignored her protests and cautious demeanor. He nonchalantly replied, "Let them see me carrying my wife, big deal."
"Hamon it’s embarrassing..."
He causally raised a brow, "Embarrassing? Are you shy?" He asked with a grin, "Don’t worry no one would talk bad about a husband carrying his sick wife outside. So relax, my wife."
No one would say anything out, but Ara was sure they would gossip behind their back. Those who worked in the palace were humans after all, and wouldn’t be able to resist a bit of chit chat about the royal private lives.
"But_"
"Worry no more, wife. If anyone says anything offensive about you, Let me know. I’ll make sure to wipe their entire bloodlines from Findara."
He sounded serious without a hint of any joke. Ara gave him a disapproving look, "You can’t gain your servants nor soldiers loyalty if you punish them with death for their slightest mistakes Hamon."
Hamon scoffed softly, "Oh really now?" He asked with his lips tugged up, "That’s not how I operate in my residence, I believe human’s hearts are evil and easy to be swayed by greed, and who knows if they are really loyal? To me, obedience comes before loyalty, wife."
As a son of a mere servant, Hamon had gone through a lot in the palace, mostly in the hands of the people his mother had entrusted him to, her servant friends, but it turned out after she was gone; they were the ones who got paid to poison his meals all the time. And now, he didn’t have the luxury to easily place his trust in people again.
However, all Ara was worried about was his occasional violent nature. She wanted to show him that his bloody ways of handling matters wasn’t the only way to get the outcome he wanted. To be a good ruler, he needed to calm his violent side to make good and wise decisions as a king.
Ara nodded to his earlier words, she then wrapped her arms around his neck as he carried her through the corridors to head outside, "You are right, but then...you have to remember to be nice to your people. That way, you will gain more people to your side, they will support you and stand by your side whenever you need them." She advised as she played with his earlobe, she couldn’t help but think; it feels really soft and smooth to touch.
Hamon smiled at her words and tried his best to ignore her hand roaming around his earlobe tickling him, he asked, "Is my wife worried about me?"
She stopped playing with his ear and put her hand back on his shoulder, "Of course, I worry all the time. In fact, you occupy most of my worries everyday."
"Hmm." He hummed, "I like that, whatever it is that makes you worry about me...I still like the fact that you worry about me." He remarked as he halted at the bench swing in the lush green garden under the shade of a huge apple tree. However, he didn’t keep Ara down and instead sat down on the bench swing, before he adjusted her on his lap.
"Hamon!" She exclaimed in surprise but instead of releasing her, he simply wrapped his arms around her waist and stared at her crimson face as if savoring her features, he then beamed, "You know, I’ve always thought that if you are not going to ever love me someday, then I would make you hate me."
She frowned,"Why?"
He chuckled, "It’s simple, because I wanted your mind to be occupied with just me, no matter what the emotions you felt towards me, at least there was one."
Ara gazed at him in bewilderment, she couldn’t help but think; her husband’s feelings were really different from those of ordinary people, she could not define it in words, but he certainly did not express his affections the way others do. Furthermore, she found it cute, he was even cuter without trying.
A smile spread on her face as she thought of how crazy her husband was, and she liked him that way!
Ara yawned as she stretched a bit, feeling another bout of exhaustion just by being outside, she couldn’t help but think she’d began to feel lazy lately, she then leaned against Hamon’s firm chest as she murmured softly,
"Hmm, now I spend most of my days thinking only about you."
A tender smile graced his lips at her words. They both sat there in silence with his wife leaning against his chest. Her red hair glimmer under the warm morning sunlight. The sun washed the plants with its golden glow, with chipping sparrows invading the entire colorful garden. Gentle breeze blew to their direction, making Ara’s red hair move with the wind trickling Hamon’s neck.
He raised his hand and stroked her hair, he then muttered softly, "And I am falling madly in love with you with each passing day...I think I might go completely crazy if anything happens to you again...wife, if you don’t want me killing, stay by my side until the very end."
Ara could sense the desperation in his words. Ever since she’d regained consciousness, he seemed sick with worry. She noticed he’d been acting more protective towards her than before. Nevertheless, she knew that if she had also been in his position, she’d have been just as frightened and worried as him. She slightly raised her head up from where she leaned on his chest, "I will stay with you until the very end."
Despite the confidence in Ara’s tone, Hamon only smiled ruefully. Only he knew what he’d done to bring her back, and there was no guarantee that she would never get hurt or even worst, when the road ahead of them was still dangerous.
"Wife, I will become king, but it will be up to you to decide what kind of ruler I’ll be."
"...?" She moved back from his chest to give him a questioning look. And he continued, "You are aware how selfish and aggressive I could be sometimes, I am hardly a saint. I could kill anyone at the slightest mistake they commit, so I need you by my side to rule the kingdom right..."
Ara didn’t know what to say, no one had ever told her that they needed her like this before. A warm feeling swelled to her chest, she grinned and cupped Hamon’s cheeks in her slender palms, "It feels wonderful to have someone who can not be without me." She playfully squeezed his cheeks between her palms as she grinned like a small child.
Hamon momentarily frowned as he gripped her wrist as if he couldn’t hold himself back, but his hold immediately loosened. Lines formed between his brows as he suddenly began to examine her in his arms, "Wife, you need to gain more weight, I think the food I’ve been feeding you hasn’t been enough...I feel like I’ll break you if I add more pressure to my hold."
Ara chuckled at his words. Well, it was true she’d lost a lot of weight these past few days, but she wasn’t so fragile that she’d snap by his hand. Surprisingly, his words didn’t make her feel self-conscious but brought warmth to her heart at the thought of his tender treatment for her.
She pinched his right cheek, "Don’t worry, I won’t break, so you are free to hold me as tight as you want." After saying that, she leaned in and pecked the spot she’d pinched.
Hamon drew in a sharp breath before he drew her closer by the waist as he warned with his voice sounding huskier, "Don’t rouse me too much, my wife." His gaze shifted to her bandaged chest and glanced at her again as he spoke in a low voice, "I’ve been finding it hard to restrain myself lately, so don’t push the button too much."
Ara seemed to understood what he meant, as immediately a blush crept up her face. Hamon just silently gazed at her flushed face. This moment alone with her brought a soothing feeling to his heart. Even though they’d both confessed their love for the other, they were yet to Consummate their marriage. However, even though he’d gone through the torture of having his wife close but not touching her, he was willing to wait until the day she was ready to take their relationship to that level. Having her alive by his side was enough for now.
Hamon embraced her quietly, he closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again, he then whispered, "My wife, I think you are forgetting something important."
